"Oversold and not helpful"
I have stayed here many times before, and I have always been satisfied. However, my experience on Saturday night (12/8) was less than satisfactory. I paid for a room with two double beds. Upon check-in, the woman at the desk said that she upgraded us to a suite, for which I thanked her. We walked into the room and saw that it had one king sized bed. […] I called down to the desk and explained the problem. I was told by the woman at the desk that the couch turned into a sleeper sofa, so we still had two beds. I stated that I paid for two comfortable hotel beds, and not one comfy bed an uncomfortable sleeper sofa. She kept trying to convince me that the suite was an upgrade because it was more expensive than the two doubles room. I kept trying to convince her that it's not an upgrade because an upgrade means you get more than what you paid for, not less. She finally admitted that they oversold the double rooms and that was the best they could do. I will not be returning to the hotel after this negative experience. For what I paid, the room was entirely TOO SMALL and the fees for parking overnight are "highway robbery." $50.00 is simply outrageous for parking and there is no excuse for that. The room was so dam small, that I barely had room to literally move comfortably. The TV handset was not working properly and I did not like the shower arrangement at all without […] a door. I WILL NOT BE BACK EVER. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"What A Dissappointment!"
I have been traveling for work and leisure for years. I had a couple collegues of mine meet me at the hotel around 6:15pm to have a drink before we hit Chicago for the night. We went up to the bar and were greeted by "Marco" the "Hotel Club" bouncer. My associate and myself had just been up there minutes prior and went down to meet our collegues to […] bring them up to the bar. After waiting for over 20 minutes for an elevator because each one was full on it's way up, we were told by "Marco" that because one of my collegues had brand new tennis shoes on that he needed to change them to come into the bar. Then he proceeded to let the group behind us in shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes into the bar as we left for the elevators as I looked on at a woman in flip flops and shorts and a t-shirt on. At check out I asked to speak to someone about the embarrassing experience and especially since I was a paying hotel guest I felt I should have been allowed in the bar. The manager just nodded and agreed with me, but offered no credit on the room purchase or to even offer a stay at another time. She said they were "adjusting to having the hottest rooftop club in Chicago". I don't know of a "hot rooftop club in Chicago that crowds up at 6:15pm". I felt like they didn't care and would never recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't stay here"
The room was large, the shower terrific, the housekeeping staff and the concierge were very nice. But everything else was mediocre to awful. 1. There were almost no lights. One small bulb between the beds (unable to read), another small lamp on the desk, and one floor lamp near the closet (not near anything useful). But there was a light in the tiny […] closet!!!!! No comfortable chairs. 2. No food available in hotel for breakfast, only room service. Two stale muffins and coffee (no juice, butter or jam) = $38.00. Broken coffer maker in room and no tea. When we asked for tea bags we were told that they are not provided but were available for a charge to the room. 3. There is a small bar in the unpleasantly tiny lobby. No menu is offered. I ordered a glass of white wine and the bartender poured the most expensive, without asking. The manager who admitted that they are in the business to make money and the bartender was instructed to do exactly as she did!!!!!! The manager also found a price list which showed Pinot Grigio at both $10 and $18. 4. Internet is very expensive. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"What a disappointment"
The room was small, there was a hole in the ceiling directly over the bed, no hot water for a shower the next morning, the elevators were not climate controlled (very hot and stuffy) and not enough staff to check in/ check out. The food at the restaurant was poor and overpriced. It's truly amazing to me, this hotel had such a high rating. I will never […] stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Scared to Death By Window Intruder"
