"Not the best"
When I booked this hotel, the rating was 4 out of 5 stars...well it's more like a 2 out of 5 stars. Our first room was on the second level and had no air flow from the window as it sat above the mini courtyard for the hot tub (there is NOT a pool here) the noise from the street traffic was terrible. We visited late April, Santa Cruz was cool and breezy...but […] we were in a room having to run an air conditioner because of the noise. I switched our room, which was considerably cooler in general...but there was no screen on the window and the hotel staff was not concerned about replacing it. We've stayed here before and would stay here again, however this last stay was a nightmare. There was a complaint about smoking in our room, which there wasn't any due to my wife being 7 1/2 months pregnant and I'm in a hotel room duh,well what had happened was I was sitting on my vapor pen unknowingly and it had been going off in my pocket, front desk […] clerk came to inform me of complaints and that I was being charged for the smoking fee, even after I explained. After talking to desk clerk he told me that I was being charged but was still allowed to stay. Well when we got back in at 2:30 am after a concert the security guard informed us that we had to leave. So now not only have I paid in full for a room I can't stay in I'm also getting charged 368 on top of that. I came back in the morning to explain what happened and contest the charge with the manager, who was a great manager, and she totally understood and went to check the room herself, she said that there would be no extra charge for smoking because she could tell we hadn't been smoking and understood about my pen being accidentally turned on. I will definitely return I love the place but just really sucks that we even had to go through all of that and with my wife being pregnant that really added to my irritation level, and I still paid for a room that we didn't get to stay in. "Bad staff makes clean hotel a bad stay"
The hotel was clean and in a good location, but the staff was so disappointing that I will never stay here again. Not sure if it's bad staffing or under staffing, but upon arrival we had to wait almost 15 minutes to check in. Check in is at 3pm and we arrived after 4pm. Lots of people were sitting around waiting for their rooms which were not yet ready. […] Luckily our room was ready to occupy and was mostly clean, but there were a few hairs on the floor behind the bathroom door. We asked for a bottle opener and they explained that they did not because people do not return them. My suggestion is to buy them in bulk, because a Best Western Plus should have such things available to their guests. When we returned to the hotel that night we could not get the electronic key to work at the front door, and had to knock on the door until a unhappy employee let us in barking at us that we should have used another door. Put a sign up if that door should not be used at night! At check out we had to wait another 15 minutes for an employee to finally show up at the front desk. "Poor maintenance"

Unfortunately, woke in morning with small cluster of what looked like bug bites on elbow. Noticed mattress not enclosed, only thin flat pad with flat sheet on top. Pillows not enclosed, only pillow case. Mattress bit worn as well. Checked in Friday. Saturday night no parking available. Parked 2 blocks away. Heard other guest had same problem. "Sleepless in Santa Cruz"
The design of the room is flawed. Who put's a skylight over the sleeping area and then have a broken blind to block the early morning sunlight? The queen beds are a full sized beds and no way near a standard queen. The toilet has the loudest flush I have ever heard. The sound was so loud that it hurt my ears to flush. "Best Western All Suites Inn"
Although the room was large, with all of the amenities of a suite, there were some major problems. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable...so much so that I slept on the couch the second night of our stay. The other issue was the heater/air conditioner.
