"Nice hotel!"
It is an old but a good and maintained hotel. Enjoyed the stay there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Friendly Staff, central location, close to restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Silversmith Hotel & Suites Thank you for the feedback!
"Convenient location & decent price"
I wish the cleaning staff had moved the footstool and chair during vacuuming as they would have picked up some of the debris I found from the previous visitor. Also, some of the lightbulbs were burned out. One other thing - it's nice to have limited cable TV, but how about a TV guide so guests can know what channels are available? The bed and bathroom […] were both spotless and clean, and the attached restaurant has the best Chicken soup in the world. Very close to both parking and the CTA trains. "Always a nice stay"
I've stayed here several times in the past and have always enjoyed my stay. Hotel is convenient to the Loop, restaurants and attractions. The hotel provides free wi-fi and has finally upgraded to LCD TV's! If you do have a room that overlooks Wabash Ave, you will hear the "L" train, which sounds like thunder. If that bothers you, ask for a room that […] doesn't face Wabash Ave. All in all, a good stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall a fine hotel with a few glitches. Cleanliness, quality and food (we only ate breakfast there) were fine. Staff were all friendly & helpful. The biggest negative was the low flow rate of hot water for a shower. As I turned the temp hotter, the flow rate slowed. It was OK, but not a satisfying, drenching spray. The second glitch was that when […] I extended my stay by phone with hotels.com, the hotel gave someone else our room, even though my wife phoned the front desk ans was assured that we could keep the same room. They moved the new guests after they walked in while my wife was on the phone. The hotel staff was apologetic and gave us a couple of free breakfasts. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very NICE hotel"
Very nice hotel, value was beyond excellent! Except for the very expensive parking:) Within walking distance of where we had to be. Location close to the "L" made it just a little noisy and the hotel is beginning to show it's age since last major redo. But...with that said....we WILL stay at this hotel again. Our compliments to the manager on a well […] run, staff "very-friendly" retreat in the loop. We loved it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The staff and facility were impressive. I found them to be more than helpful, and they went out of their way to give assistance. "Chicago Loop"
Excellent check-in. Carpets need update. Lobby feels empty and dated, but clean. Room was large and updated and very comfortable, but dark. There were three lamps in the main room, but it was still much to dark to work in. Slept well. Quiet. Hum of train in back of hotel was not at all disturbing. Great value and felt very safe.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Loved it! The hotel is very clean, the room was really spacious, and the staff were all very friendly, personable, and always willing to help out. The hotel was only a few blocks from the lake front and close to the Field Museum and the aquarium. Great!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Terrific location and cheerful staff"
This hotel was terrific -- so close to the Art Institute, shopping, transportation, and Millennium Park. It was so easy to take the $2.25 train from O'Hare to the hotel (only a short 3 block walk). The only problem was a stuffed toilet which the hotel corrected promptly. I would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful hotel. Wonderful staff."
Great hotel and super efficient staff. Be sure to get a room near the back of the hotel since the front and middle you will be sure to hear the noise from the El. That's the only drawback. Many of the rooms are noisy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Had to find other accommodations"
Due to a rainstorm and an apparently leaky roof, the Silversmith was unable to provide me with a room. Their staff did make arrangements for me to stay at another hotel in the vicinity and provided cab fare to get there, but after a delayed flight, the situation was less than ideal. The staff was pleasant, but somewhat nonchalant about the inconvenience […] of the situation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Comfortable stay and great location"
The Hotel's location on the Loop makes it very easy to get around the city, and it is within walking distance of many sights around downtown. Staff at the hotel was very nice and attentive to any needs. The room was clean, incredibly spactious, and the bed was quite comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The king suite pull out couch was broken. Maintenance was able to open it, but the mattress had a big stain on it. Otherwise, the staff was kind, helpful, and prompt. It was a great location downtown, and I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Outstanding stay!"
The Silversmith Hotel was excellent - we LOVED our stay! Decor is wonderfully updated yet architectural features (cornices, door enhancements) remain to show-off hotel history. Silver accoutrements accent each room - even the waste cans! Proximity to Michigan Ave, Millennium Park and local (reasonably-priced) restaurants was great! Miller's Pub had […] the best Spanakopita and Pizanos' deep-dish pizza (with outside seating) was very tasty. The hotel entrance is a bit understated because the lobby is actually on the second floor- so look for the bellman's stand. Someone is there 24 / 7. Parking is pricey (it's Chicago), so on day two, we moved our car to the Millennium parking garage for a 40% savings. We will be back! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Old, dirty, loud, stuffy no service...avoid!"
The carpets look like they haven't been cleaned. There was dried food on the wallpaper. The furniture is old. The bathroom had peeling wallpaper, broken tiles and fixtures that needed replacing. I felt uncomfortable sitting on the sofa in the living room so much that I took the blanket and placed it over the sofa to sit on. The bed is not comfortable. […] Because of the furniture & general lack of cleanliness, I kept all of my clothes in my suitcase. The room was never cool and would run constantly and was so loud, you couldn't hear the TV. My room was #405 and directly faced the "L" so all I would hear would be either the train or the AC. I let the front desk know I would be checking out very early in the morning (3:30 a.m.) and I asked if there would be someone at the front desk or the valet desk to hail me a cab as this is not the safest part of Chicago, especially that early in the morning. I was assured that the front desk and valet desk are manned 24 hours a day and that this would be no problem. On checkout, I checked out, I called down to the front desk to request a taxi to the airport. No one answered. When I went down to the front desk, there was no one there. When I went to the front desk, a man with "security" came around the corner and said, are you checking in? We go outside and instead of hailing me a cab or calling a cab service, he says, "follow me" and walks me 3 blocks down the street and over a block to another hotel that had a cab sitting there! "A not so sweet suite"
If I were staying here by myself in a single room, I would have been more satisfied and would recommend the hotel. I definitely would recommend anyone opting for a suite. We stayed in what was promoted as an executive suite and it was anything but! When the couch was pulled out, it reached the edge of the bed. The hotel amenities were marginal at best. […] There was a microwave but no plates or silverware, just a couple of paper cups. In terms of housekeeping, we were there three days before the shampoo and cups were replenished. However, the front desk was helpful and the location inside the loop is great. We faced an enclosed courtyard and could barely hear the El. I do not know if any rooms actually faced the El in front. "Surprisingly elegant"
Lovely hotel with large, well appointed rooms. Be sure to get a room up high above the L train or the noise will certainly keep you up. Staff was excellent and attentive. onsite dining a bit substandard but there are plenty of great food options nearby. Overall a good value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
