"Perfect site for a sister's weekend"
The hotel was great in every respect. We enjoyed the room service anytime we were hungry. The staff has personality plus! Loved the Acura free rides. Fun and knowledgeable drivers. We plan on making this hotel our sister's getaway next year. The BlissSpa was our ultimate treat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Experience... one glitch with the valet"
We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the luxury of staying at a W Hotel. I was able to treat my wife to a spa treatment and all she had to do was go down one floor to get to the spa! Bliss Spa made her feel pampered and she said the skin treatment she received was amazing! We only had one little glitch with the valet service. We left a light on in our […] car and they didn't catch it. When we called for our car the next day they told us it wouldn't start. They did jump it and get it started, but it would have been nice if they had checked and simply turned off the light for us. It was our mistake, but I kind of expected a little more from them for the price they charged for parking. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Everything good..."
I love W hotels, they are always very good... I have to say the one thing about this one was the elevator, it was very slow. Everything else was pretty great!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Do not order the congee if you are Asian"
Overall a standard W hotel; however, do not order the congee from the menu if you are Asian – you’ll be very disappointed, what you’ll get is cooked rice soaked in hot water with a few pieces of bland blanched chicken, ginger, and scallions. It is obvious that the cook has never seen nor tasted real congee.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great stay!"
Very welcoming, great staff and nice location. Only complaint is that there is no fridge in the rooms except the bar fridge, but not cold enough for dairy products. Also would be nice to have microwaves in the rooms as well, I know you can ask for them and I did twice and never received the microwave. Otherwise everything else was great!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location, Cool Initial Ambience, but....."
Love the location right on the lake near Michigan Ave. Great ambience in the lobby and the top-floor lounge. But......time to clean and maybe update a bit. Things in the rooms are getting worn out. Biggest beef is cleanliness.....just didn't feel as clean as it should be. A green piece of gum stayed on the carpet for several days right by the elevator. […] It was still there when I left to say good-bye! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The W in winter was a nice getaway"
The hotel was very modern and the staff was extremely nice. The view of the Lake and Navy Pier were beautiful. It was cold during the time we were here so the walk to Magnificent Mile was a bit longer than I would have liked.Genuine Expedia guest review

"W, not all that wonderful"
This hotel was billed as a luxury experience with upscale decor, etc. However, the rooms were not very big, or out of the ordinary luxurious for a nice hotel. The furniture in the loby was odd, uncoordinated, & uncomfortable to sit on, not upscale. The drink prices were outrageously expensive, & they raised them on the weekends. The whisky bar on the […] top of the hotel was supposed to overlook Lake MI, but that side was always closed, or booked by a private party, so it should not be part of their advertisement. "Underwhelming."
My experience was disappointing...the hotel felt like a Days Inn - maybe because it used to be a Days Inn. The lobby bar was almost cool - but the fact the restaurant closed at 9:00 (!) made it lame. The room was underwhelming at best - I've stayed at nicer hotels in Qingdao.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A hip place to stay. Not for the stodgy..."
