"Great hotel, just bring the earplugs"
We loved this hotel! It was not your cookie cutter room. It was decorated very cool & funky but was also very clean & comfortable. You can't beat the location- just a block and a half from Michigan Ave. Parking was also very convenient since the parking garage is right next door. Therein lies the noise problem. Perhaps it isn't as pronounced in other […] rooms but the room we were in was right next to the garage exit so we were awoken to 3 car alarms, an extended argument between a customer & a garage employee (one side of which was louder since he was yelling into a microphone in the booth), and warning beeps every time a car left the garage. This was all in the course of 1 night. Now that may sound very off putting but we were so impressed with the hotel & the staff who greeted us as if we were out of town friends visiting that we would stay here again; we would just bring earplugs. ACME wants to be hip and probably succeeds. Lips on the bathroom mirror, zipper on the wall & handprint over the bed plus towel rack & toilet paper rack made of pipe fittings. Great coffee delivery to the room as well. But, 6 clothes hangers didn't hack it for our 2 person 3 day stay and the area below the hangers didn't allow for longer items to hang […] fully. The 1/2 glass shower stall was a bit hard to adjust to (and I expect hard for housekeeping to handle as well). Bed without access to both sides (do guests really want a bed with access from the bottom and one side?) was awkward and could probably have been "solved" with a little different approach to the existing bedside table/snack vending/beverage vending unit. This hotel is centrally located at Michigan Miles and the CTA rapid transit in Chicago downtown area. It is great for shopping, sightseeing, and entertainment. "In the middle of it all in River North"
I puprosely booked this hotel after seeing a 49% discount on listed rates. I arrived an hour early, parked in the loading zone (allowed for 15 minutes), walked in and was thankfully allowed to get to the room. I was handed a parking transponder for in and our priviledges at the parking ramp (literally next to the hotel) PARKING IS DISCOUNTED, a HUGE […] bonus in this city where parking can cost half as much as a room per night. I was in and out of check-in in under five minutes. I was given a room on the 14 floor with a view overlooking Ohio street. I was there to shop on Michigan Avenue so it didn't matter much. Since this was low season, the hotel seemed nearly empty. Never rode the elevator with another guest over the three days. It was GREAT. Hotel was typical boutique....funky design and practical function, well, all except for the LOW water pressure (14 floor) and the trendy rain shower head which was a nuisance. I spent more time in the bathroom than I would have liked because it took forever to rinse in the shower. I would have liked the option of rain shower head and the wand type of shower head. just a personal preference. Had a 42 inch flat screen with a great selection of CLEAR stations that actually loaded quickly. Parking is affordable (a rare find) and the location cannot be beat. Bottom line: great location, trendy rooms, affordable parking, and qualfied staff that got me in and out quickly. I will be back in the spring/summer 2013. Thanks! "OK/not horrible/just not great"
This hotel is a little deceiving. It doesn't look like much from the outside. In fact it is right next door to another hotel that definitely looks seedy. The room was large enough-however there were things that had been broken and not repaired i.e. door handle to closet, loose shower handle, paint missing from a wall, this type of stuff. The reviews […] I read found that the staff were extremely helpful and polite. I didn't find this to be true. There was a hispanic women at the front desk who seemed to have an issue with asking any type of questions. The room was clean, and I thought the size was good. The decor was fun-it just needed a little TLC. It was in a great location-close to shops etc. and quiet. This hotel is also very poorly marked from the street. Very interesting place.....As a lifelong Chicagoan and suburbanite, I am pretty familiar with downtown hotels and have stayed at a few of the nicer ones (Penninsula, Park Hyatt)....but, alas, I am a gal on a budget. I was interested in the ACME from all of the positive reviews and the price was right. I was not disappointed. This hotel is very eclectic […] and is decorated in what can best be described as 'garage sale chic.' The front desk employees are casually dressed in street clothes with handwritten nametags -- but, they were also very nice. I requested and received a city view room at the time of check-in. My room had nice sheets, a comfortable bed, a nice flat screen tv and a decent bathroom. I did not like the half-glass shower door because it was too drafty and did not allow for any privacy if I had been with someone else. No one likes to close the bathroom door if they don't have to since it steams up the mirrors. In order to stay warm in the shower, I definitely had to close the bathroom door. I did not love the wood floors, but it wasn't that big of a deal. The location is absolutely perfect. All the shopping you need and a nearby Starbucks is a huge plus. Parking conveniently next door. Be sure you tell the person at the front desk that you need a transponder. It allows you access out of the garage without paying for your parking ticket.
