The Rio Grande and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains shape Taos’ rugged environment. Both geographic features are main tourist attractions. In the summer, rafters take to the river; in the winter, skiers flock to nearby ski resorts. North of town, the Taos Pueblo is a National Historic Landmark and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of its adobe structures were built between 1000 and 1450.

""Lodge" and "Resort" should be nowhere in the name"
While booking a hotel online, this place seemed like our best option, but this was a: "you get what you pay for" situation minus the fact that we probably payed too much. The room was a decent size, but the layout was quite strange. It smelled and looked dirty. The bathroom was VERY outdated and when we tried to shower, the water wouldn't drain from […] the tub. Also, none of the ice machines worked and the room did not have a fridge, (although the online description told of a fridge). Lastly, during the last night of our stay, someone keyed our vehicle. When considering this dump of a "hotel", just say no. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needs improvement"
Bathroom had no light when I called the front desk I was told there is not one and she would tell maintenance Monday ... Today is Saturday ! I waited for 30 minutes to check in and when I ate breakfast at 9. Am there was no forks or plates and waited an hour for someone to finally put food out!!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"On the North Side of Taos"
Hotel is in a good location if you are going to Red River or Taos Ski Valley. The room's are old but decent. The free breakfast is something and eggs (eg, toast, biscuit, pancakes). The hot tub and pool are in good working order. However, I'd stay somewhere, especially if you have your wife with you.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Can walk to Plaza"
Good location, can walk to Plaza, Adobe Bar. Slow bathtub drain and toilet seat that wouls not stay up were irritating. Good rates.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Really like this hotel"
Stayed during off season so it was sparsely occupied, which was nice. The room we got was reasonably priced and large, with a shared balcony. Located on the north side of Taos, which we liked. Have stayed here before and will stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location"
The location was great and for the price, the hotel wasn't bad. The included breakfast was blah at best. Some of the amenities were not available to us when we got there. Restaurant closed at 8:00 pm, hot tub not available as there was no security. I realize this was off season, but it seems they could at least stay open for posted hours.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"room was cool...."
Our room was nice. Good thing it wasn't winter. Went to the lounge located inside the main office and it was pretty run down. Bartender sent guests down the street to a "real" resturant. She said not to eat the food. The location was great. Right at the entrance to Taos Pueblo. Less than a mile to other resturants and the plaza. Location was awesome. […] Room was nice. The place needs some love from somebody. Hahahaha!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The checking in/out staff was far from helpful or friendly. we didn't have basic things like tissue in the room and the room wasn't as clean and nice as it had been in the past. Will not be returning to this hotel!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"tradition counts for return customers..."
The rates were exceptional which means that we can overlook things which might otherwise bother us. Most annoyances were small things such as poor lighting, slow-to-drain sink, no tissues in the bathroom holder, area under the bed had not been vacuumed for quite a while, I'm sure. I think at this stay they were over-whelmed by large groups thus appeared […] to be understaffed. "Hot" breakfast was so bad that we went only one time, then decided that we were deserving of better! Hopefully as the season procedes input from guests will help them get their quality back to what it has been. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfort with little frills"
A clean place ideally located for skiers in town. Very little frills, but nice to have hot breakfast every morning. An older place but a great price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Breakfast"
Was good but, not particularly warm. Also, the one attendant was overwhelmed when most of the bus travelers came to breakfast at the same time. Hard for one person to get coffee to ninety people in a brief time span. The waitress kept her good humor in spite of some demanding patrons.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Kachine Lodge was dissapointing"