I've stayed in many different hotels in the city. This is a great price/quality value. Cool bars to boot.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was very expensive and I would have thought the rooms would have been bigger and there would have at least been a coffee pot in the room! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Modern & Pricey"
Very modern! The bed was very comfy, but the rain shower was open and tough to get warm in. The bathroom was small without cotton balls or Q-tips. We scheduled a spa day on the last day and my Head-to-Toe facial was wonderful. However, the overall layout of the spa seamed cheap and cold. There were many tiled hallways leading to a small women's locker […] room. The moist sauna was actually the shower with steam and there was one small dry sauna. Not hot pools, cool pools or co waiting rooms. So as a couple, it was a solo experience after check in. There is a nice open bar when you first walk in, four of us sat down for a couple drinks and mussels and enjoyed ourselves (pricey though, our tab was over $250). The location of this hotel was the best part about it! Right on Lakeshore, overlooking the Navy Pier and a few blocks to shopping and dining! The staff was very friendly. "Mom & daughter weekend"
To celebrate my mom's birthday, we spent the weekend in Chicago. The W is beautiful, within walking distance to the pier and has beautiful views of the lake and the city. The only down side is that it is not close to a train. If you're OK with taxi or bus service, or if you have a car, this wouldn't be an issue. The staff is wonderful, they are friendly […] & helpful. "gorgeous views"
Like all Ws, there is a swank and hip-ness to this hotel that will make it a fun stay for any traveler. Location offers excellent views of the lake (for a price) and close enough walks to nearby River North attractions. It's a bit more of a hike to major attractions in the Loop area. The nearest train station is a 20 minute walk away, so note for those […] who will rely heavily on public transportation - it's a feasible walk, but may be more if you plan on using the train multiple times a day. As a plus, the hotel houses the bliss spa and bliss spa amenities in the room. Some things that prevent a full 5 star rating on all items - for a hotel of this caliber, it has terrible travel size hair dryers. These things took what seemed like hours to dry my hair, and I don't have long hair! The bathroom stall I had had a shower head turned in (so as not to overflow the door-less stall). The problem was to get fully under the shower, I had to wedge myself into the wall and right where the handle on the wall sits. Not a problem on most times but I banged into a few times. As a short person, in general the sink and the bed were a bit tall for comfortable usage. Otherwise the hotel is relaxing and a nice choice for those who want fabulous views of the lake. "Great Real Estate, Poorly Executed"
OK, I get it. The W is not a hotel that caters to business travelers. More accurately, they're a well-branded hotel for traveling partiers that used to be high end, but now seems to be getting by on name recognition alone. Here's the skinny: 1) The location of the W Lakeshore is awesome. Spend the extra money and get a lakeview room. You'll thank yourself […] each morning when you wake up. You can still walk to Michigan Avenue in 10 minutes. 2) The rooms are a slight bit undersized, which is to be expected in a downtown hotel...expecially a W. 3) The staff is nice, and charmingly aloof. Keep in mind that this is the W and it's important that the staff be as hip as the clientele. Caring too much would be uncool. 4) The place is packed. I was here Labor Day weekend, so that's likely to blame, but the lobby and facilities are not built for the amount of traffic the common areas sustain. 5) The lobby bar is nice, but not private and doesn't offer a lot of ambiance. What you lose in ambiance, you'll make up for in 16 dollar coctails. 6) Speaking of 16 dollar cocktails, the roof top bar, as it was described to me, is not on a rooftop. It's a tiny room with a curtain for a wall. Nice enough views on 2 sides, but nothing spectacular. I don't know if the bar usually features an outside area, but without it, the bar is something to skip entirely, not wait in line for. You're better off heading over to Drumbar at Hotel Rafaello. "Nice place to stay"
Overall, our stay was pleasent. The only complaint I had was during our check-in process. We waited an extra 2 hours to be able to get into our room...which was not the room I had booked on Expedia. They were very gracious and corrected the error quickly. Even giving us a $50 discount to use for dining during our stay and a few free drink coupons. "Our awful time at the W"
For the price there was no complimentary breakfast. Twice my room was not cleaned. I had to call for a cleaning service. there was no room service menu. I had to go downstairs to order my food wait 30 minutes because they would not deliver it to my room. "Regular guests not welcome"
