Eh?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel was well located. Room was ok but very sparse. Small elevator. My mother had the adjoining room and her shower did not drain. For the price I expected more. You are paying for the location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location and very comfortable bed, though no coffee maker in room. Left my phone charger in my room - after repeated calls, no return call to say it was found or not found.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for what I needed"
I stayed here because of its proximity to the Broadway Playhouse. Overall I enjoyed my stay, how ever the larger elevator went out of order during my stay and no signage was put up until MANY hours later.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Boutique Hotel Needs Facelift & TLC"
The hotel is well situated but needs management to pay attention to the condition of the interior. The photo's online are much nicer than in actuality. The only redeeming features for me were the comfort of the bed/pillows and cleanliness of the room. I didn't, however, feel comfortable taking a bath...which is one thing I look forward to when I travel. […] I would highly advise on the following: A fresh coat of paint would make a world of difference. Replacing the old worn out lampshades (some with pen marks on them). Changing the blinds (they were dirty). Put a full length mirror somewhere. With some money invested in a little modernization, this hotel could be a star. As it stands it's a diamond in the "very" rough. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could have been better"
Poor repair and outdated amenities. Decent price. Great locationGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"good value for the money"
Great location. Hotel shows wear and tear but staff was pleasant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location. great area. But rooms are tiny. Holiday inn express size. Then if u want to extend your stay you have to check out. Start a new reservation, and pay additional incidental fee for the new reservation. ! $60 per reservation. And the hold is for three days.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location, small room, felt worn. Front desk was helpful and pleasant. Steakhouse doesn't fit the hotel, was loud and blaring music onto the sidewalk all night and into the AM. Its a place if you just need a place to sleep and shower. Uncomfortable and useless lobby, no coffee (but a Starbucks is across the street) and TV with a dozen stations […] and no guide. Liked it better when the Italian restaurant was there. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Old is good and bad"
I loved the old style of the hotel, but my room had a distinct odor and the lights kept turning off and on throughout the night. Also, the valet parking fee is horrendous when comparing it to the cost of the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Convenient location to north side attractions. Small old hotel. Ditka's Restaurant next door. Limited services at hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was charmin& clean very small but clean with the nice view . very good location , quite nighborhood , easy access to places . The building is old but I think they renovated . Since we were busy all day , it was a good place to rest at night and enjoyed there continental breakfast in the morning .Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Oldie but goodie"
First, this hotel has a fantastic location for the money. However, it's very dated and the room needed new furniture and a coat of paint. If your looking for a hotel with very large rooms, then this isn't for you.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not bad for the price I paid."
Hotel and rooms are dated, but I only paid $126 (tax included) so I was not displeased. Excellent location--1 block from Michigan Ave. and water tower. For that price, I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No bells or whistles but perfect location,"
We only used the hotel for sleeping because we were out most of the time but our experience was good. Bed and pillows we super comfortable. Room was old but doable and clean. Our room was right next to elevators but we were not disturbed at all. The staff was pretty helpful but the front desk really had no experience with downtown, didn't know where […] a lot of things where located. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Tremont @ Chicago Magnificent Mile"
Great location, great walking distance to many amenities. No coffee maker in room - Starbucks across the street, restaurants within very short walking distance - just out the front door is Mike Ditka's and other eateries, bars, and cafes. Walking distance to the beach. Old building with lot's of character. $59 valet parking :(Genuine Expedia guest review
The location cannot be beat! We could walk almost everywhere from our hotel and if we couldn't, the hotel is one block from Michigan Avenue, where you can hop on a bus! The bed was very comfortable. The interior could really use a coat of paint.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Tremont Chicago Hotel at Magnificent Mile Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. Our location is one of the best being a 1/2 block off of Michigan Avenue! Enjoy! Christine W General Manager
"fantastic location; ho-hum accomodations"
The hotel was undoubtedly at some point very nice, but there seems to have been very little upkeep/upgrading done through the years. The materials are nice but outdated, the elevators are very cramped, the fixtures need to be nicer, the heating system is noisy, etc. Having stayed in several other hotels in the same area of the city for various conferences […] over the years, this property doesn't measure up to the competition. If it were available for a significant discount (like the Whitehall), the shortcomings could be excused. As it is, this is one of the worst bargains around. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Arrived at 10 pm. First room smelled -- bellman said unacceptable. given a new room which smelled ok, but AC never worked. Hallway nice and cool, but room warm and stuffy. Overhead fan made it bearable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, tired hotel"
