The Allerton Hotel on Magnificent Mile overlooks Lake Michigan, one-quarter mile from the John Hancock Center and North Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, Ill. Millennium Park, Navy Pier and the Art Institute of Chicago are located one mile from the hotel. The Shedd Aquarium stands less than one-and-one-quarter mile from the hotel. The Sears Tower is one-and-one-half miles away.

Built in 1924, this hotel reflects the style of the Italian Renaissance Revival period. The on-site M Avenue Restaurant and Lounge serves contemporary American cuisine and a selection of wines, beers and appetizers. The hotel's coffee shop serves Intelligencia-brand coffee. A business center offers print, photocopy, fax and scan services for a fee. Wireless Internet access is complimentary in the lobby. Function rooms accommodate from 10 to 200 people. "Great Value"
Convenient location to all of the action on the Magnificent Mile. My room had not been cleaned yet when I got it so they gave me a free upgrade. The room was nice. I had breakfast one morning in the restaurant and the service was a bit slow because they were so busy but the actual food was great. Good stay if you bought this at a bargain price. I would rate this hotel at a 3 stars. We stayed one night. Was shocked to see a printed room statement that read "hidden rate" for an additional $50 plus occupancy tax when we had paid in advance via expedia. We quickly removed the erroneous charges. "Be careful not to touch their shady cooler"
Room was okay, nothing to complain about, but be careful anyone who stays here not to touch items in the refrigerator, they will try to charge you a shady $25 for sanitation just because you touched a can of pop in the refrigerator, also be ware that it's automatic, if you take anything for a minute it will be charged, also got a room next to an elevator, […] every 5 min you hear "ding" cause ur room next to the elevator, it was painful one night stay In my case I got my issue resolved after my bill came close to $100 because I looked at the items in the refrigerator even though I didn't use anything, then they said I will be charged $25 for cleaning, after 2 calls to the main desk finally issue resolved by a receptionist. I was disappointed with my stay at the Allerton. The service was spotty - at times excellent, at times very slow. The rugs were fraying. It was difficult to turn off the very loud heat in my room. The bill was incorrect (they did correct). The letters on the keys on the computer keyboard were worn off; the version of IE from last century. The elevators […] were very slow. They seemed to have technology problems (i.e., their computers were very slow for room service, pulling up room names, etc) I would not recommend this hotel for business travel. "Convenient and safe location"
I was in Chicago on business; the hotel and room were perfect for that. For an old hotel, it is in great shape; no carpet lifting or missing woodwork that you see in some. The room was a bit on the small side, but I really just slept there, so not a problem. Lack of a fridge meant I had buy small portions for each meal. I bit of noise from the elevator […] "dings." Overall, a good experience in a clean room in a hotel with helpful staff. I would stay there again. The neighborhood felt safe even to a middle-age woman on her own. I booked day-of, and managed to get a mobile special rate, and this place ended up being the cheapest hotel downtown. "Gem of a hotel for one on the Magnificient Hotel"
Great little hotel! Clean, modern rooms in a great location. Rooms are tiny as it is a historic building, but my std room was perfect for just me. I am 5' 8" and the double bed worked fine for me. It was nice and firm and the linens were heavenly. Shower was so fantastic! I was on the 7th floor, Michigan Ave side and there was a LOT of street noise. […] That is too be expected in such a great location, but if you're a light sleeper you may want to sleep with the tv on. I did like that I could open the windows and let in some fresh air and scope out the scene below. Very city! I ordered room service, I recommend the scallops! Skip the caprese panini and beware the hazelnut ice cream and hot chocolate cake. It's to die for. I used the business center to print my boarding pass and there's connection was very fast so that was easy. I did have to go back and do it in the am as they only have two PCs and it was pretty busy when I got back to the hotel the night before checkout. I did not use the wifi in the room so I can't speak for that. I know there is an additional charge for it, but it wasn't shown anywhere and I wasn't that in need so I didn't bother investigating. The hotel was close to where I needed to be for a conference and the location on the Mag Mile was perfect. The staff was very nice and courteous. Everything in the hotel was very clean and nice looking. However, the room and bathroom were quite small compared to other downtown hotels. Some issues upon arrival, the tv did not work ~ could not get local […] channels to watch the news - this was fixed by maintainence quickly though. Also one of the towels had frayed edges.
