The hotel was conveniently located just 2 blocks up from the Powell/Market intersection - so close to Muni/Bart trains, buses, streetcars and the cable car. This was a great, basic place to stay. It had a small, clean, cozy room and bathroom, which was great because all we did was shower and sleep there. We were a little confused about the radiator though, so it was either really warm or cold with the window open. Not a big problem though. Great location... Plenty of late night places to eat across the […] street and on the surrounding blocks, a few blocks away from the cable car ticket booth, Muni, and BART stations, plenty of bars and shopping all within walking distance. Our only 2 bad experiences where having our card charged twice; which they gladly refunded with CASH, brought to our room, and the shock of a $145 valet bill at the end of our weekend. Our Yukon was considered oversized, for an extra charge, and they also added tax daily to our tab. We ended up paying double for parking there. I'd recommend looking for parking elsewhere, as we only used our vehicle once. We had a wonderful time and spent the whole weekend sightseeing and enjoying the surrounding area. I was on the fence about this hotel. I loved the employees they were very helpful and the room was clean, the breakfast room was also pretty nice. On that note the room was very very small I literally could not open the door if I was not standing close enough to the bed. Which leads me to my next memory; the sounds of the homeless arguing and yelling for the most part of the night. With a mojor city you will always have homeless. I live in NJ and commute to NY so I know this, but even I thought the homeless were in excess here. As far as getting around the city, the location of the hotel is excellent! There is also a lounge, cafe, a shoe store and tons of other great shops on the same street. Just an FYI the parking was $25 a night and it was valet so you need to call 20 minutes minimum to get your car. I think for the pricing and lack of AC alone another hotel may be worth it. You only would stay here if you want the location to be Union Square, and you are willing to pay a bit more. Not worth the money, in my opinion. You might as well pay a bit more and go with a nicer hotel in the same location. The rooms are TINY, and you can hear the other tenants so that was annoying. There's no views.

The Straford Hotel couldn't have been located in a better location. It was ideal, right in the middle of union square close to shopping and loads of wonderful places to eat. The actual hotel room though, was very small, with limited room to move around, but the bathroom was sizeable and all was clean. Walk out of the hotel, turn right and you're in Union Square. Walk left, you're at the bottom of the Powell and Mason tramline that runs to Fishermans Wharf. So, if location is what you're after, this is first rate. It is what you will be paying for though. The rooms are nice enough but nothing spectacular; we didnt have a shower curtain which was annoying […] but were only staying for one night and were too tired to complain. The breakfast was a bit meh, toast and cereal and some sweet muffins but compared to hotels I paid half the price for in the middle of nowhere it didnt really compare. Väldigt bra läge, gångavstånd till Bart (tåget till flygplatsen) drn berömda spårvagnrn går utanför hotellet. Dock små rum, Duschen hade vattenspar så det tog en stund att duscha, blev ganska kallt på natten i vårt rum (mars mån) men det var inget problem. Skulle ändå bo där igen.
