Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman's Wharf.

The hotel does a good job with the facilities that they have. This is a very old building that is maintained well and cleaned well.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"For SF, relatively affordable, relatively large"
At the edge of the Tenderloin, this is not a place to stay as a woman alone on the weekend. If you decide to stay here any way, make sure you approach from Geary (e.g., if arriving on BART, get off at Powell (not Civic Center) go up Mason or Powell, go west on Geary, (not west on Eddy and up Jones). With free breakfast (toaster waffles, bread, bananas) […] and free wifi (sometimes a bit slow, but more reliable than many), this hotel had okay room size and amenities for the price. Bring earplugs, however, as it was noisy, especially on the weekend. The halls and rooms smelled of smoke, so if you are sensitive to smoke, I would suggest staying elsewhere. The staff were friendly and helpful. It feels like a hostel with only private rooms- friendly, rough around the edges. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Can't beat this deal!"
I found this hotel to be a VERY good deal for the money. Close to everything and while the surrounding neighborhood maybe questionable, it sits in a good location near other much higher prices hotels. Lots of food places nearby and close to Market St. I can't say one bad thing about this place! I will say that their breakfast only includes bread, waffles […] to put in the toaster, bananas and tea or coffee so not much but otherwise everything else was just fine. I will gladly stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not Great"
If you need to get any work done in SF stay somewhere else. If you don't need to sleep, stay here. Our experience was terrible.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good hotel but..."
The hotel is fine in terms of cleanliness but it can be loud at night. The most problematic thing about this hotel isn't the hotel itself but the fact that it is located in the Tenderloin district. Felt safe most of the time but I wouldn't have been comfortable walking around the area late at night. Security at the hotel is sufficient to make you feel […] safe once you are inside however. "Good value"
The hotel was clean but not fancy. Noisy people in other rooms were the only problem.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent for price"
The hotel location was great for what I had to do, very close to the car rentals and plenty of restaurants. But the neigboorgood was horrible. The hotel it self was kinda raunchy, women on the night hang out in the lobby. Lots of homeless outside. The place just had a motel feel, and what I thought was a good deal ended up being I got what I paid f […] or. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not bad for the price"
The hotel was clean and the staff friendly, but there is no real service. No one to take your bags, guide you to transportation or answer questions about the city.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lots of local color"
Very old and the one elevator was scary. Drunks fighting outside on street most of night. We were only there to sleep, so we were good. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. Really close to Union Square and lots of neighborhood bars and restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I found the Adante Hotel to be the right solution for downtown San Francisco business on a tight travel budget.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Solid place for the price"
Good price point, neighborhood wasn't too sketchy, hotel was a bit out dated, but clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean but basic"
Efficent service, free speedy internet, clean and orderly rooms, convenient to Moscone Convention area. Rooms small, no air conditioning but a ceiing fan so it was hot, breakfast muffins, bread, sometimes bananas, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, must pay to print boarding pass.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Watch out for bugs!"
The cleaness was ok, except for one bug I found in one of the towels. By the way, the towels need to be replaced. Please, buy new towels.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cheap in every way"
Very old hotel that has not been maintained over the years. Stains on the couch in my room grossed me out. Elevator worked, but had a warning posted that it gets stuck if carrying more than 3 people. The bathroom fixtures had masking tape wrapped around them, I suppose to stop leaks. Staff was not welcoming or cheerful, but not rude either. Over all, […] an okay place to stay if traveling alone and want an inexpensive hotel, but don't expect much. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"best value!! for location"
Out of the hotels this was the cheapest and at a great location!! Recommend itGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Poor Location and Services"
Location is really sketchy. A few blocks too far into the seedy district. The heat is not controllable and no air conditioning. We will not be returning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value for the price"
My bedspreads were old and one had a rip in it That left a bad first impression. If they changed the bedspreads I would rate much higher. Very quiet. Excellent water pressure in shower!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"It's fine, but not for the money"
Sorta clean, but overpriced, for a room with sheets that hadn't been cleaned, or if they had, they still had a lot of hair on them from other people. There were oddly two shampoo bottles, and one had been completely watered down. Door let in all the noise from the hallway. It would be a fine stay for half the cost.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Tenderloin Adjacent"
