Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Austin-North

Short drive to UT campus and many commercial services, shopping, and restaurants. Neighborhood to the west is run down, but we have never had or seen a problem in four stays. Property is clean and well maintained. The suites comfortably sleep three or four, especially if only two adults.

The hotel itself was nice. Room was very spacious and comfy. Complete with fridge and microwave, a big plus for me. But it just felt overall like the building could have used some updating and attention. Also the neighborhood surrounding is a little sketchy. We didn't have any trouble, but not so sure I would've gone walking around much. Lastly, and […] I think several others have stated this as well, the traffic and road layouts around here are a little confusing. Twice we missed getting off where should have and had to back track. Overall was okay, but the room was hot I have to go to wal mart to get a fan because my kids were hot. Breakfast NOT GOOD!!! waffler machine was dirty with a burning waffle and the attendan not even try to cleaned.

The room was clean but smelled of mildew. We had a non-smoking room, yet I kept catching whiffs of stale smoke, not over powering, just whiffs. The staff was friendly and helpful. The neighborhood was scary. We probably will not choose this hotel for our next visit to Austin.

Thank you for the great service provided at Country Inn & Suites! It was honestly one of the best stays I've had at a hotel. My only comment is that we'd asked for a sofabed/cot when we booked the hotel, but upon our arrival we were told we couldn't get one. Later, in the hotel book, we noticed that we could get a rollaway bed for an additional cost, […] which we would have done, but it wasn't an issue anymore anyway. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel does feel a bit dated but furniture is relatively new. Staff is very friendly. Hotel's location is somewhat close to downtown but don't leave anything out in your car or truck.

The outside of the hotel looked a bit run down, poor landscaping and poor paint. We were a bit worried. Our GPS system took us through the back streets of the hotel. That neighborhood was very run down and rough looking. In fact, our hotel room faced the back towards the neighborhood. The inside of the hotel, thankfully, was a tad better than the outside. […] They defintely are in need of some renovations -- new carpet, paint, etc. The service was okay. The beds in the room were comfy and the rooms were quite large. The ac kept turning off during the night, which woke both my husband and I up, it got warm so we had to take off the comforter and sheets to get some cool air about 3 times during the night. We didn't get much rest because of that. The shower head was very cool. It rotated. Never seen that before. The elevator worked fine. Our breakfast was okay. They had some nice biscuits but no gravy for them. The waffle maker was being used so much, we never had the chance to try one but they looked good. We think the eggs were the powdered kind. The sausage was good. Overall, we'd stay again if we got a muc better rate. We feel we over-paid for our one night stay. I hope this was helpful. Read more

This hotel faced the highway and had residential homes behind it. It was very quiet and the rooms were large, beds very comfortable, great bathroom. Room was very clean. About 5 to 10 minutes from downtown and in a nice area of town, which was really close to everything. We had a wonderful stay and the employees at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. Beds were comfortable. Will stay here again when we visit Austin!

Main doors to lobby should be automatic. It was so difficult trying to open doors while pulling luggage and hitting stuff. Also got locked out of my room cause key didn't work. Air conditioner was so close to the bed my leg was freezing all night. Breakfast was fine, but eggs were horrible.

The place itself wasn't too bad. the rooms were okay. The neighborhood was not too safe looking, did not want to walk outside. The breakfast buffet was pretty fair- tator tots, eggs, pastries. People at the front were fast and friendly.

We asked the maid to return in half an hour because we were not ready to vacate the room and she never returned, since we did not return to the room until way after 5:00 p.m. all maids had left and we had to sleep in unmade beds. The night clerk did bring us fresh towels. Other than that the hotel was excellent for the price.

I reserved a room for 3 people. A double but when we arrived we were given a room for a handicap person. My daughter slept on a roll away bed. The bathroom was great for a person in a wheel chair. I made my reservations with ample time to ensure that we got the room we wanted, but we didnt. NO I wouldn't stay there again.

We were able to find a place to stay that would accomadate a family of 5 with one room close to downtown Austin for a very good price. We didn't spend much time in room or at the hotel. Breakfast was standard and fresh. Overall stay wsa nice.

The hotel is scummy and old. Needs to be updated. Carpets were dirty, room was humid and bed covers felt humid and dirty, bathroom didn't have a fan. Is not worth for the money, Country Inn and Suites has much better hotels that this one. It was very disappointing, cleaning people were very friendly the neighborhood is not good and your cars stay outside, […] the reception people couldn't give us directions how to get there and over the weekend they didn't wear uniform. "Kevin" was the only front desk staff member who seemed friendly and interested in being there. We stayed several nights and he always tried to help with questions or requests. For some strange reason, the breakfast buffet did not have any fresh fruit during our entire stay... we wondered why the Manager didn't bother to bring or send any even after […] daily requests. The hotel is beside I-35 so it has noticeable traffic noise at all times. Even in our room on the 'back' there was a constant drone. We like the window open for fresh air and since we were on the second floor, this seemed to be a safe idea. The neighborhood is residential, but a little rough looking (junk and old vehicles in some yards)and we were awakened by a rooster every day. Downtown is a short way down the Interstate, but traffic was stop-and-go mornings until after 9:30. Applebee's and Buffalo Wings restaurants are a block away and you can walk along a dirt path (no sidewalks) to get there. Don't be alarmed if there are several State Police cars in the parking lot when you arrive as they are "on course" at a nearby training facility and using the hotel during their stay. Overall, the value was good for the money and the room was very nice, but if we were touring Austin again, we would stay downtown for convenience. Read more
