The Allerton Hotel on Magnificent Mile

The hotel staff were wonderful, front desk, bellman, doorman, and bar service were very attentive and helpful. This was especially important because the concierge was always busy with guests and therefore not available, but everyone else truly picked up the slack, and always made us feel special. The breakfast buffet was delicious and quick which is […] what we needed to get the day started. The doorman always seemed to have a taxi at his fingertips, we never had to wait more than a minute even thought it was very busy. I liked the remodel which had been redone since I visited 15 years ago and the modern decor appealed to my teenage daughter, but still had the elegance I remembered. Only complaint about the room was my sink was cracked, and looked as though it had been that way for some time? The room service was truly obliging and would let us sleep late and then come and clean when we were gone. Fell in love. We were upgraded for free to a larger room. But the location and service was wonderful. Of course it an older hotel but the elegance and beauty made up for the smaller space. There was one glitch. $50.00 parking! And extra $75 refundable deposit for miscellaneous charges.

Our room was very small and TV from room next door nearly drowned out ours. Shower pressure very poor. Property is clean and service was friendly, but the hotel could use some updating. The location couldn't be much better, within walking distance to lots of shopping and restaurants.

The hotel was very beautiful! The parking rate was a whopping $50/night! Totally insane!!! Advice for someone staying downtown Chicago for the first time...DON'T DRIVE A CAR OR ELSE YOU WILL PAY BIG!!!

it was great...my only complaint was parking. they charged another $20 if you stayed parked in the structure past 2:00 the next day. We didn't even check in until 7 pm, seems like we shouldn't have needed to pay extra because of that!

We like to try the historic, grand old hotels - think Palmer House or Drake. Always wanted to try the Allerton. It has the best possible location for Michigan Ave and nearby areas. This was a lovely hotel for the price we got (a great last-minute deal). We stayed a Friday and Saturday night. It's a bit of a hike if you're walking from Union Station, as we arrived by train, but a cab is very affordable and barely cost eight dollars, and the location is perfect. The hotel itself is great. The room was very clean, and the housekeeping staff/front desk were helpful and fast. Big TV with a ton of channels in the room, and nice large shower in the bathroom. My only issues were having to pay for wifi in the room - it's $9.95 for 24 hours, and we ended up just not turning it on - and that the food and drink, whether room service or in the lounge/restaurant, is extremely expensive. I got such an amazing rate through hotels.com I actually worried that I would be stuck in a broom closet. Though my room was small* (only a full size bed), it had a Michigan Ave view and bed was very comfy and room was spotless. *not small at all compared to NYC standards!
