"Better of elsewhere"
It's 2013; Asking me to pay for the internet ($10 a day) is absurd. The staff was less than cordial and all seemed as unhappy to be there as I soon was. Have stayed previously at The Hotel Felix and will be returning there from now on. Too many Hotels to choose from to deal with nonsense.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, Bad others"
Everything is bad except for the location. If you just want a place for a sleep and you can afford to pay $50 for overnight parking then this the right hotel for you.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was awful. The hotel is under major renovation. Half of their services don't exist as a result. You have entered the hotel through the restaurant. It was not a pleasant stay at allGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"HORRIBLE"
Never, ever stay here! It is old, rundown and dirty! There was a hair in my drinking glass, a used kleenex in the room when we checked in and the furniture was old and tattered. Please, do NOT stay here!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for business travelers and families."
The staff was excellent. Immediately addressing issues and providing excellent service with a smile. The room was large and very comfortable. We also had a great view of Chicago.Genuine Expedia guest review
"don't stay here"
Going through renovations that are sorely needed. Not a nice place to stay nor worth the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, terrible room"
The room seemed nice, but the air conditioning didn't work. No matter where you placed the temperature it wouldn't go below 72. The plumbing was terrible. The water pressure was low and inconsistant. The hot water would just go away and return randomly. The faucet handle for the shower was loose and felt like it would come off in your hand. The staff's […] solution to the problem was to move us to another room, but when we returned from the days activities there were no rooms to move to. Luckily they refunded our money for the majority of the stay, but I would think twice before going there or at least check the AC and the shower when you first check in. "Running Water?"
Call me crazy, but running water is a requirement for me in a hotel. When taking a shower the water would just shut off completely after a few minutes. After standing there soaking wet with soap in your eyes the water would start again, only to stop again a few minutes later. The water in the sink would also stop in the same way. The staff was very […] nice and moved us to another room. The other room was bigger, but the toilet would not flush. I would not stay here again because it is clearly not well maintained. I think the hotel needs to be up-dated. Our room was very small, and the window looked at a wall, which made it very dark. The chairs were very old, no cushions, and no bathrobes. Just would not stay there again. The only good thing was the nicest doorman ever!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Worst"
The hotel rrom was terrible!! The bathroom ceiling was sinking in and they was drywall coming off the walls in the bathroom. When I tried to use the sink the handles of the faucets came off!! The hotel room itself was in very poor condition and in my opinion almost unliveable. It was hard to sleep in the bed with looking at the room surroundings. There […] were holes in the bed sheets as well as in the window draperies. One of the drapes would not even move to get llight into the room. The sliding closet door was broke and was not accessible for use. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Unfriendly staff, rude management, subpar rooms"
We found few vacancies when booking a last minute trip to Chicago, and decided to treat ourselves to the only non-airport motel available, the 4-star Whitehall. It was a splurge, but we looked forward to the luxury amenities. When we arrived, renovations were clearly underway. Our room was very shabby- obviously, this room had yet to be renovated. […] There was mold in the shower, a broken lamp, and the TV armoire door fell off when I opened it. The quality of this 4-star room was far worse than a big chain property. We were also surprised that the advertised “internet in all rooms” costs $10 a day. A nice letter on the desk said the hotel was under renovation and asked us to call a manager with any complaints. We called the manager to explain our dissatisfaction with the room but were immediately and rudely dismissed. The only solution he offered was to stay elsewhere (understanding that we’d be charged for one day). We contacted other hotels but found no vacancies. We were stuck. During our trip, no staff members greeted us, asked about our stay, or opened a door for us, though there were always doormen standing by chatting together. We felt unwelcome for the length of our stay. Oh, and our notes for this review were missing from the room after housekeeping. To top it off, we were charged twice for our stay at the Whitehall. After two days of unreturned calls and repeatedly being left on hold and forgotten, I had to ask Expedia to help me reach the hotel. Oy. