"convenient location, nice accomodations"
We liked everything about our stay except for the pool being a bit cold. But we were otherwise very satisfied. Will stay again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great service, extra firm beds"
We arrived ahead of check-in time with our 3 yr old and 16 mth old. We expected to have to wait, but were warmly greeted and told our room was ready; fantastic! The room itself was on the first floor (bummer), facing the pool (no privacy if we wanted to let natural light in by opening the curtains) with two -very- firm queen beds and the Hilton's usual […] "pillow nuggets" (why they can't provide larger pillows is beyond me). The TV had interference (black lines) and the AC ran loudly in 10 minute on, 2 minute off cycles, endlessly. That said, the room was clean, the shower had good water pressure and we heard -zero- pool noise despite a handful of kids splashing about; not bad. We requested a crib for our little guy; it arrived 3 minutes later with a smile (we've waited as long as an hour elsewhere) - awesome. The next day, the unthinkable happened; I closed the car door on my own finger… splitting the nail, resulting in a ton of pain and a fair bit of blood. I went to the front desk with hopes they might sell me a bandaid. Instead, the extremely gracious gentlemen (Dane) told me to hang on as he ran to the back office, returning with (no joke): sterile gauss, medical tape, a sanitary wipe, a bottle of cold water and a packet of ibuprofen! Before I could ask if he could put it on our room bill he told me it was all on the house and to come back if I needed anything else; truly above and beyond. Oh, and the breakfast buffet was fantastic. We will absolutely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Confirmation of all prior reviews"
All the reviews that we read before arrival were true. The Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach was clean and the staff 100 percent helpful. The only two issues we had were access to the beach and the mattress on our bed. The mattress would never adjust to soft, always firm. The hotel is located about 5 miles south of Carlsbad Village with not much around […] it. Without a car you would be limited to food served in hotel. We did not eat at hotel, There are many places to dine at in Carlsbad Village. For breakfast recommend The Daily News in the village. Great omelets! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel by the beach"
Nice clean quiet beach but the bed needs some work. They have a dial that adjust the firmness of the bed but I couldn't get it to work. It felt hard as a rock no matter how I turned it. Other than that great hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice view of the ocean"
It was a little noisy and everytime the air turned on it woke me up.Genuine Expedia guest review
"good for young families"
The air conditioner was very noisy and was not constant so we had a disturbed sleep. The shower activation pin would not move so they had to lubricate and clean off the calcium. The beach was across the road and no direct access other than climbing down or driving to a lower beach access. The pool was very nice and internally located making it safe […] for children and great privacy. Good access to outlets and freeway Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"very close to ocean"
Very pleasant staff. Clean and newer hotel. Lots of children since this is a big Legoland area. Ocean accross the street, but the beach isn't the best and you have to walk down the road about 1500 ft to access, because this area of beach is down a very steep dirt cliff. About a 1.5 mile jog down to the 'village of Carlsbad. McDonalds, etc. are within […] walking distance. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful location"
The hotel sits in a great location. Not far from the town center and lots of restaurants. The bed is a bit soft and the price is a little over what it shoudl be. I think they are charging for the easy access to the beach. This beach area is a litttle difficult to get down to, the walk is probably at least a half mile even though the hotel sits directly […] across from the ocean. There are cliffs at this point and access is limited. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great hotel for families"
First impressions do count. Upon arrival the first person is the one who sets the tone. Unfortunately the front desk clerk Mariah was not accommodating or pleasant. We did get there early and I explained I did have children in the car. I understand if the rooms are not ready, she could not accomodate us. However, when I asked for suggestions as to where […] we could wait she had none. I returned after 3 and the rooms still weren't ready. She suggested we park the car in the back near the double doors and we could wait by the pool or in the complex. However, she failed to mention or suggest that I needed a card key to get in. Back to the front I went to tell her the doors were locked and at that time of day, no one came in or out of the double doors to let us in. The other front desk clerks were friendly and accommodating so I know she was not the norm. I rated your hotel an "OK" for quality of staff and their service for that reason. "Across the street from the beach"
