The Rio Grande and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains shape Taos’ rugged environment. Both geographic features are main tourist attractions. In the summer, rafters take to the river; in the winter, skiers flock to nearby ski resorts. North of town, the Taos Pueblo is a National Historic Landmark and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of its adobe structures were built between 1000 and 1450.

"Weigh your priorities"
Bed was worn, shower was literally so narrow that if you stand squared off to the shower head, your sides touch both the curtain and the wall. But...room was clean and quiet. Pool was nice and breakfast was a served meal with a menu! Pros and cons...take them as you will.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Cheap stay"
While the hotel was in relatively good shape and the customer service was great, the beds and bedding were in need of replacement. The mattresses were very old and felt like sleeping on a sheet over springs and the pillows were just thicker than the pillow cases. We had to get more pillows and double them up in the pillow cases just to have decent pillows. No […] plastic shower curtain liner was in the shower either. The hotel room was otherwise in good shape and extremely clean. Interesting setup where there are several smaller buildings with about 10 rooms each spread out over the hotel grounds. I think that I would spend a little more to get a more comfortable sleeping arrangement next time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"What happened to the hot tub?"
I have stayed here many times. I was disappointed this trip to find that the bar was closed due to construction although it looked the same as it did a year ago. I was also very disappointed to find that a deck had been built over the hot tub. These are two amenities that I look forward to after a long day of skiing. I will not be staying here again […] on my ski trips. If you don't need a hot tub or a bar, then this is a great place to stay and the price is right. The breakfast is still very good. The staff is very helpful and eager to serve it's customers . We love this place but very disappointed to lose the hot tub. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Brekfast made it worth it"
The beds were very worn. Not a comfortable matress, and the cable was fuzzy. Hot tub was not operational. However, for the price of stay, it was worth it to me. The breakfast service was great, and it was next door to the movie theatre. It was cleaned everyday and restocked. Over all I was satisfied with my stayGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Door had large gaps around it. Screen in bedroom broken. Staff very nice and helpful. Loved the hot breakfast. Hide a bed comfortable - surprise!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Visiting Taos with family"
The rooms of the hotel need some updating and the beds weren't comfortable at all. The pool is nice for kids but the cemented area is SUPER slippery. In the span of 3 minutes I watched 4 kids slip and fall. Our room was clean and the staff was very nice. The breakfast is just a hotel breakfast so nothing great - but it's free! OK. Breakfast serving/seating system is a little unorthodox. Coffee and Tea service was irregular, why not provide a dispenser like everybody else.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Last minute choice"
Hotel could use a major renovation/repair of exterior appearances. The bathroom fixtures were water stained and grout discolored otherwise very clean. Room decor dark and dull but kept clean and in good repair. Very quiet area, staff was very courteous and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean and very adequate."
I was impressed with the cleanliness of the suite but the sofa bed was dreadful with a hole in the upholstery and no support in the bed part. The room was on a grassy courtyard but quite dark. The staff was very nice and we were able to bring along our dog. This is a very reasonable hotel to use as a base for visiting the Taos area.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Good staff, not-so-good accommodations."
The desk staff were very nice and helpful. The lobby looked great, clean, high quality. The room, not so much. Breakfast service was great, food was not. A scuffed and dirty front door that was hard to open and close, a toilet that was obviously not cleaned under the rim, missing switch plates on electrical outlets, bad coffee and bad WiFi. "My stay"
Overall the experience was satisfactory. The front desk clerk was not altogether helpful when asked directions or when we mentioned the mold-like substance on the bath tub. The pool was very large and had enough seating to accomodate everyone that had come to the pool while we were there, however, the water was shockingly cold. The breakfast was amazing. "Excellent service"
The Don Fernando was conveniently located just a couple miles from central Taos. The staff was very friendly, and the room was large, comfortable and quite clean. The included breakfast was one of the best I've ever had with considerable variety as well as good preparation. This is a hotel that clearly has seen better days, but it's been maintained […] reasonably well given the magnitude of the effort in keeping a reasonably large facility in good repair. It had a beautiful indoor pool, and the rates were good. I'd give it a strong recommendation and would certainly stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for"
Hotel is 'good enough'. We wanted something close to downtown Taos and not too expensive. Free wi-fi and excellent breakfast are perks! The room was quiet and had a great view of the mountains! The room is old, however, and so things are stained (bathtub and toilet) and dated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our shower did not work nor was the tub clean. There was black hair in the bottom of the tub. The rest of the room was ok. The air conditioner was too loud!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not bad for the price but...."