The hotel service and cleanliness were fine, but the building itself needs refurbishing. It's an old building and definitely shows its age A little brass polish and some new flooring would go a long way to making this hotel look great. However, we would stay at the Tremont again because of it's ideal location near North Michigan Avenue and its proximity […] to Ditka's Restaurant. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not bad - neighbor rooms were loud"
The hotel was decent enough. Biggest problem was - the doors allowing you into the neighboring rooms had no sound barrier. The door even had a crack in the bottom. We could hear every word they said, and it was loud until late into the early parts of the morning...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice location. Good price. Good bed. Older hotel. Good place if you want to save some money and don't care about having the best. If you want to just do your business things, go shopping, or spend your money at restaurants, this hotel would be fine.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Tremont Chicago Hotel at Magnificent Mile Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your stay. I was very happy to read the nice comments about our location and beds which are the newest edition to the many changes we are completing throughout the hotel. We look forward to your return in the near future! Enjoy! Christine Wechter General Manager
"Old, outdated & no room service"
Rooms need some updating as thry are rather old. There was chipped paint & cracks in the walls, pretty old furnishings and a very old vanity in the bathroom. If Ditka's restaurant advertises they are in the Tremont hotel, they should at least provide room service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"comfortable but old"
the hotel was in an excellent location and the bed was very comfy but overall the room did not appear well maintained. The electrical plates were coming off the wall, one of the miniblind ropes' attachment to the wall was broken and there was a large hole in the wall. Needs updating.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Cordial staff. Sink clogged but were quick to fix it. Room had moldy smell to it. But good location and good price. Extremely slow elevator if running late (aren't they all like that when you need them most ?) - but this one is exceptionally slow: bring a nail file or book to read kinda hotel. Overall good experience given the location and price. I […] also loved that it was an old establishment that is not too pizzazzey (sp?) and not overwhelming. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!!"
Other than location, this hotel is mediocre at best. Halls are dingy, elevator excruciatingly slow, chipped paint, etc. It is, however a place to stay (bed was comfortable) ver close to the Mag Mile as long as all you want to do is sleep. It appeared the bathroom had been renovated more recently than anything else but not completely, i.e., new tile […] floor but the basin faucet would not turn off without hitting it with an object (in lieu of a wrench, which I didn't happen to bring with me.) If you want to sleep inexpensively (relatively) in a very posh area, this is a good choice. Staff was indifferent at best. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not what I expected .."
Called front desk, no answer..no hot water (felt more luke warm), not really good on space either. I reserved a standard QUEEN and it felt as if I was staying in a standard small sized room. The closet was in the bathroom behind the door (this was really annoying)..the ceiling fan turned on by itself and the alarm clock made static noises that I ended […] up unplugging it and using my cell phone as an alarm clock. Aside from all that, location was great, complimentary wi-fi was good and complementary water was good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice and close to Water Tower Place"
Nice hotel for the price. It was small and older. Had very nice staff, very willing to answer any and all questions. Could use some renovations, I think they were starting on the lobby when we left. Windows were single pane and let in cold air. Excellent location, but the parking was a little confusing and expensive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"OK for the price"
Small room that never warmed up. ( It was in the teens, but with two large windows, the antiquated heating system couldn't keep up.) Vintage hotel and great location for a good price. Parking was over half the cost of the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not the 4 Seasons !"
Good central location. Not many amenities - no coffee in room. You can walk a few blocks to a local grocery store that has an excellent selection of fruits, a deli, salad bar and extensive wine and beer selection. Take a right out of the hotel - go 2 short blocks to end - take a right and the store in on your right.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Acceptable hotel; could be better."
The service was great all in all, and everyone was plenty friendly. The housekeeping attempted to knock only on one of the three mornings we were there and directly tried to enter the other times. There's only one moderately busy elevator, which did not make living on the 14th floor very convenient. The main reason I give this hotel 3 stars overall […] is because that is what its value deserves. While the cost for each night is acceptable, parking in the area is expensive, and the hotel's valet parking is even more expensive at $54. Would not recommend if a car is part of the party. Also, the website states the complimentary breakfast is $5; it is $10. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location for getting around easy by bus/taxi"
it wasnt a bad experience and it wasnt a great experience. it worked for just what we needed it to do, give us a places to sleep after a long day of walking in chicago.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Mostly okay experience"
The only problem was that my room was very hot and that there was nothing they could do about it. I managed by opening the windows and waiting. It became bearable reasonably quickly. Other than that, the staff was very good and the experience was satisfactory.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location - OK room"
After reading reviews, I thought the hotel would fix some of the problems. I got the room with the tub/shower that drained very slowly. Good thing the main elevator didn't work very well because it was next to my room - at least I didn't have noise from the elevator. I still would recommend it because of the location. It was great!Genuine Expedia guest review
"The Tremont Hotel was Fine But..."
