"Good location but suite beyond disappointing"
Reservation for Grand Suite....BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. "Kitchenette" simply a counter space with a mini fridge. Bedroom--VERY small. Couldnt even walk around the bed because the bottom corner of the bed was against a part of the wall. Bathroom was ridiculously small-like two people can't stand in there together without touching unless one is halfway in […] the shower. Speaking of which is a stand up shower with only a half clear glass panel so you froze while showering. Oh and the bathroom did not have a fan, could be very awkward given the closeness to the bed of two feet. When I first walked in I was so shocked that this was the grand suite--I even called the front desk to ensure we received the right room. The guy said he check to see if we could get a different room layout and then never called back. Needless to say, pictures are decieving and I have stayed at other hotels standard rooms and they have been better for the same price. It is a pretty clean hotel despite the old building feel and the fact we were at the end of a hall that was a sloppy storage corner. It is in a good location, right by hancock building, mag mile & water tower mall. I felt secure staying there-keycard for elevator which was kind of a con too since it was slower because of it. We stayed here last spring and loved everything about this place, so when we were returning this February we didn't even look at any other place to stay. We have one BIG complaint. The hotel was very, very hot. It wasn't just our room, it was out in the hallways, and our friends room, which was one floor up was just as hot. Everything was great but the room size. We had a room with a King Bed and the bed consumed the floor space. "Magnificent Mile"
The Drumbar on the top floor was exclusive and had a strict dress code. The staff was extremely helpful and informed us of the grocery store location down the street. The hotel was one block from Lake Michigan and one block from the Magnificent Mile, right behind the John Hancock Observatory. The American Girl Store and Lego were across the street from […] the Observatory. Bloomingdales was kiddie corner from the Observatory. The restaurant in the hotel was very good but VERY expensive- everything they brought to the table turned out to cost us money. Great location next to the John Hancock building. Was only a few blocks away from Oak Street Beach to see the air and water show. The restaurant was excellent as well as the roof top area. "What A Dissappointment!"
I have been traveling for work and leisure for years. I had a couple collegues of mine meet me at the hotel around 6:15pm to have a drink before we hit Chicago for the night. We went up to the bar and were greeted by "Marco" the "Hotel Club" bouncer. My associate and myself had just been up there minutes prior and went down to meet our collegues to […] bring them up to the bar. After waiting for over 20 minutes for an elevator because each one was full on it's way up, we were told by "Marco" that because one of my collegues had brand new tennis shoes on that he needed to change them to come into the bar. Then he proceeded to let the group behind us in shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes into the bar as we left for the elevators as I looked on at a woman in flip flops and shorts and a t-shirt on. At check out I asked to speak to someone about the embarrassing experience and especially since I was a paying hotel guest I felt I should have been allowed in the bar. The manager just nodded and agreed with me, but offered no credit on the room purchase or to even offer a stay at another time. She said they were "adjusting to having the hottest rooftop club in Chicago". I don't know of a "hot rooftop club in Chicago that crowds up at 6:15pm". "Perfect Locations, Cheap Parking!"
We had a great stay at the Raffaello! The hotel was so clean, rooms were comfortable. The rooftop had an amazing view of the Hancock tower and the location was perfect. Overall we loved it! "Don't stay here"
The room was large, the shower terrific, the housekeeping staff and the concierge were very nice. But everything else was mediocre to awful. 1. There were almost no lights. One small bulb between the beds (unable to read), another small lamp on the desk, and one floor lamp near the closet (not near anything useful). But there was a light in the tiny […] closet!!!!! No comfortable chairs. 2. No food available in hotel for breakfast, only room service. Two stale muffins and coffee (no juice, butter or jam) = $38.00. Broken coffer maker in room and no tea. When we asked for tea bags we were told that they are not provided but were available for a charge to the room. 3. There is a small bar in the unpleasantly tiny lobby. No menu is offered. I ordered a glass of white wine and the bartender poured the most expensive, without asking. The manager who admitted that they are in the business to make money and the bartender was instructed to do exactly as she did!!!!!! "overpriced for what is offered"
It's in a great location and the rooms were fairly comfortable. However, the heater in the room did not work. The shower is designed very poorly and thus gets water all over the bathroom floor. The walls are very thin, so you hear pretty much anything going on in the surrounding rooms and hallway and street. For the price I was expecting more. Recently stayed at the Raffaelo in Chicago over the July 4th weekend. We stayed in a suite that turned out to be very nice, it was more like an aparment in that it was quite generous in size. The bedroom was quite large, and the bathroom was completely separate in that you have to step out into the hallway of your room and then enter the bathroom (in […] other words, it's not an ensuite).