The beds were a bit stiff! We found a softness switch on the side of the mattress before the second night, making our sleep much more comfortable. If it weren't for the pool being open until 11pm with VERY noisy kids, the room would've been quiet….I couldn't even hear the neighbor's door closing. I found it odd that housekeeping would only put 3 bath […] towels in a room where 4 people were staying. The staff was very good about brining up more towels though. We liked the hotel/staff overall and would stay again. Light sleepers should bring ear plugs for the pool noise, since no one seems to be considerate of others these days. "Great Hotel, Limited Beach Access For Families"
Excellent Hotel with great ammenities with one MAJOR exception. There is not "beach access" as the pictures depict. If you would like to go to the beach, it is at least 1 mile possibly more either direction. An active couple without kids could scale down the rabbit trails, and it is very steep. If you have children (I have one 4 years old another 14 […] years old) this would be very dangerous, you would be asking for a fall if they were allowed to attempt the "stunt". I was just expecting to cross the street and find a stairway or at the minimum a slight grade to the beach. When I asked the front desk, they did offer to shuttle us down to the actual beach access, but now you are waiting on someone else when the kids are ready to go. In short; excellent hotel, pricey breakfast ($14.95 per adult, yes my 14 year old was considered an adult). Oh, another kudos was the heated pool, we went July 14th-July 17th with highs of only low 80's. The pool was great, and the kids loved it! The pool was 3.5 ft deep all the way across with a hot tub, the towel service was 4 to 5 towels at a time, get them as soon as you see them! Our was room 201, great view of ocean front, 301 probably had a better view just because height, I know they were happy with it because I could hear the children running through the ceiling. Only downfall, just be prepared when you see the hotel's idea of beach access. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"good experience"
Overall a good experience and a great location. Heated pool was amazing. Beds were so comfortable and clean. Perfect location to get to places such as Legoland and catching the freeway to go to other beaches. It's on the beach, but very far down a cliff. I originally thought it would be easy to walk down, but it wasn't a kid friendly beach areaGenuine Expedia guest review
"weekend getaway for inland locals"
staff are generally young and enthusiastically friendly and helpful, top to bottom. Good restaurant choices all in close range, and the bistro right inside the lobby is amoung the best. "Would go back"
It is a nice hotel with friendly staff. Our first room on the 3rd floor was very noisy because of the continuous ventilation in the bathroom. An engineer came to check it at night. He told there was nothing he could do since that ventilation was for the whole hotel. He also told some rooms are quieter and they can give us another room next day; the […] hotel was already full for that day/night. After a night with little sleep, next day we were given same kind of room on the same floor in the front with a beautiful view; the first room had ocean view too but it wasn’t in the front. And it was quiet, except the some noise from the road. The staff was very understanding and helpful. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location, lousy buffet"
The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the beach. We tried their breakfast buffet which is more of a wait in a long line for 15 minutes to order from only one cook on duty, then wait at the counter for another 15 minutes to have him cook yours and 20 other orders. "Hilton Garden in Carlsbad, CA - great ocean view"
We loved our view from the room. Beautiful sunset view through the window. However, massive air conditioning unit right outside the window made it impossible to hear the sounds from the ocean that would have added to the attraction of the view. Breakfast buffet was great, but no ala carte options made it a bit overpriced when all we wanted was a cup […] of oatmeal, an egg, and a slice of toast. Workout room was small but adequate, needs a separate thermostat - got very warm in the small room. Hotel is lovely, but is not in walking distance of any shopping, restaurants or site-seeing. It is right on the beach, if the weather had been warmer, it would be a great beach hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hilton Garden Inn, Carlsbad"