Pros: The hotel location was perfect. Customer service from the clerks/valets was superb. Whatever I needed, the Tremont staff tried their best to accommodate me and I definitely appreciated it. The waiter/bar staff at Ditka’s, right below Tremont; was also impressive. Cons: The rooms were not very modern, they looked old. The room was clean but not […] up-to-date; even the hallways looked a little run down. The TV channels were somewhat limited and at times the TV cut out. There was only 1 customer elevator and it seemed was very ancient; to me the elevator looked like something built in the 50’s and it felt like it could break down at any moment. Overall: I gave this hotel 3 stars only because the customer service and location was excellent. The hotel price was cheaper than the average hotel in that area, however, my next visit I will pay the extra $75-$100 a night to get the amenities I’m used to. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The Parking Situation Sucks! The hotel does not validate at all. I love the area though. Bed very comfortable. Shower hot and powerful though it has not been updated for quite awhile and the tile was knocked up.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Quaint hotel. Good location and price for what it is. Rooms a little drab, but for the price it's expected. Don't do the breakfast in the morning! Total rip off. Better off at sbux across the street!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, needs some work"
We were happy to have been upgraded to a suite - very nice to have the extra space and kitchen! Things we wished we did have: better lighting, cleaner carpeting, larger bathroom, hair dryer, coffee in room, a working safe. Overall, it was a great location and price, but could use updating.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"An old hotel"
This is certainley an old hotel, but the room was ok, considering the location. It would'nt hurt for them to do a little maintenence on the rooms, and to tell people when they check in that the "complimentary" breakfast ISN'T. Other than that the stay was OK. Most of the staff was quite pleasant, and the bed was great. Not much choice of channels on […] the TV though. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old & Funky (But Not in a Good Way)"
Although the staff were generally nice, the condition of the hotel leaves a bit to be desired. There's only one elevator and it is so slow that you might as well wait 10 minutes for it to arrive. My room was okay, but I could definitely smell mildew from the vents and the water in the bathroom didn't exceed lukewarm. When I went to checkout, the staff […] weren't around. I waited 10 minutes and eventually just left. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Some conveniences lacking, such as coffee pot in room. Asked for light to be fixed in bathroom--not done. Clean older hotel in prime location. Next to Ditkas restaurant. Room was very small, but my daughter and I just spent one night. Would stay again , maybe ask firs larger room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The air conditioning was not working on the floor I was on and was not able to switch rooms.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No frills, but still quite charming"
The hotel is an older property, but it seems to have been maintained pretty well. The location is ideal for shopping and entertainment, but for business purposes, I might choose another. The internet didn't work in the room and when I called down, they said they'd send a technician, but no one came. I ended up spending most of the afternoon in the starbucks […] across the street for Wifi. Wifi in the lobby was quite slow as well. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"OK to stay if you are walking."
The staff were excellent. The room never did get cool. The cleanliness was fine, but general maintenance was lacking. The rate was advertised as 20% off peak rates. They failed to note a 100% increase in valet parking fees. Probably will not stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location but needs some work."
I feel that this hotel was overpriced for what I got. It is an older hotel that needs some renovations done to it. Also, all of the lamps had switches on the cords instead of actually on the lamps. The cable had just basic channels. Overall, a very small room for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for the price, but outdated a bit..."
Good location and comfortable for the price. Bathroom was is severe need of an update. We booked a room with king size bed but because we were Starwood preferred guests we were upgraded to a studio apartment next door in the Tremont Suites. These were obviously previous residences that have been converted. Great layout, bathrrom was clean, bedroom was […] comfortable with down comforter, but there was only one TV in the family room. Since we are hardly in our hotel when we travel we didn't care. The kitchen had microwave, stove and a refrigerator that didn't keep anything cold, no toaster or cookware. It would have been nice if there was because we would have made lunch or dinner there. Location was good, close to Navy Pier, Mag Mile and only about 4 short blocks to the L(Chicago and State on the red line. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Left a message with housekeeeping including a sign inthe room that the shower would not drain, and just filled up until almost overflowing. Gave up after repeated trys to get it fixed. Location, and friendliness of staff though was excellent! Would still stay there again, and have in the past.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was average, but not something that I feel was really worth what I paid to stay AND park there...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not up to par!!"
The elevator was not in service for an entire day, and this was on St. Patrick's Day when the hotel was filled to capacity. Also, it was 80 degrees out, but the staff couldn't turn on the air conditioning because it was too early in the year. Hotel rates are good, but parking is $50/day. Also, I was not allowed to cancel one day out of my three day […] reservation due to hotel "rules." There has to be better places to stay downtown than this one!!!! "Heat wave in March"
Room was clean but hot. Thermostat did not work at all! Luckily it was March so we cracked the window. Can't imagine how hot it would be in July.
