The Rio Grande and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains shape Taos’ rugged environment. Both geographic features are main tourist attractions. In the summer, rafters take to the river; in the winter, skiers flock to nearby ski resorts. North of town, the Taos Pueblo is a National Historic Landmark and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of its adobe structures were built between 1000 and 1450.

This was a repeat visit and it lived up to my expectations. Bathrooms, especially bathtubs could be better.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"We got what we paid for at the Kachina"
The outside appearance is nice but the facility is run down, dirty and in overal decline. The staff was very nice. The "FREE" breakfast was interesting where it was unattended by any staff to clean the tables or maintain the seating area as the morning wore on. We ate at the restaurant down the street every morning . We got what we paid for... I will […] never stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good for the price"
The hotel was in a conveinient area, and the bed was comfy. The problems we had was we tried to check in a little early to our room and the not so friendly staff told us that we could not check until 3pm. So we came back slightly after 3pm and we were told that our room was still not ready, and we would have to wait. We told them that we needed a room […] asap and they said they would put us into a different room which was great, but upon arriving to our room we found dirty clothes wadded up in the window seal and also dirty razors in the bath tub which led me to believe that the room and not been cleaned. Again it was a comfy bed and a good nights sleep which is all that matters, but they could really beef up on their housekeeping. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient"
60s motor inn, quiet, clean but dated. Hot breakfast included from limited menu. Within walking distance from plaza. Rooms & bathrooms large.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We booked ahead, and thought it was a Best Western. Only a few rooms available, clean and open, We went to our room and my wife could barely breath due to the musty and damp conditions. We went to the front desk and asked to have our room changed. Initially we were told they had no more rooms. I said we were leaving and they told us we could not get […] our deposit back. The other two couple had tried to move as well but were unable to and it was late. After the front desk made a phone call to someone we were put into another room. The heat was on and it was clean. In the morning we went to the restaurant and had a lovely full breakfast. The waitress was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the only positive point of this hotel. We are a group of three couples who would not stay at this place on our next time to Taos unless major renovations/ upgrades were made. We have stayed on this trip in 13 hotels and this was the worst, too bad as the area was lovely and we met some nice people there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could have been better"
The room was not ready upon arrival, the people prior staid late. The TV was still on when we walked into the room....a dirty wash rag was left on top of the shower curtain rod and formed to it. There were bugs and cob webs. A chair in the room had NEVER been cleaned there was a stain from peoples heads. It was hot and the heater said it was off. I […] could see that the soap was purchased from best western. Some of the staff that I saw were nice....one did not care about the fact the place was not clean because I have paid for the room prior. It is in a good location for walking into town. "Great spot to stay before skiing!"
100% satisfied with my stay here. Rooms were clean. Everything I wanted in an affordable hotel to get a good night's rest before a day of skiing. The free breakfast in the morning was great too with great service!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Kachina Lodge - Acceptable and convenient"
For the price, it was great! As far as the room goes, everything was fine, except that the pillows were almost too big to be comfortable on my neck. The service was great, but the breakfast, while comp'd, was lackluster. Saturday had a very basic buffet, and Sunday had a menu, but I would not recommend the Spanish omelet to anyone.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Kachina Lodge in Taos ~ easy walking distance"
This was our second time to stay at the beautiful Kachina Lodge in Taos! As usual we were very pleased with the room and the extremely friendly staff. The complimentary full breakfast off of the selected menu is enough to make us come back again and again! I am talking about omelettes, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, etc., and not day-old […] doughnuts and luke warm coffee out of a carafe in the middle of a lobby. Breakfast is served in the warm and lovely Kiva style restaurant. You bet we will stay there again in the future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Deal..."