I was so excited to stay at this hotel thinking it would be a step above. Walked in the front door to an overpowering smell of cologne which set off an extreme headache. Check in was easy and the clerk was friendly. Having to use your room key in the elevator before you can select your floor is a bit inconvenient. The shuttered hole in the bathroom […] wall and the sliding bamboo bathroom door which had no lock were not the most private. The room felt small. The beds were comfortable. My grandson and I went down to the lobby in the morning and happened upon a spread of bagles and juice. He wanted a bagle which I got for him and we sat down in a small lounge area. A hotel associate asked then to see my key card packet which i showed her and apparently this amenity was for business travelers only not for other guest. I apologized and she said, well since you are already here you can stay. OH THANK YOU I AM NOT WORTHY!!!! Newsflash W hotel, today I was not traveling for business. Tomorrow I just might be and will never recommend your hotel for accomodations. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Everything except a shower door"
Loved our room. They don't call it spectacular for nothing! Great view of the lake, super comfortable bed, excellent service, great bliss products. Only problem was that there isn't a shower door. "We'd stay again"
The overall vibe of the hotel was more hip and contemporary than we are but a nice place in a fantastic location. The spectacular rooms really have a spectacular view. They are not over selling it. Rooms are smaller, shuttered window to bathroom odd and not great for privacy, and air conditioner loud and inconsistent. Did I say friendly, helpful staff? […] They are excellent. It always smelled nice at the door. Really close to Navy Pier and Michigan Ave. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"4 Star Prices, 1 Star Service"
The location and the atmosphere of the hotel is nice, however, the service is absolutely awful and unacceptable. It was hectic and chaotic and not what we would expect from a 4-star hotel, let alone the W. I am a frequent patron of the Starwood Family and this was absolutely dis-concerning. The concierges didn't even know the area, nor were they friendly […] or helpful. And when I finally dragged out of them a recommendation, it was probably the worst meal we ever had. He basically googled the restaurant that was closest to where we were going. Unacceptable. The Acura car was never available and the spa was not enjoyable. The bar-tending staff was rude and slow. The elevator took forever and in a elevator conversation with another guest, they initiated the conversation on how disappointing this hotel was and chaotic and relaxing. So glad I was not the only one! I wouldn't return with all of hte great hotels in Chicago and in fact, I am less likely to return to Starwood at all after this experience. "Staff was overwhelmed."
The hotel was very busy the weekend we were there. Staff were a bit overwhelmed with the number of guests. The Concierge service was misinformed about the Willis Tower (Sears Tower). They advised that we could purchase the "fast track" tickets at the tower. It turns out we needed to get them online. We wasted time in the line only to find out that we […] needed to wait another two hours because we could not go through the fast track. Had we purchased the tickets online we would have been able to go up the tower but we had planned our day and we did not have the extra time. I would have expected more from the Concierge Desk. This is one of the major tourist attractions they should be aware of what needs to be done. The ticket cost for the "fast track" is about double the cost of a regular ticket. (ie. $40 instead of $20). We were only in Chicago a short time so the trade of was worth it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"LACK OF BATHROOM PRIVACY"
The hotel lobby, elevators, outside area, and bar were exquisite. However, the blinds that could be open in the bathroom and the sliding bathroom door in the hotel room left a lot to be desired. I was staying with my best friend but even if I came with my boyfriend, that would have still bothered me. The bathroom should be private where the door closes […] all the way and there is no open window/blinds. When I return to CHI I will not stay at the W due to lack of bathroom privacy. However, if that does not bother other people or that is not a required amentity, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"We had a great stay until...."
we didn't have any hot water in the morning to take a shower. I was thoroughly satisfied with the "W" until Saturday morning when there was no hot water. After calling the front desk, we discovered that they were aware of the problem and were working on it and would be notified when it was resolved. It never did apparently, because we heard nothing […] and checked out to head to Wrigley Field about 10:15. I did contact them after and they reversed my $55 valet parking fee for our inconvenience, which I thought was fair and equitable. Despite the cold shower, I would book and stay there again. It is a great location, the bed comfort was extraordinary and the room was clean and pleasantly furnished. Throw in a view of the lake and Navy Pier and it was dang near perfect. "W Lakeshore Chicago"
I loved everything about this hotel. Unfortunate that it is starting to show signs of wear. The best was the housekeeping. She said to make sure to stay hydrated since it […] was a "hot one today". It was so nice to have a stranger care that much. That simple thing she did made me a loyal W hotel booker!