This is a mixed review because it is just from my point of view. The staff was very good and attentive. Complimentary Wi-Fi was a plus. Everything is well-maintained and clean. Their 24 Hr shuttle service over a 5 mile radius is awesome, as most restaurants & beaches in town are close. Weekends, are a bit of a problem tho: we had a 45 minute wait to […] get back from a restaurant, but it only happened once. The beds are weird. They are supposedly 'adjustable' but staff neglected to say that there were controls on each side of the double beds ( There were 2 beds in the room). They have rubber 'bladders' inside to do the adjusting, but they squeeked loudly whenever we shifted position or rolled over. This hotel caters to families, so there are LOTS of kids in the pool and spa tub ALL the time, which put me off, as I don't have any kids---and knowing what kids+swimming pools equal made me reluctant t go in at all... Also the kids make quite a bit of noise. Get a deal here including breakfast, as it's $16 per person if you don't ( we had coupons for breakfast every day ) Also, check the weather forecast before you go. When we were there ( July 28-Aug 1 ) it was cloudy every day until about 1:30 PM. Also check when high tides and low tides are, for beach trips. Bring umbrellas + chairs & beach towels for the beach & go to the beach in town at the end of Carlsbad Boulevard as it is walking distance to many restaurants and fast food places. One of the best restaurants in town is Viggelucci's Cucina Italiano on State Street with spectacular italian food and moderate prices. Don't bother with Viggelucci's steak & seafood as it is high end and really very noisy-- Altogether, I would recommend this hotel but would qualify it with the above. Great if you have kids. "Lovely in almost every way"
You can't beat the location. It's lovely. I booked the room for a reunion with out-of-town family. The beds were AMAZING...and we would have slept really well if their hadn't been this crazy, irritating rattling noise coming from the kitchen unit. We tried everything to stop it, but no luck, so we just got up. It was too late (or early) to move to […] another room. The iron didn't work either. They need to put some effort into keeping the rest of the room as nice as their beds. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel was nice. Staff at check-in was super nice and friendly. The room overall was great! The only 2 disappointments were the size of the bathroom and the 'view'. When the room was booked it stated 'partial ocean view', but when we looked out the window all we saw was a huge tree. The "partial ocean view" was not there... so paying that extra charge […] per night was a rip off. The size of the bathroom/hall was a bit crammed. With 4 people to the room, we could not have the bathroom door open because then we could not get to the closet or the refrigerator/microwave. Again, it was a nice hotel but don't pay the extra for the view because in our specific case, it was a total disappointment. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"First trip to Legoland!"
We had a great experience, took the kids to Legoland for the first time and the hotel could hardly have been more convenient. Day-tripped to Balboa Park on the second day, and spent the afternoon in the pool after we got back from the city. Food choices around the hotel weren't terribly convenient, and breakfast choice outside of the hotel amounted […] to two trips to McDonalds. Dinner out the first night was Claim Jumper, which was not conducive to family dining with a 4yo and a 2yo .. service was horrendously slow. Dinner in the hotel restaurant the second night was delicious, convenient, quick, and extremely satisfying. Location was great, grounds were fun to explore, rooms were clean, amenities were satisfactory, and my wife went 4 miles on the treadmill in the gym. A great first family trip! "VERY cozy, immaculate, and close to Legoland!"
Very close and convenient to Legoland...and hotel offers free shuttle to take you anywhere within 5 miles. Only downside is that although hotel is right across from beach...it's mainly a high-elevated, cliff-side beach, with slight difficulty for children or elders to walk down to the shoreline. There is better excess to get to beach if you walk down […] small highway a little bit. Fine for adults, but challenging for families with small kids or elders. But overall...beautiful family-friendly hotel. Offers cute "movies on the lawn" each nite for the kids, with popcorn and cookies. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good, but not great"
Considering the price and the Hotel brand I was expecting a luxurious atmosphere, but the place is more a motel than a hotel. Service is good and the rooms were large and comfortable. You have to walk a lot to get to the lobby or to your car, but not a big problem. Watch out for the food prices if you order snacks to the pool.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Nice Hotel but the beach not really accessible"
A nice clean and well maintained hotel. We stayed with two little kids and was nice and confortable. It's located across from a beach but the road/hotel is located about 120 ft above a bluff with VERY steep drop off, so the beach is not easily accessible. We saw a few surfers walking down to the beach, so it's possible but not if you have smaller kids. […] Also, this section of the beach dissapears during high tide and got lots of dark pebbles, so be warned, it's not your typical white sandy California beach. On the other hand, the pool is 3 & 1/2 ft deep all the way across, so very kids friendly. There's a nice Carlsbad beach about 5 minutes drive north of the hotel. We use the hotel shuttle a couple of times to Legoland. They have a 7 & 8 seater van. The 8 seater van was great as there were 7 of us travelling toghther. There's no shops around, so you need to drive everywhere. There's also an Outlet shops nearby but we didn't really find it that good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
