"Don't Stay Here"
College dorm style rooms. Tiny bathrooms. The bathroom was so small I couldn't sit straight on the toilet. The shower was smaller than a broom closet. NO CABS!!! It took me 45 minutes to get a cab! Room service was decent, but expensive. I won't be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not for business trips."
I stayed at Public for 2 nights for a business trip. Although, most of the hotel is pretty good - it was clean, good service, comfortable room, etc., there are a few reasons why I wouldn't stay here again. First, this hotel is what you might call a "cool" hotel - it is sceney and is loud at night. People would come here to have a drink at the cool […] bar and restaurant. However, I was here on business, and this hotel, while cool, is not business-friendly at all. It wasn't on a busy street, so there were no cabs available. Both mornings, I wasn't able to get a cab. The hotel's house car had to drop off me as well as everyone else who were waiting for a cab to their destinations. I was a little late to my meeting. Second, there is nothing close by the hotel. No restaurants, no stores to window shop at, no cabs driving by the streets, etc. - it is not in a convenient location. Third, there are only 2 elevators. When I was there, only one elevator was working. So, it was a long wait for the elevator. The worst is when I missed it going down and had to watch it go up one floor at a time and then come down one floor at time until it reached my floor. This type of elevator service really seem to belong at a 2 star hotel than a 4 star hotel. So, all in all, I will not recommend Public to anyone going to Chicago for business and I will not stay here again. However, if you are there with a group of friends and you are in your 20s or 30s, then I guess it is an okay place to stay at. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Needs a little work"
Wanted to see how the fabled old Ambassador East and The Pump Room had fared with the remodel. The TV didn't work, the air conditioning was extremely noisy and the water flow from the faucet was a trickle. The positive side was a caring and helpful staff and a bar scene full of energy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Last time"
I was having dinner at the Pump Room and figured I would stay at the Public. Big mistake. For the rate I paid I expected to have a room with a bathroom of at least adequate size, if not necessarily spacious. The bathroom was ABSOLUTELY PITIFUL. It was as if they had to shoe horn a shower, toilet and sink into the room. It was smaller than almost any […] bathroom I have had in Europe. I would NEVER stay here again. The Pump Room restauarant was very good at least. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"PUBLIC Chicago beautiful hotel but staff not great"
I was really excited to stay in this new hotel, although the setting is very impressive the staff were really unhelpful. We wanted to have dinner or breakfast but the restaurant was full that evening. We then decided to have breakfast the next morning so left our room just after 11. We were then told the breakfast had finished when it stated it ran […] until 11.30 The people at reception were very unhelpful and knew no explanation of why they stopped it early. The satff seemed clueless. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
