The hotel may have been short-staffed as they were short of cleaned rooms at 3pm. They gave me a room - allegedly cleaned - while others were still waiting for their rooms to come available. Walking into the room it looked fine, nice layout, small kitchen, relatively stylish look and properly laid out king-size bed. "Budget hotel in the center of it all"
What you see is what you get. I read this in a previous review and would agree. It is nothing special. It is a budget minded hotel in an awesome location. I also wanted the free wi-fi...which they do have. If you just need a bed to sleep in, want the convenience of doing some cooking in your room, be close to the action, and visiting on a shoe string...this […] is your place. Just be fore-warned...if you want your room cleaned daily with fresh towels it will cost $3/day extra. I did not see this anywhere until day 2 (on a sign at the front desk). It was not noted on the website, no one mentioned it to me at check-in. It was just me for 3 nights, so I didn't really care...maybe even liked not having someone come into my room while I was not there. I could make my bed & re-use my towel...I do this at home. No big deal to me. But to another guest it may be, so I mention it here. The bed was very uncomfortable & worn, though. For this reason I will not stay again. I have a hard time tuning out the noise in the hall and sleeping in an unfamiliar bed, to have that bed be uncomfortable is a huge negative, hence the rating of a 1 on comfort. "CAREFUL not a good experience!"
This hotel is a extended stay, then they do not have housekeeping services for staying less that 7 days but they do not put this information in the web site, you learn this until you get into the hotel. This means that if you want new towels or soap you have to go to the lobby to get them. The toilet on my room get broke and their solution was: "try […] to shake the handle, and see if this works", instead of sending someone to take a look. One day they do not have soap and the best they can offer was "we do have shampoo" instead of go and find some soap. "Watch out for Bed Bugs..."
I recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and have come home with quite a few small 'bites' all over my body. After a visit to the doctor to find out about these marks, I was advised it was from bed bugs. And the only location where I had slept for the days prior was this hotel. So if you choose to stay here, definitely expect to have bed bugs […] attack you. This hotel was very shabby. Carpets are threadbare and this makes them look dirty. No dishwasher or garbage disposal in the room but a huge refrigerator. "The Fire Arlarms work!"
The staff is friendly and that is about the only positive thing I can say about the hotel. The rooms were hot, dried gum on the comforter, mold in the bathrooms, and a fire alarm blaring in the middle of the night. Turns out the fire alarm was a false alarm, but I was told while we all waited outside at 3:30 in the morning that this isn't the 1st time […] this happened(occurred a month ago as well). The hotel was poorly maintained and at the second night a wall lamp in the second floor ignited and generated a fire. What kind of hotel is so poorly maintained that a wall lamp ignites? Recognizing that this is a cheap place, I was there five days and they never changed my towels or sheets or straightened up the room at all. The room was dirty. I even had to get them to empty the trash from the last person. I thought since there were dishes there would be something to wash dishes with, nothing. I did not use the coffeepot, old coffee grounds were left in the pot so that tells me the pot was not washed after the last person. In the bathroom the grout in the tiles was balck […] from mildew. Good location in downtown Austin. Hotel rooms have a small kitchen which is great if you have time to prepare meals and cook. The beds were harder than plywood. The bathroom only came with soap. "Okay for a place to stay one night."
We had no big problems with our hotel there were just a few little things. When we arrived to our hotel room the phone didn't work, which was not a huge problem because we didn't need to use it. But then at 3:00 AM our fire alarm started going off while we were sleeping for no reason at all. So we couldn't call down to the front desk, we had to go down […] there. It woke everyone else on our floor up so they were all out of their rooms and some of them had gone down to complain at the front desk. It took a little while to fix but they don't even know how they stopped it. It was a good place to crash for the night and it was close to Sixth Street which is where we had gone that night.
