The stay at this hotel was just brilliant! The location is just on top of Ghirardelli Square, which is I guarantee the world's best Ice Cream and Chocolate. We decided to stay at the Fairmount based on all of the positive reviews. The 2 bedroom residence city view was beautiful! 2 1/2 baths a beautiful modern kitchen that seats 8. Our famiy of 4 (2 adults, children ages 10 &13) just spent 4 blissful days at the Fairmont. We had reserved a Bay View one bedroom suite but we upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite at check -in. I have seen that many reviewers comment on the hotel's willingness to upgrade, which is a testament to the hotel's committment to customer satisfaction. So many hotels, […] even 5 star chains, try to give away their worst rooms first and only move you to a better room when you complain. The Fairmont obviously has the reverse policy and will always try to give you the best room available. We stayed at the Fairmont for the last 4 days of a 2 week California vacation. We splurged on the room because we thought we'd need some relaxation after a week and a half of driving and living out of suitcases. It was expensive to be sure, but worth the splurge! We had an enormous balcony overlooking the San Francisco Bay, which gave us the best seat in the house for viewing the fireworks on 4th of July. This was by far the best hotel I've ever stayed at. The staff really make the experience complete. They're friendly and will go the extra mile for anything you desire. The house car will take you anywhere in a 2 mile radius and possibly a fraction of a mile further if you're nice (tipping helps as well, since many visitors are from other countries […] and often forget). The nightly turn down service is excellent as well. Hotel staff remove the decorative pillows from the bed, leave a chocolate on each pillow and provide a bottle of water for each guest as well as slippers. The morning breakfast is typical, but the afternoon wine/cheese tasting is a nice addition to any trip. There's also a fire pit on the second level, which makes enjoying your coffee or tea outside very relaxing. With only 53 rooms, the hotel is never excessively busy and you will get very personal and polite service. Well worth a stay and if you're planning to go to San Francisco, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Considering the service you receive, the location and amenities, their rates are excellent!