The location of the motel is great! Close to sites and shopping, but the overall stay was fustrating and dissapointing. The first room we were in the AC didn't work. We had to change rooms and we were moved to a smoking room, with steps. My husband is handicapped and this made the stay more difficult for him. The sheets were paper thin and the bedspread […] hadn't been washed in a long time. The bath tub was filthy! It looked like they had painted the porceline and it hadn't been cleaned in a months. The overall condition and cleanliness of the room was poor. The free breakfast provided the first day was very good. We were able to order off the menu at the coffee shop located inside the motel. The second day the buffet was suppose to start at 6:30 am., by 7:30 a small amount of eggs and gravey had been put out, but if you weren't the first few in line you were out of luck! My advise is to stay some where else!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Kachina lodge: acceptable"
I spent a weekend at the Kachina Lodge. It was alright. The location is fantastic. There were bugs in the room, which was very gross. Other than that, it was fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Kachina Lodge & Meeting Center Taos, NM"
Room was very clean & the price was quite reasonable considering a (good) free breakfast every AM & complimentary bar drink per day. The staff were very helpful & personable, though they were frequently short staffed. I was impressed with the way the staff dealt with some very difficult guests & the fact that they told me how much they appreciated my […] low maintenance attitude. Being reasonable & nice gets you big dividends here. No need to be hard nosed. The hotel could use up dating, but maintenance was ongoing during our visit. The owner was there daily & was quite visible, with the staff obviously caring for him a great deal. The hotel has apparently been his for many years. The pool & hot tub were both very clean. You can get more modern accommodations, but at twice the price, much further away from the center of town, & without the certain charm that this hotel has. They are no longer a Best Western Lodge & told us so on arrival. Too much cost for too little return in the owner's view. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"What a difference!"
When booking this hotel I had confidence in it and was expecting a very nice hotel. Unfortunately, upon arriving we were told to come back in a couple of hours to check in and that was not a problem. When we came back a couple hours later we were rejected again and then had to return a couple of hours later to finally get our room. The hotel had reserved […] a room right by the pool and kachina dancers and was told to just wait for this room. This was the room we were waiting for all day, however, when we came back the hotel threw us back way in the back and up two flights of stairs and was not the room promised. We had to complain and then wait to be transferred to a room by the pool and dancers. We only stayed in Taos for 3 days and the hotel was ok for what we wanted to do; however, it was very dirty, the front desk ladies were rude, and I would never do it again or tell anybody to go there. This hotel had no regards or thoughts for any of its customers or staff. I honestly could not every go back and stay there, me and my family were very dissapointted and depressed that the hotel was nothing like its pictures or did not live fully up to its expectations. "food"
This hotel has a great outdoor pool and very wonderful Taos pueblo indian dancing. It has a ton of potential in the food arena. The menu is very standard -- I wish they would change it up a little and use the beautiful outdoor patio for dinner. All in all a great place!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Nice extras, especially personal service, which is hard to find nowadays. Restaurant has wonderful food. Great free breakfast. Free Indian dance in the evenings. Nice, clean, large pool. Only complaint was bathroom could have been cleaner, hair in bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The front desk clerk was very rude. They gave us a room way in the back of the hotel. In the morning we had to take a shower with cold water.when checking out the same rude clerk was there.I noticed i was over charged and told her then she got mad and fixed it and threw the paper work .She did not even say thank you.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The Hotel needs to be updated, the air conditioning didn't cool very well, the bathrooms are very dated and small. The grounds also need some TLC.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Kachina Lodge Taos"
I could tell they had new owners. We stayed there last year and the place seemed a little more together and they were trying to please. The toilets were my biggest issue. I do not like plastic seats. They need to change those out foe sure. Otherwise it's a very good value. Love the Native American Dancers. Great location. Just have to know going in […] that it is an older place. "Kachina --Taos, NM"
We were told upon check in that breakfast could be ordered from the menu, but was actually served buffet style-- dirty coffee cup on the table-eggs overcooked-at dinner young lady spilled water on my leg-gave me an empty mustard dispensor-my wife's coffee was so strong as to be undrinkable-room was ok, but need to work harder on food service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beware -- good location but badly needs renovation"
The lobby area, dining rooms and my guest room all were in need of a major update. Carpeting in my guest room was worn out, and the bedsheets were old. Staff was nice enough, but I couldn't wait to depart.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