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Don't pay full price. Convenient location. Lacking"
I purchased my room, then I got to see the hotel. I was disappointed to say the least. It is not a 4 star in my books. If I had paid full price, I would have cancelled my reservations. It was very dated, 2 small elevators for a 20 story hotel. the location was GREAT! I will book well in advance next time, so I can catch a sale on another hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"One and out"
Hotel needs carpet, paint and some new furniture. The employees need to be more helpful and should try smilng now and then The elevators are so small you might have to wait two or three times in order to get on. Great location but I would look to the other hotels in that area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a good choice"
This hotel is very dated. The rooms have old televisiions (Zenith's) that do not work properly--we had to call maintenance 3 separate times in 4 days and they finally had to replace the set (with another Zenith) in order for us to be able to see all of the channels...none of which were in HD. The toilet would get stuck on flush and we had to call maintenance […] to come and repair that. But the really bad part was the hotel front desk staff. The front desk manager tried to charge us for the third night of our reservation that we had already pre-paid through www.hotels.com. Don't stay at the Whitehall, they seem to be like a property that is going down the tubes and not able to spend money on nice room amenities or knowledgeable/polite front desk staff. "Disgusting!!!!!!"
I was excited to stay at this hotel until I arrived. I entered my room and could hear the people next door. That didn't bother me as much as the thick, forest green carpet that smelled funny. I turn the knob on the bathroom door and much to my surprise...it was sticky. The door was broken and wouldn't close. The sliding closet door was broken too. I […] set my cell phone on the bedside table and I noticed someone spilled coffee all over the wall. Shouldn't they have cleaned that? I immediately lifted the sheets off the mattress and checked for bugs. I didn't find any, but that didn't help me sleep any better in this disgustingly filthy room. Room service? No, they have local businesses deliver. The business center is a cubical with 3 desks. No fax, so I took the tiny elevator down to the lobby. "I need to fax something, can you help me?" I say with a smile. "What are you faxing?" He asks. Instead of saying NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS, I show him a folder and say "Uh, this." I was faxing 3 pages. With a smirk on his face he replies with, "Well it's .75 a sheet." WHAT? "Really, most hotels will fax things for no charge." As I am turning to walk away he then states "Really, I have worked at 3 hotels and we all charge for that. Where have you stayed? You can go to kinko's or the Fed Ex store, I think they will charge .50 a sheet." I went to the front desk later that day and faxed my 3 sheets of paper for free. Stay away from the desk in the corner. They are RUDE. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Uncomfortable ."
I don't wanna come back again to this hotel never again. The manager Carlos show a bad attitude in the check in. The bed is very uncomfortable. - The elevator is very small and slow. The bed very uncomfortable and really hold. The bathroom had heard on the roof. TVs are really old. This hotel looks like only 2 stars.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Construction in lobby. Terrible noise. Extremely small lobby, and no services. 2 tiny elevators going up and lines to get in elevators always. Dark hallways, very dated rooms, old tv, etc. Would never go back.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Run! Don't stay at thsi hotel."
