Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman's Wharf.

I really enjoyed the staff. They were very nice and helpful. My room was decent. I didn't like the fact that the TV was up so high and that there weren't any good channels. The hotel is fairly small, but overall a very good stay. I had an issue the first night with street noise, but they were very accommodating and found a room in the back of the hotel for me. Small, but clean, great service with a great price in a fun area. But my room was too loud being right above the dumpsters and listening to sirens all night. Great if you are on vacation, but I was staying there the night before a big interview so didn't get much sleep. Double bed, comfortable. "STAY AWAY - Much better options nearby..."
I stay in SF for business almost every week and have enjoyed trying different hotels in the Union Square neighborhood. Each has had good and a few not so good points but this place is awful. In fact, this is the first time I have decided I had to write about my experience. While the room seemed pretty clean the hallways were threadbare and dirty. One […] set of curtains in my room were falling off the rod and after the front desk had closed I discovered that my toilet was not getting any water - so it would not flush. While I paid for two nights I left after just one night. While checking out I mentioned the broken toilet and that I would only stay in the place one night but the fellow at the desk couldn't have cared less. "Nice Budget Hotel in the Heart of San Francisco"
I recently stayed at The Touchstone Hotel on a business trip and it was everything I was looking for - a clean, safe hotel to sleep and shower in for a budget price. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and made great suggestions about getting out and about in San Francisco. The location is excellent, with close proximity to Chinatown and many […] other shops, restaurants and tourist attractions. The BART station is less than a 10 minute walk away. I felt safe in the area, even at night. IMO, the rooms were a little bit small compared to the average room size in the "brand-name" hotels, but this didn't really bother me, as there was still plenty of space to store my stuff and move around. Having free wi-fi was definitely a plus. I would definitely stay at The Touchstone again on my next trip to San Francisco and would definitely recommend this hotel to others.
