Very nice modern smaller hotel w/spacious rooms and bathrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. The staff was terrific and courteous and the elevator was fast compared to some of the boutique hotels we've stayed at in the city. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend there. We have become fans of the Palomar chain since a stay back last March in SF. The Kimpton Palomar was even better. Pros: The staff are excellent, including the front desk and the bellmen. The property is very nice. Shower was great. Bathroom spacious. We appreciated being on the 17th floor right near the fitness facility and pool. We enjoyed the coffee […] available in the lounge. Great location in the Near North neighborhood -- convenient to good restaurants, the Loop, the red line subway, Michigan Avenue shopping, and a Nordstrom-anchored multi-story indoor mall. Cons: Not the biggest room for a family of mom, dad, and two teens (20 & 16) and I regretted not reserving a suite there or at the nearby Hampton Inn/Suites. TV very good but we expected to have access to more channels. Movies rentals were pricey at $12.95 or so. The walls could be a little thicker -- the first night, we could hear the couple in the next room going at it. Perhaps my biggest gripe: The fitness room needs more machines, perhaps needs to be expanded altogether; the place was a competitive mess every morning between 7:30 and 8:30. The valet parking seemed a bit high at $40-something per day but I suppose that's competitive given the area. Read more

This hotel is clean and comfortable and has an outstanding bar/restaurant (Sable). Only negative is the location (a little tucked away in River North). That said, you are simply a cab ride or short walk to better Chicago night life.

Rented 3 rooms for extended family. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms clean. Beds were just OK. Wine hour was a nice touch. However, common area did become very crowded at times. The hotel is both attractive and accomodating in almost every way. The entire staff from the desk, housekeeping, even the individuals who check the minibar are all extremely respectful, considerate and pleasant. My room was very comfortable and clean, the blackout curtains earned their name, their were several tv channels in hi-def, the bathroom, was […] about the same size as an entire typical hotel room in itself, seperate tub and a really nice glass shower, and the counter was quite large and spacious, big mirror, excellent lighting and tile work as well. The bathrobes were comfortable also, and there was also a yoga mat provided in the room. The other ammenities such as the fitness center and the indoor pool were well maintained and actually useful from an exercise standpoint. And I shouldn't forget room service. As is typical in any upper scale hotel, the items on the room service menu are outrageously expensive, however the items I purchased were very tasty and generous in portion size. Service was also timely, and courteous. When I went to check out, I had 7 hours before my departure, so I had a great deal of time to spare but I also had luggage to lumber around, The desk knew my situation and asked if they could store my bags for me, before I had time to make that request myself. Second time to this location and I probably will always stay here in Chicago. Size and spaciousness of luxury king suite, tremendous value right off of Michigan Ave, pool and very kid-friendly, one block from Starbucks, Jewel grocery store and tons of great restaurants.

The staff makes this hotel!! Their customer service and knowledge of the city is exceptional. The furnishings are a modern botique hotel with an intimate and warm setting. The gym was on the 17th floor and looked out on the city and had every piece of equipment you would need for a full workout. Convenient location, 1/2 block away from the Grand CTA station. Takes about 65 or 70 minutes to take the train from O' Hare. Comfortable bed, nice, clean room. Friendly staff. Nothing to complain about.

Overall great hotel, awesome staff super friendly. The hotel is a bit close to the Chicago fire dept. so you will hear a lot of sirens throughout the night. But great location walking distance to all great Chicago shopping, dinning, and attractions, would love to stay again!

The courtesy and efficiency of the entire staff were superb, from the bellmen (including Colin who spoiled us) and the check-in to the housekeepers included. They even heped us with directions to the Dan Ryan for our departure. An small point for improvement woud inculde another towel rack in bathroom.

We had an excellent stay at the Palomar Hotel. The staff was incredibly helpful, the location was great and the hotel was clean and modern and very comfortable. Plus they served wine and appetizers every night in the lobby area which was very nice. All and all, a great experience at the Palomar.

I had a very bad experience during my stay at Palomar. My things disappeared from my room, and the management team was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE and incompetent dealing with it. They were careless and phony. I MOST DEFINITIVELY won't ever stay again on this hotel. Avoid this hotel.

My one "problem"--a slow-draining bathtub--was resolved within hours. The staff seemed to go out of there way to be helpful during our stay. The staff was quick with tips about what to see, etc. The location was good -- near Navy Peer and Mich Ave. On the not-so-great side, some of the basics were missed. We set our dirty dishes in the hall fairly early in the evening. They were still there the next morning. Some rooms […] received complementary newspapers; we did not. The room was small and sparsely decorated. I think they were trying for a modern look, but the result was more skimpy than modern. The bathroom was tiny and lacked even one towel rack. For breakfast, Sable, the adjoining restaurant, got the "special things right." They were friendly and willing to make food recommendations. However, they did not check back with us about quality of food (we needed salt and pepper badly) and did not refill our water glasses. Our server spilled coffee on our table and left us to clean up the resulting puddle. We ate appetizers there during dinner service and also had breakfast there. The food both times was average. I expected better, as the executive chef was a Top Chef finalist. I will say the molten chocolate cake was amazing. Read more
