"cell phones blocked; restaurant bad service & food"
For some reason Verizon cell phones would not work in the hotel and efforts by the staff could not correct the problem. I was out of touch for three days; a big problem for me and my business. We had guests for dinner in the main dining room and it was a disaster of very slow service and a wierd menu. My New York steak looked like a square biscuit. […] It took 25 minutes to get the car from valet parking which is several blocks away. All the staff was good for was apologizing for the hotels glaring deficiencies. A perfect place to stay for a couples get-a-way in Chicago. Each and every person at this hotel went out of their way to be friendly and provice amazing customer service. Even the smallest of details were taken care of. One example -- we had a rollaway bed in our room. The customer service at this hotel is impeccable. When you check in the front desk clerk doesn't just hand you the keys, he actually escorts you to the room and then explains the room and hotel services. Every time you walk in or out of the building someone is there to greet you and help you with the door. And every time you walk through the lobby the […] front desk team and the concierge greet you. We received a complimentary room upgrade upon check-in and had an amazing room. It was very large, had an incredibly comfortable bed, a long hallway, and a wonderful bathroom complete with a TV. "Fantastic Hotel"
One of the best designed rooms I have stayed in - spacious, comfortable, and tons of thoughtful design elements that make staying in a hotel room pleasant (i.e. large bench for luggage, small dressing area outside of the bathroom with drawers, good sized desk with pull out shelf to accomodate work material, full sized sofa you can actually stretch out […] on). The service was second to none. Here are some examples: (1) the concierge obtained tickets to the aquarium so that we did not have to stand in line in 30 degree weather (the line looked to be about an hour long); (2) the front desk booked us at a the time and place requested for dinner; and (3) the doorman paid in cash for a cab cash when the credit card machine wouldn't work (we repaid him). The big thing here is that they offer to do these little things, you don't have to ask. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We had a great stay at The Peninsula. The check-in process was swift and the room was magnificent. The rooms are big and the amenities are superb. The bathroom was big and LOVED the full tub separate from the walk-in shower. Especially liked the TV at the foot of the tub. A very high-tech room, everything in the room was controllable from the bed and […] having a fax machine in the room was convenient. All digital hookups for music are there too. The hotel itself has an great gym, half olympic-sized pool, excellent restaurants and bar. "Peninsula Chicago, Fantastic Food, but..."
Stayed for 2 nites for my husbands birthday. Concierge recommended great restaurant for dinner, Chicago Cut. Had a wonderful meal. Returned to room and special dessert was waiting with happy birthday on plate. Turn down service left 1 bottle water and 1 glass for the 2 of us. Next day called an hour before we had to leave, to have a shirt ironed for […] myself and husband. After 45 min we called to see where they were and they had put them in for laundering instead. Since there was no iron in the room, we had to wear a wrinkled clothes out instead. Left at 9:30am returned at 4:00pm, room wasn't cleaned. Had to call for service. Went down for tea service. Was sat at dirty table. There were plenty of clean tables. Sat for 10 min., waiter took my order and came back with tea. Had to ask to have table wiped down and set. Food we ordered was fantastic, spicy tuna roll topped with lobster, assorted scones, and tea sandwiches. Turn down service arrived as we were leaving room that night. When we returned still only 1 bottle of water and 1 glass. Overall hotel was beautiful, room was lovely, but for the price, I was disappointed with the service. We were very pleased with the hotel, however I cannot give it a five because when we arrived, we were given a room with a queen sized bed. When I called down the the front desk they assurred me that it was a king...it was not. I called down again to let them know it surely was not and they said they would call me back with other arrangements. They did […] not call back. We proceeded to get ready to leave for dinner reservation and stopped by the front desk to get a solution reached. The staff was apologetic for the mix up and let us know that when we returned from dinner they had a room for us to move to.