There is NO way this is a 4 star property. Elevator broken, rooms so tiny you couldn't turn around. Horrible luggage pile up in lobby for over 6 hours, tiny bed with fake fur throw on a 90 degree day.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Not Impressed, DO NOT STAY HERE"
I would not recommend staying at this hotel. They were not accommodating what so ever. No room service at night, cheap towels, the bed was so uncomfortable, and the manager Derrick is rude and passive aggressive. This hotel should not be a four star hotel. This was the WORST experience I have ever had. They DO NOT tell you ahead of time that they will […] take a 50.00 per day surcharge and then tell you it could take up to 30 days to have it back in your account. "Stay Somewhere Else"
This Hotel has a terrific location and that is the only pro I would give it. Surly door men who do not even bother to open doors half the time and often let it slam in your face. No room service, no coffee available til 7am for business travelers, furniture and carpet torn up. Took 20 minutes to get ice, broken safe never fixed, phone did not work, […] windows in 32 degree weather left open that required maintenance. Towels like they came out of a youth hostel. "Whitehall Hotel--the Hotel that Time Forgot"
An ancient Zenith TV, no cable stations, fuzzy picture. Both desk and bedside table with scratches and bumps, like rummage sale furniture. Bath mat had loose threads on the edge. Worn out? Not even a note pad with pen. No continental breakfast, only free coffee. If you want breakfast, you pay for it. Tiny elevators; in one, one tile had chips out of […] it. Can't close drapes so early morning light streams in through sheer curtains. Bottom sheet had small darned spot. Haven't seen darning since my mother darned my father's socks 70 years ago. Staff at front desk not overly friendly, nor were staff in dining room at breakfast. In hindsight, I should have upgraded to another hotel with a few more amenities. "Should be a 2 star hotel"
Our room had ripped carpeting and a window that would not close. The shower curtain rod fell and we could not get it back up. Hotel was very worn and tired looking. Bad service at the front reception desk. Only positive was the location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"disappointed"
Downgraded our room because we booked through a 3rd party from a king size bed to a full. Claimed it was an upgrade because it was on a higher floor. Pretty shady.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Skip The Whitehall Hotel"
The only positive thing about this hotel is it's location to shop on Michigan Ave. There was no ice machine, no soda machine, no microwave anywhere the price I had to pay for a two night stay was really pricey for a bare bones hotel. If u don't mind waiting 10 min everytime for the elevator which can barely hold 3 people then the elevator attendant […] wants a tip, just skip the Whitehall Hotel. I do not know how this place received a 4 star rating! Very disappointed - high priced - could have stayed at a number of other places in same location, same price and much better all around quality!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"4 Stars......"
....maybe a 1/2. Old, tired, threadbare, zero customer service. Called twice for additional towels (only 3, there were two of us) finally hadt to go down and get them myself. Paper thin and felt like sandpaper. For what they charge you would think internet could be provided, or maybe in room coffee, or a break on parking ($48 additional by the way). Room […] furnishings threadbare. Chairs were broken, post on bed fell off, you had to climb on the window sill to close drapes and even then they didn't close all the way. Tv's older than dirt. "Tired Whitehall"
The staff was very nice. Other than that I cannot say anything else nice about this hotel. Being a frequent business traveler to Chicago I have tried numerous hotels, all in the price range of this hotel. None offer as little in terms of guest amenity, not even a clock or accessible outlets to charge a cell phone.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Price is reasonable for the room. everything else is super expensive,, beginning with all services (not provided) which are normally provided complementary everywhere else.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Whitehall Hotel in Chicago"
The room temperature was difficult to regulate. Either too cold or too hot. The covers on bed were unsatisfactory. They were too heavy and warm for summer. And one day had no hot water and no one from hotel told us about it until I called front desk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Where do I start."
really bad service and the hotel needs a redo. The hot water went out for one day. Had to wait for ice to be brought to the room after making 3 calls each day to finally get ice. To sum it up really BAD THIS TIME AND I MAY NOT GO BACK.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel needs to be closed down for upgrade & Johsh"
The worst hotel I have stayed in my life, it'd be categorized as 1-star motel....I reserved kings' room and was kept on the 4th floor where construction and repairs were taking place outside. Loud noise would not let me prep for my scientific conference the following day. Requested for a change, and a staff was really a jewel, she changed to higher […] floor but a queen size room with a promise to straighten things out in the am. Then there was another bad staff, he would not understand why the change and very rude at front desk. Telephone set in my room did not work the first night, took technician 30mins to fix, and caused my family to panic because they could not reach me....had a locked fridge in room even though I requested for a fridge for the room. Very unorganized hotel staff and grossly rude staff to make it worse...I'll never stay there even for free.....Chinese restaurant was good and a respite.... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
