Hotel Sax Chicago

Wasn't aware of the fact that my card would be charged AFTER the fact of parking. Someone else agreed to pay for parking. Which onsite is $57 per night. Instead, it was billed to my card. I wasn't even given the option to pay with another card. Wasn't happy when I discovered this, and still not happy.

Overall, I was satisfied with our stay. I'm from Chicago and love the House of Blues. I also like the Crimson Lounge. Hotel Sax is very stylish and they have a good location on the river. The Studio on the 6th floor was really cool, my kids loved being able to play video games. However, not all of the consoles were hooked up and working which was a disappointment.

The service at the hotel was top-notch especially the men out front of the hotel. They were generous, courteous and very friendly. They did everything for me from hailing cabs, parking my car, handling my suitcases and just plain old chit-chat with me. Hotel Sax is a high profile, higher priced hotel. For the price we paid, it should have included a packet of info about the hotel (was room service available). I think of Motel 6 when I see large refillable plastic jars of shampoo, etc. Not an above priced hotel. All hotels I stay at include newspaper delivered to my room as well as coffee in my room. […] Hotel Sax is painted (in need of repainting) black and silver. The color combo could have been classy, but not when the elevators need repainting. What's with the bedside lamps, with light choice of only bright , taking the place of where your head should be when reading in bed? On the last day of our visit, the housekeeping arrived around 3:00. After a hot day of shopping, we wanted to shower not wait for a stranger to leave the room. Unfortunately, we will not return. The attached resturant is fabualous for breakfast! The staff is fantastic also. Hotel Amalfi just a block away is fabulous. Hotel Sax was outstanding, from the valet being nice (even when we said we are not valeting our car) to a fast check-in. The room was spacious, clean and attractive. Location is great. Hotel was clean and the lobby, bar, and restaurant upscale. The rooms were comfortable, but snug. Having the sink in the bathroom with the shower made it a bit difficult for two people to use them comfortably. I enjoyed the stay, but for the price I wouldn't give it a strong recommendation.

We enjoyed the Sax. It's building is nice and the staff helpful and friendly. We didn't like the smell in the bathroom or the difficult toilet. And I really disliked the TV that came on full blast volume and with a menu trying to sell a million things that made it a procedure to turn on ESPN. And $14/hour for the internet? Perfect location between major lake front destinations. Walk from Magnificient Mile and Navy Pier. Hotel is next to house of blues and a cool adult only bowling alley. Definitely recommend based on location! Clean, nice staff and cool old fashioned feel to hotel!!

It is convenient to public transportation and cabs and the staff was very happy to provide tips on getting around, and their restaurant recommendations were spot on. Despite being across from the House of Blues, it was quiet at night even on the weekend.

We went for spring break week, wasn't too crowded. Apparently hotel changed ownership the day we checked in, though it had no affect on our stay. The location can't be beat, on north side of the river, walking distance to most tourist attractions, right next to the House of Blues. I felt the double bed room was a bit small for 2 adults and 1 child. […] TV channels are limited. Beds could be a little more comfortable but weren't terrible. Wireless internet costs extra, but front desk gave me a complimentary access code which worked the entire stay. Bathroom was decent. Toiletries (except soap) are communal so if you don't like that idea, bring your own. There is no fridge, only a mini-bar. There are stores nearby to purchase your own refreshments and such, if you desire. The price to park our car was a bit high but was worth keeping it safe considering we didn't take it out at all during our stay. Bellmen were pleasant and welcoming. Overall, I was pleased with the stay and the value we got through online search. Read more

Pros: Friendly staff. Great location. Our room overlooked the River. Bathroom is very spacious, modern and clean. Beds are comfortable and warm. Big flat screen tv, modern alarm/radio clock with the capability to connect your Ipod/mp3/smart phone to it. Plenty of towels and large mirrors both in the room and the bathroom. Cons: Valet parkers were not […] helpful in directing us to a self-park parking lot. Had to call the hotel for information and we were directed to parking lot over 2 blocks away. Had to pay extra for Wi-Fi. The room were equiped with snacks and a mini bar but prices were ridiculously expensive ($6 for a bottle of water) No coffee maker. Pillows were too small and flat. Beside the beds, the room had only 1 chair available which was small, uncomfortable and worn out. I recommend this hotel for a short stay like a overnight stay but not for a longer one. Read more

This hotel is well centrally located almost next to the Chicago river, close to good restaurants. CTA is at a walking distance. Rooms are spacious. Bathrooms are fairly large size. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. We do recommend this hotel.

My family spent a long weekend in Chicago and were able to get a room at the SAX at a reasonable rate for the weekend. My wife and I found the doorman and parking attendents to be awsome however the Concierge, Desk Persons, and even the service in the lobby bar were less than attentative. The hotel is in the wonderful location by the Chicago river canal, customer service is excellent, and check-in and check-out is very fast and easy. Location is good but limited because cab is necessary to get around when you want to see more than just expensive restaurants around. The Hotel Sax is in a great location to hit all of the major Chicago attractions. We were a little frustrated with our check in taking almost 40 minutes when arriving after 5:00PM. The consierge was constantly busy during our stay. We asked the bell hops and the employees behind the check in area a few what I thought were general tourist questions and […] they always referrred us to the consierge. At one point we waited 20 minutes to speak to her as it seemed like she was planning another guest's weekly itinerary. We made the best of it and learned the city by trial and error. Over all the room was very nice. We had mold in our shower and only three shower towels for four people but besides that the room was good. The website listed vending machines on each floor. We never found one on all the floors that we checked around us. Overall a fun family trip to Chicago and the Sax was priced better than others in the area and was so conviently located. Read more

Good location. Service was very good. Concierge wnad valet were both very helpful. Got a great deal because parking was free with our deal fom Hotels.com. Only complaint was that they that they only gave you 1 bar of soap for the bathroom. Had to use for the sink and the shower. Would stay here again.

We were in the city for the 4th and the location could not have been better. Great restaurants in all directions. Staff was great. We have stayed in NY for a similar price and were far from everything and the room was half the size. Lots of hotels to stay at in the area but this one is a sure thing.

Not a good experience. From the little things (no soap in the bathroom) to the bigger things (terrible heating/cooling system) this hotel failed to meet our expectations. The room temperature was either freezing (when the air kicked in) or stifling (when the air kicked off). Bathroom was dinghy and the tub was in ill-repair. I really like the staff. very friendly and helpful. I need to store my cold drinks but sort of made a mess to their private bar. They didn't charge me anything but even bringing a fridge to my room! The Jazz band was a bit noisy at lobby but once you went up the room, decor was classy and was real comfortable. My sons and I liked it!

Nice hotel. Parking very expensive. Expected free wifi and didn't get it. No complimentary breakfast and minibar was very well stocked but pricey. Hotel was very clean but shower pressure was poor.