I only stayed here one night, but everything was acceptable and i would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Understandably there were problems with our room because of the pipes freezing last winter. We were very disappointed, but were compensated. The location was wonderful, and the staff was very polite.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, hotel has some challenges"
We stayed here for the Taos Wool Market. It's a great location within walking distance of not only the Wool Market location but also most of the restaurants and shopping in Taos. Sadly, this hotel seems to have some financial issues though. It appears that they have lost their Best Western affiliation and that very little maintenance is being done. […] The rooms were clean enough but very run-down and there was a significant shortage of towels. There is an entire block of rooms that has been closed since February (this is October) due to a gas leak and needed subsequent renovations. It appears that what they've done is just take the extra beds out of that building and shove them into the rooms in the next building over - making rooms that should be singles into doubles. Overall, the staff was friendly and it was an okay place to stay but prepare yourself for a shabby room. Hopefully whatever is causing the issues will be resolved soon as this is really too great a location for it not to be a nicer facility. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient, quiet location"
We enjoyed being able to walk to the plaza and dinner from our hotel. The staff was very helpful, room was quiet all night, and breakfast was a treat in the "diner." We'll go back for sure. Warning. when looking for the hotel, Best Western is no longer on the sign. As of June, they are no longer connected with Best Western, but the owners and staff […] remain the same. "Kachina Lodge in Taos"
I stayed here over 30 years ago - looks as if the rooms haven't been renovated since, but they seemed to be clean and had all the basic amenities. Our room was right in front of the green plaza - nice. Breakfast is great - never had waitress service with a complimentary breakfast before. Staff is very nice and price is right.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for the Price and Location"
Having been bitten before by attempting to take an economical route in a Taos hotel, I was a little wary of booking this hotel. However, this is definitely a decent value for the price point. The location could not be more convenient to the plaza - within easy walking distance. The rooms are a little tired...they could stand to be updated and renovated, […] but based on my previous experience at a competing hotel in town, and some of the reviews on this site, I expected much worse. The room was comfortable, although the AC struggled...we were better off opening the windows to let in the cool air. The breakfast was a pleasant surprise. At the rate we paid, we were afraid of seeing instant eggs and cold muffins on a buffiet, but the hotel offers guests the opportunity to order from a set menu...the selection was very good. I was pleased with the breakfast and with the friendliness of the coffee shop staff. I would likely stay again and recommend it to my friends if they're willing to give up a little quality for price and location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The best place to stay in Taos"
The room was large and very comfortable; no noise from the busy street in front of the hotel and plenty of parking by the rooms. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the plaza. The restaurant is not the best place to eat; food was rather bland and we had a mouse run by while we were eating. However, the free breakfast buffet was very good. Since […] it was springtime we had a few insect visits in our room...we found a few ants and a yellow jacket. Other than that I would highly recommed this hotel to friends and family. "Best Western Taos"
It is obvious that this is an old hotel badly in need of renovations which are taking place at this time. I think that once the renovations are complete it will be a wonderful facility. The complimentary breakfast is among the most generous I've seen. The staff was very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Best Western Kachina Lodge"
The hotel was very old and dated; it is in need of a complete renovation. The breakfast was very limited with poor, unhealthy choices, and breakfast service was slow. They also advertise free shuttle service to the airport, but this apparenetly is only to Taos (which is really just for private jets), not to ABQ where most people fly in. On the positive […] side, the location is great, near the central square and front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"What a Hole..."
This place is run down, filthy (I mean disgustingly flithy), and the service matches. We arrived with very low expectations and they somehow managed to fail to meet those. Went for the Red River bike rally over Memorial Day weekend. The room had ants, roaches and other insects. One of our fellow travelers said he saw a mouse. The bathroom was disgustingly […] dirty, gobs of dirt in the exhaust fan, the heaters, the toilet was just nasty. The bed was so sunken in the middle my wife and I had to crawl out of it every morning. The A/C worked ok. The pool was foul and the hot tub even worse. The bartender at the lounge tried to over charge me by ringing up my card without first providing me a bill. When I called her on it, she said, "It happens. Can I hook you up with a shot or something?" When I declined and asked her to void the charge and re-run it for the correct amount she became very annoyed, but she did it. Then we went to dinner at the restaurant - it literally took 2 hours for our party to get our food, but the first person was served about an hour in, and the last about 2 hours. The last person was my wife, a vegan, who had ordered pasta primavera without any sauce - it finally arrived with cheese and sauce all over it. We sent it back, and didn't order anything to replace it because we didn't have another two hours... we obviously found other restaurants for breakfast and the rest of our meals while we were in Taos. We're looking forward to returning next year, but we're staying elsewhere - this place is just not fit for humans... I really don't think I'd board my dogs here, let alone stay here myself again. Just plain nasty, dirty, run down and disgusting - and the staff matches the place perfectly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
