"Public Should be Private!"
The Public was one of the best hotel experiences that I have had. A friend had planned a birthday trip for me and had originally booked another property. However, at the last minute, a great price on Public popped up and the switch was made. And what a fortuitous switch it was! To start, the lobby is amazing, both architecturally and owing to the hot […] vibe of most of the people in it (the energy on Saturday night was infectious). The room was even better. It was quiet, comfortable, incredibly roomy, and the epitome of sleek and modern artistry. The lighting could be set to be soft and romantic or highly functional. The bathroom was so big that you could almost get lost in it! The crisp "whiteness" of it was stunning. In truth, this place is too nice to be "public" and should be limited to being "private"! We had wanted to try it for years...we will definitely go back whenever we can! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great service and attention to details"
As one would expect from an Ian Schrager hotel, the service was excellent and the attention to detail was superb (down to the way the continental breakfast was delivered in the morning and the availability of warm cookies and milk in the afternoon). While the lobby and restaurant bars are beautiful, the rooms lean toward minimalist. Clean and nicely […] appointed but minimal. A very hip looking and feeling hotel. "Chic Updates, Fabulous Hotel"
Had a wonderful stay at Public - I've been in the hotel when it used to be The Ambassador and I am blown away by the amazing renovation and redesign of the lobby, Pump Room and guest rooms. We used to live around the corner, so it was perfect for our return stay in the city. Concierge was very accomodating and drinks at the Library bar can't be beat. […] Guests should remember the hotel is an older building so rooms are on the smaller side, as are the bathrooms. Definitely comfortable, worth the stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The only issue I had was the loud heater in my room that sounded like a construction crew was was running maintenance in my room. It was cold outside so I was glad for the heat but the noise made it hard to sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hidden Gem of the Gold Coast"
The Public Hotel is one of the hidden gems of Chicago. My wife and I booked this hotel using Expedia's Unpublished Rates. In the past we have had good luck and bad luck in the hotel that was chosen. This time around I think the Hotel Gods were shining upon us. As you first walk in the lobby there is an air of sophistication that envelops you, from […] the visual appointments to the hotel staff, the hotel gives off this vibe. The Public Hotel being one of the older historical hotels, there was a little trepidation that the rooms would be shoebox size. Upon approaching the room I noticed there wasn't a key slot for the room key. Instead of your traditional key slot the lock is operated via RFID. You just hold the key within close proximity of the sensor and the door unlocks. As my wife and I first walked in the room both of us were taken aback. This couldn't be the room that an Unpublished rate provided, we both thought to ourselves. We hurried inside before we thought anyone might catch the mistake. The room was a suite, with a very chic living area completely styled in all white. Next to the living area was our sleeping quarters equally decked out in all white with LED accent lighting. Upon checkout the next morning I didn't want to leave. I was ready to spontaneously book another night.....than my wallet quietly reminded me to sit down. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"By FAR the best hotel I've stayed at for its price"
Upon checking in, we were immediately upgraded to a corner suite (for free), and the desk staff was even nice enough to loan us an iPhone charger. The room was modern, clean and spacious, with a huge bathroom and walk-in closet. It's in a wonderful part of the city, close to shopping and the lake, and our room had a beautiful view of the loop. We had […] great drinks (and some of the best calamari I've ever had) at the Pump Room on the ground floor, and coffee in bed first thing in the morning...overall the service and accommodations were excellent, and the best I've ever experienced in their price range. I definitely know where I'm staying whenever I'm in Chicago! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Top Notch Service"
First time at this hotel, although we travel to Chicago often & typically stay in the Loop area. "WOW. Perfect."
I design high-end hotels and this is in the top-5 best boutique hotels I've experienced. Mr. Shrager runs a wonderful outfit. The service, staff, cleanliness, fitness room, bars, lounges, and adjoining restaurant are all top-notch. I love that the restaurant (Pump Room) offers take-away service in addition to stellar room service so you can take a picnic […] to nearby Lincoln Park on their complimentary bikes. My only complaints are (1) no pools, spas, or saunas, and (2) the bathrooms are a bit small and underwhelming, but this is perhaps to be expected in an older building like this. I will definitely stay here again. Totally worth the cost. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Incredibly Chic"
Wished we could have stayed longer and been minus the kids. Would have been a perfect distention for a weekend getaway with girlfriends or a romantic one with husband. Lobby design was awe inspiring. "Much more lively than old hotel"
Ian Schrager's got it down. His concept of "the party's in the lobby" is very evident here. We have stayed at both the Ambassador East and the Public now. Sadly, the Ambassador's days were over. A sleepy quiet place to stay. The Public is hopping with 3 bars in the lobby and is always crowded. It's the new place to see and be seen. Unfortunately, it's […] not our cup of tea. We like sleepy old hotels. We're not "in with the in crowd." But if you are one of the beautiful people, we highly recommend checking into this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very, very nice!"
The hotel was wonderful - an understated mix of traditional architecture and contemporry furnishings. The service was top notch, and advice from the concierge right on target. Our room was clean, bright and comfortable, the bathroom was clean and well-appointed. I would definitely stay at Public Chicago again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"like being on a movie set"
Great place, history but updated. Rooms a little small, but that's how it is in the city. Tell you what, I'm either a hideous goblin, or that hotel just has only super pretty people working there. I mean every single person on staff looked like they were just back from a GQ shoot.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect in every way"
Our overnight stay was excellent from every aspect. The hotel staff was professional as well as extremely friendly. The room was not huge, but when you are in such a great location, the last place you should be is in you room. "Great for a couple"
Went for the weekend with my boyfriend and very pleased. The hotel had a "Vegas" feel to it because there was a restaurant and bar downstairs, lots of people coming and going. "Great Location/Fabulous Service"
I have been going to this hotel for a long time...It used to be the Omni Ambassador East and it was nice then......Then it changed to just "Ambassador East" and stayed there a couple of times with the last time being not so good...things in disrepair, no ice in the machines, not great service and accomodations were seriously lacking........we decided […] to try it again due to the location being perfect for what we needed and boy am I glad we did! The renovations to it are awesome, our room was extremely clean and updated, service was fabulous from Sal at the Valet desk, to the front desk people...just a great surprise to see the improvements!
