This hotel is the perfect location. I thought the staff was very friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. "Incredibly noisy, no apologies!"
I was awaken at about 8h30 by drilling and jack hammers on the floor just below my room. At 2pm, I couldn't take it anymore and left the hotel because the drilling was still going on. I'm told the noise continued constantly until 4pm. The next morning, the work continued (different noises this time). The hotel did not inform guests before hand, and […] certainly did not apologize for the massive inconvenience. I was holding a conf call with people all over the world and had to mute the mic on my end because it was disturbing everyone (jokes were made that they thought I was staying in Baghdad). This was one of the most unwelcoming hotels I've ever booked. Finding it, let alone the parking was a challenge. In order to get from the parking lot to the hotel guests must make like a mountain goat and climb a steep, tall exterior staircase - woe to the person who attempts this in inclement weather. When I called in my reservation, I was told that 2 rooms with 2 double beds would be sufficient for 6 adults. I figured the 5th and 6th person would get free cots, but this was not the case. "Covenient to Merchandise Mart but unimpressed"
I travel frequently to Chicago to do business at the Merchandise Mart. In the winter, staying at this Holiday Inn is so convenient and the price is reasonable. The main lobby and lounge are decently decorated. However the guest rooms are not up to par for a downtown hotel. You feel like you are staying at 2 star hotel off the interstate in Indiana. […] I made the mistake of ordering room service once, and for $38 it was absolutely horrible. Chicago has way too many great restaurants to waste your time and money eating here. But aside from the lackluster rooms and bad food, the most irritating and disappointing thing about staying here is the apathy and unfriendliness of the people working at the front desk. It's not just one, but rather everyone I have dealt with (have stayed here more than 10 days on 3 different trips). I woundntp say anyone has crossed the line with rudeness, but no one has ever made me feel welcome to be there or given the impression that they like their job. Management needs to take a hard look at who they hire and try to find people who actually like working in the 'Hospitality' industry.