As I returned late in the evening with my fiancee, we retired to a beautiful king bed hotel room. Sleeping in, luckily (as they have the most opaque of draperies), I was startled and nearly given a cardio myardic infraction, when the window severely opened and closed! My Fiancee screamed and grabbed me. I was ready to kick the intruder 5 stories aloft […] a plummet to the garbage dumpster in the alley. THEY SHOULD HAVE WARNED US WINDOW CLEANERS WOULD BE OPENING OUR WINDOWS CAUSING POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER. Wish I had rights to a refund or anything - otherwise- i WILL NOT suggest this hotel to friends. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Over-rated, over-priced"
Sadly disappointed in this hotel. We were first put in a room with barely enough space to walk around bed! Next room (despite initially being told there were no other rooms available) was larger but still lacking. Staff claimed they were oversold (nice!!). Tiny closet, no shelves in bath, electical outlet in bath loose, amenities humdrum, a $10 charge […] for wi-fi, room was uncomfortably warm, and the coolest setting on the thermostat has no effect (had to open windows for air, and a symphony of traffic noise). Conscierge not available Saturday morning. Ever been nickle and dimed? Calls itself a 4-star hotel, but Rafaello isn't even close. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Shoebox"
I booked a room with a king size bed. Unfortunately the room was so small I could barely walk between the bed and the TV/chest. And, the bathroom was tiny and inconvenient at best. There was barely room for 1 person, and since the only mirror in the place was above the pedastal sink (no counters at all, just a glass shelf sticking out above the sink […] & toilet), only 1 person could use a mirror at a time. The "modern" style shower (half glass panel and 1/2 open with no door or curtain) sprayed water out onto the bathroom floor, where it formed a pond on the uneven floor. The carpet looked old and worn. And, the sound carried very clearly - from the next room and from the hall. I will NOT be staying at the Raffaello again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Bad hotel and NOT a 4 star hotel!"
I do not recommend this hotel. AC was noisy and fan only had 1 speed or it didn't work at all. Room was tiny with little room to walk between TV stand and bed. Mattress was very poor and uncomfortable. Worst of all was valet parking - way too pricey and poor service; had to wait long times to get car; they even brought out the wrong car for the person […] ahead of us! Don't use valet service and don't stay here! Even elevators are tiny - can't fit more than 2 people if they have luggage. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"No air condition in Chicago"
We were booked for two nights but after one night we had had enough. On the hotest day of the year the air condition broke and (come to find out it had been broken 3 days prior to our checking in) they keep telling us it would be fixed soon but after 24 hours, no more. After complaining to the manager we were not charged for the second night. I truly […] feel we should not be charged for the first night, it was miserable. I had my children and grand children with me and it was unhealthy for all of us. Because of the way we were treated I would not stay at this hotel again nor would I recommend it. Thank you. "AC not working.....don't stay!"
We arrived for one night on Sunday July 25. Upon arrival we were told that the AC was broken in the entire hotel and if we selected to stay we would receive 50% off our stay. Since it was only one night and there was no other option, we agreed to stay. When we checked out the next day, we were told that since we booked through Expedia. they would have […] to provide the credit not the hotel. It's been 7 days and we have not been credited. I believe the staff mislead us and we will not receive a 50% credit off our stay. This is the first time I stayed at this hotel and based my decision on the Expedia feedback. We also choose the hotel because they had a roof deck, but unfortunately due to the AC repairs the roof deck was not available. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The Raffaello in Chicago- No A/C all week!"