This hotel was decent i guess. Upon checkin, everyone was friendly. It's a nice 'campus'-style hotel with lots of hotel room buildings. When first stepping foot in the room though... we instantly noticed that the door doesn't seal correctly as there was dirt and leaves all over. The beds were on their last springs. It was actually more comfortable to […] sleep on the floor. The pool was nice although the cleaning pumps apparently weren't working. Leaves and bugs all over the surface. I guess if we 'had' to stay there again it wouldnt be bad. Might spring up the extra bucks for a nicer room though. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just okay"
It was an okay hotel. Just trying to get into our room was difficult as the handle was a pain and actually broke off when we tried to get in. Wasn't the cleanest and we were told sorry no housekeeping during our stay so we couldn't order extra towels or anything else we might need.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Good Experience"
This hotel was good for our purposes. We were traveling with two children, two adults and a dog, so the price combined with a suite with a separate bedroom and pet-friendly policy was ideal. The breakfast was good. The indoor pool and hot tub were nice. They don't monitor the pool area well, though; both nights we used the pool guests brought alcohol […] into the pool area. The fixtures, furniture and decor are what you would find at a budget motel, but everything worked. Again, if you are staying in Taos with kids or pets and want a less-expensive option, this hotel worked for us. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"I'd stay here anytime."
We enjoyed the order -your-eggs-as-you-like-them breakfast. WOW. THAT was great!!! other hotels you get hard waffles and fake orange juice. Did I mention the oj is real? The staff was friendly and helpful. The room is GREAT for the price and the convenience of the stop light right at the entrance to the hotel. the stop light made it relaxing for us […] to pull into the crazy traffic flow. "A recommended hotel to stay in Taos"
This is a clean hotel that needs renovation, the pool is fantastic and the hotel location is good, because is not in the middle of traffic, but close enough to downtown and the shops and restaurants. The staff is courteous but not very friendly.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Basic accommodation"
Don Fernando needs a bit of work but was an acceptable stay during an overbooked ski weekend in Taos. Like several other hotels it is a long distance from the downtown square, but not the furthest south. And while my room was very large and mostly clean, details suggested the hotel requires some overhaul: the concrete steps to the room were sealed off […] with police tape as they'd cracked and looked dangerous. Bathtub was long-term dirty and needed a replacement seal, couch was threadbare, TV set was from the 1990s but worked. A full-house breakfast rush overwhelmed the staff and meant a limited menu (though breakfast was included). Good pool and hot tub. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Mixed Feelings"
This hotel was probably an excellent place to stay when it was built 30+ years ago but has since been let go a little bit. The place was nice, just needs some updating. The good: The staff was really responsive and very friendly and the breakfast was pretty good too. Also enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub after a day on the slopes. The Bad: There […] was yellow tape blocking some stairs to the 2nd floors on some buildings=scary??? Black mold in a couple of spots in our room and the hot water was unpredictable. Wireless internet was also really unreliable (are they still using B instead of G or N?). You get what you pay for and this was one of the few places left in town in our price range when we booked. If money is tight and you just need a place to sleep and shower....this is the place for you. If you want a place to enjoy and take comfort in...go to a major chain. Overall just average. Second time staying. My son and I travel to Taos for Hockey and stay here because of the price. The breakfast was free in the morning but the buffet ran out of food early. Most of the reviews were quite correct on this hotel. Looks pretty good on the outside and the lobby is very nice. Grounds not too bad. Even had a bar in the hotel. The room was adequate for just a one night stay....traveling through town. The price was even right for the stay...as it would have been fairly expensive in the Taos area for a quality motel. […] The room was about like a motel 6 with a little mold in the bathroom ceiling. Little nervous about leaving things in the car over night.....but everything was fine the next morning. My observance was that the clientele was mostly working men....not tourists. The breakfast could have been a HUGE selling point, but as others had mentioned.....not hot. Most motels do not have eggs, bisquits and gravy, ham, etc. This one did. On the whole...about what we expected from the reviews. Fairly good deal for the money. Would I stay here again....sure...if just needed a place to put my head at night. PS...BTW, the bed was not nearly as good as LQ, etc. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