Not bad for the price. If you're taking the BART and are squeamish about trekking through the tenderloin, I'd recommend the Powell or Montgomery stop rather than Civic Center.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to Union Square"
Only a few blocks from Union Square, this a value-priced hotel with minimal amenities. The theater district is even closer than shopping - the neighborhood's a little rough but gets better as you get closer to the Union Square area. Good if you're on a budget and won't spend time in your hotel room. Perfect for me and my needs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I stayed here for a conference at the Moscone center and saved about $15-20 per night relative to the super duper hotels down near Market & 4th. The hotel was ok, but it was not within $15 per night of those. For the price I paid, Adante was cheaper but not a good value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for"
We wanted a less expensive hotel in walking distance from the convention center, and that is what we got, so in that sense I am happy. I also liked the character of the older building, and the fact that we could safely leave windows open. Not so good was the air quality. The first room they gave us was stuffy with a tiny window and a fan that didn't […] work. The guy at reception (manager, I think) did not hesitate to upgrade us to a larger room with better ventilation, so that was good. He also made sure the blocked toilet got fixed while we were out for the day. In order to have fresh air, we kept the windows open and the temp was cool. Therefore we needed more blankets. That turned out to be a disappointment. We received blankets that were stained and had holes in them, ended up going back to the main desk several times to exchange for another. Even the ones we settled for were of very poor quality. It was hard to convince them to give us enough towels for three people, even though we paid for three. The sofa bed for the third person was old and rickety, with holes in the upholstery. Shower was fine. Not much room to put personal items in the bathroom. Continental breakfast was pretty poor. White toast, muffins, bananas, and drinks. No cereal, cheapest products. Surrounding area was on the edge of feeling safe. Lots of interesting characters wandering around. Plenty of places to eat, most of which were quite good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Adante Hotel SF - quaint, quiet, good value"
This hotel reminded me of the small hotels I've stayed at in Paris--and it probably is about the same age. The hotel has been recently re-decorated, somewhat whimsically with hand-painted tropical murals. Everything is basic but very clean. My room was on the back side of the hotel and so it was also very quiet. The hotel is within easy walking distance […] of Union Square, Market Street shopping and the Powell Street BART station, though some might find the neighborhood just a bit sketchy. Lots of cheap, good ethnic restaurants very close by, including a diner that had a line out the door on Sunday morning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"best you can do on a low budget"
The hotel staff were polite and prompt. The architecture is interesting, although the building's a bit dingy. My chief complaint was that my room had a faint odor, sort of like sweaty armpits. All in all, it's nothing to get excited about, but it's satisfactory if you're on a tight budget and want to be a few blocks away from the Civic Center area.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Boutique?"
This is an old hotel with some remodeling and a fresh coat of paint. It's worn and not uncomfortable, but not what I think of as "boutique". It's a short walk to Union Square, but the neighborhood drifts quickly from tourist status. It's a decent budget hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel Adante within walking d to convention Center"
We booked online based on location and acceptable pictures. The quoted rate was very good. (San Francisco is extremely expensive.) The room and the bathroom was very small but had some charm. There was quite some street noise at night. What was unpleasant was "people" walking up and down the street at night till about 2:30 a.m. in the morning and talking […] loud on their cell phones. We sincerely enjoyed the price/value of the Adante. Our room was clean, comfortable, loved the ambience of the hotel and the friendly staff. We would gladly stay at the Adante again on a future visit to San Francisco.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Small, Old musky room"
I got the two twin room and it was extra small. The bed linens were very dated and the bathroom looked like a bathroom of an old house. The doors were old wooden doors that you can hear right through. The TV's are beat. Dont go outside after dark. There is exposed piping in the room. The carpets were put in right over the old carpets. Smells bad.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Reasonable, but loud"
Clean, reasonable rates, but thin walls--had to get ear plugs.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hoyel Adante"
They are updating the halls and rooms. I got a very nice large updated room with 2 double beds and had plenty of work space. The location was convenient to my meetings and the price was right. Free internet connection was working great and the breakfast offerings were adequate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't ride the elevator"
This is a great place to stay if you have a penchant for getting stuck on the elevator (at least there was a disclaimer stating that you would get stuck if more than 4 people boarded), like thread bare sheets and towels that look like they just held a moth convention, like really, really tiny rooms with dirty rugs and think that continental breakfast […] is white bread and bad coffee.