Upon our arrival (2pm) The Rafaello hotel said we had to wait until 4pm to check-in. It was very hot in the lobby and my wife and I became worried. After we observed the manager secretly speaking to other guests and not being forthcoming with what was going on we demanded that they tell us. After waiting for over an hour in a 100 plus degree lobby they […] tell us that their air conditioning is out and that they can not refund our money. Now, we are upset, sweating through our shirts and know it is going to be blistering hot this week in July. We called hotels.com and a very nice man took care of accommodations and put us up in the Sofitel- my favorite hotel that I will always stay in while in Chicago. We had a wonderful stay at the Sofitel and recommend it highly! When it was time to leave (4 days later) I popped my head into the Raffaello to see if they had fixed the A/C. Nope! They were still checking people in and people were leaving with FANS along with their luggage! This place needs new management and better maintenance- NO customer service whatsoever. Good luck Raffaello- I will never stay at your hotel again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cold staff, no air conditioning"
I stayed at this hotel for two nights, and for both nights the hotel had no air conditioning. The staff was not up front about the air not working, and were very cold and unfriendly. They never once smiled or welcomed us to the hotel. We were not offered a room at a different hotel due to the 90 degree weather outside and even hotter temperatures in […] our 5th floor hotel room. We were constantly being told they were working on the air conditioning, and that it should be working by that night or the following morning. When we checked out after 2 nights, there still was no air conditioning. The only satisfaction we got was after our stay talking to the manager of the hotel on the phone who refunded some of our money. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Big price small room"
I was very disppointed with the room which was very small.Although I had booked the room many weeks in advance, my husband and I were given this tiny room in which we could hardly move or put down our suitcases. We had had a long travel and were tired; we were looking forward to relaxing in a confortable place. That was not exactly the case as we just […] could not move in the room -not to mention sitting down to have a drink or watch TV! The elevators were very small too, and you had to wait for ages. I would not recommend this hotel if if the location was perfect. The staff were not particularly friendly or helpful. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Terrible Holiday Experience"
I've stayed at this hotel several times in 2010, but this stay was the WORST expereince I've had with hotels in over five years. I will never stay in this hotel again. Nor will I continue to have my colleagues stay at this hotel again. The bed had stains on the sheets, pillow cases & towels. The internet was down for over two days, and I was there […] on business. The front desk woman who was on duty during the night cared more about talking on her cell phone versus resolving my internet issue Monday morning. Shame on the hotel management & staff. "Horrible experience"
After calling prior to our arrival to notify the staff that my wife and I were coming to celebrate our anniversary; and simply requesting a 'nice room,' I was extremely disappointed to be placed into a hotel room that was the size of a closet. As a matter of fact, from looking at the hotel fire escape map, it appears that the room was the smallest on […] the floor, and, even worse, a rehab from a previous layout and actually was just a closet. We had friends staying at the hotel that night, and there room and bathroom was at least twice as big for the same rate. In asking the hotel staff for some assistance to figure out the issue, they were extremely rude and not willing to provide any help. They were not very helpful either in suggesting local restaurants, bars, etc. to visit. I have stayed at a significant number of hotels due to work & leisure travel, and this has to rate as one of my worst experiences. Overall, it was a horrible experience and my wife and I will never again visit this hotel. I would strongly recommend the same for anyone reading this review. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Avoid!!!! avoid!! Avoid!! you're better off someplace else."
No bell shop, valet, door greeter was present upon check in. We were not advised anyone would park our car for us even though it stated online that they had valet service. All hotel staff was very rude and unhelpful. We were told our room wasn't ready and to leave our luggage and park our car across the street. We took our car across the street to be […] greeted by parking attendant who started yellilng that our ford flex was too big to fit into the garage and that we needed to take our vehicle elsewhere. We didn't understand this because there were much bigger vehicles parked inside the garage. We were rudely given directions to a different parking garage 2.5 blocks away from hotel which we had to find on our own. We drug our own luggage the 2.5 blocks back to the hotel. The lobby is tiny, the elevator is extremely small. The "beautiful" roof top access reference on website overlooks dirty alley, and is nothing more than a few tables and plants. We were told upon check in we could divide the bill between me and my fellow travelers credit cards. They told us upon check out that they would do that but upon checkout they refused to give us an itemized bill and refused to divide the balance. The check out clerk was confrontational and yelled at my roommate about the instance. We told them we would not return of which they stated they really didn't care. Other little things, they stated they had a pool of which they didn't no spa service available like they said also no DVD in room Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great Location"
This hotel exceeded our expectations for the price we paid. It has a lovely roof area and tea and coffee in the lobby. The room was fine and the bathroom was big and modern. The location couldn't be better for a short stay. We stayed two nights and had only one full day but were really happy with what we managed to do mostly because of the location […] of the hotel. The nighttime river architectural tour was wonderful. Loved the shopping on Magnificent Mile, the Millennium Park, the river walk and Navy Pier.
