I LOVED the intimate boutique feeling of the room. The bed was comfy, the bathroom beautiful. A little too low on the water pressure for my taste. The hotel is in a good spot by union square and it is pretty "hip" but the rug in the hallway of my floor was covered in plastic. I felt like i was part of a crime scene. the woman at the front was a little rude. I really like the Mystic: the modern style is just much more "me" than the other similarly priced options in the area. It's a great deal: a comfy room in an attractive building with a good breakfast included. It is an old building so there are creaks here and there, and it's in the city so there are sometimes noises at night, but none of the above has […] bothered me. As others have mentioned, the elevator is crazy slow, but it's better to take the stairs anyway, which is what I do when I am not schlepping a suitcase. The bar in the hotel has a nice atmosphere and well mixed craft cocktails. There's a good chance I will return to the Mystic for future trips. Read more

There is a lot to like about this little hotel. It was reasonably priced, clean and centrally located. They offer a nice (free) continental breakfast in the morning. Just a couple of things to note. They play live music on the 2nd floor most every night, so if you're a light sleeper or someone who turns in early, ask for a room on the 4th or 5th floors. […] The music was great and the clientele was upscale - but I was on the 3rd floor and it was very apparent I was above a small nightclub. Lucky I can sleep through anything! The other thing worth noting is that there is a super convenient parking structure right across the street. The rate is $34 for 24 hours. I seemed to be able to go in and out a couple of times a day and the cost did not exceed $34 in a 24 hour period. The hotel will suggest (they don't push) that you go to some place around the block that charges $32 for 24 hours with unlimited ins and outs. The place across the street was well worth the extra $2 - if just for the fact that it is only a few feet away. Read more

Hotel was clean, but under going some re-modeling. Construction did not affect our stay though. Rooms are small but nicely decorated. Had a nice mini bar but no pricing anywhere for items, which made us question what the charges were for the bar items. Rooms are small but that seems to be how most rooms in this area are. This is a good deal if you need to stay near Union Square and you aren't the type that has to stay at a Wyndham or Hyatt Regency. Once you get past the horrible name "Mystic Hotel," you'll realize it's a chic hotel with basic amenities. I actually stayed in 2 rooms because I wasn't sure I needed the second night. The first room was worse than the 2nd. […] The first room was right on Stockton Street, on the 3rd floor right above the hotel bar. So it was very noisy...and the decor was basic and drab. The 2nd room was great! It was on the 7th floor - decorated very chic with exposed brick walls and tucked away near an alley...so little to no noise. It was ok but I wouldn't stay there again. The room was cold, all white, nothing on the walls. Two windows opened up to noisy alleys. Garbage truck each morning at 6:20 making horrible sounds. The tv cable went out the last night I was there. The bathroom sink was in the bedroom (what's up with that?) The hallways were dark and creepy. Do not stay in a room that faces the alley! I stayed here 3 nights and each and every night I heard people rummaging through the glass recycles in the alley, homeless people fighting, and sirens. As if that wasn't bad enough...I was woken up by the garabage truck before 6am each morning. A great price for a super clean and attractive hotel. The room was tidy and had a nice couch from which I did a little work before bed. The bathroom was nice looking and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was on the 2nd floor and included bagels, yogurt, fruits, juice and toast. I will definitely keep this place in mind for future visits.

Don't have much to say: just really great! Enjoyed everyday/night and stayed there for 8 nights. I had one worry, which was the noise -because of its central location- but actually that was fine. So I would strongly recommend this hotel! The only bad experience I had there was at the very (trendy/hip) bar, where the staff, incl manager, were quite unprofessional/rude: […] because we had waited 25mn to get 3 drinks, we decided to leave and asked to get our credit card back. It took us a while to get it back, and we had to face a very aggressive (male) manager and (female) waiter. They should have said they were sorry for the wait instead of making it so difficult! The hotel is one of these old places in SF where the rooms are very small and the elevator is ancient. I was OK with that, but I was not OK with the noise directly outside my room (hotel employees carrying something noisy in a stairwell) that woke me up all three days I was there between 6 and 6:30am. I got inconsistent numbers of towels from the maid […] service and my friend who stayed down the hall got no towels at all one day (as in, they came in and removed all his towels without replacing them). The continental breakfast was just OK. The location looks sketchy from the outside, although the hotel looks nice when you walk in. Front desk reception was bland, communication was lacking as to the exact location of our room, and it felt a bit like a scavenger hunt. After three miscommunications with the receptionist, we finally found our assigned destination and stepped into a tiny but clean minimalist room with no reading lights beside the bed and a cutting-edge designed lucite […] chair that was dreadfully uncomfortable. Water pressure in the sink was almost non-existent, and so was the hot water, so we decided not to take a chance with the shower. Beside the bed were two large bottles of designer water but no information was present regarding their cost, so we didn't open them. We were awakened very early in the morning by street noise, but I suppose due to the hotel's location that the clanging from the garbage trucks dumping load after load of recyclable bottles was unavoidable. Breakfast was nice, but would have been much more enjoyable without the talking heads yammering away at top volume on the huge TV in the breakfast room. All in all, it was a very impersonal atmosphere here at the Crescent, and I would not recommend this hotel. There are much better places available in the city at comparable rates. Read more

Our first night was on the 4th floor, north side of the building facing an alley. Noise from the street (conversations, trash pick up, cars) made the first night almost unsleepable. The windows were very old and not remotely soundproofed. When we complained, the desk staff said "Eh, it's a noisy neighborhood..." However, they did move us to a higher […] floor on the other side of the building. Ironically, these windows were much newer and did a much better job of keeping out noise. We slept great. The hotel is in a fantastic part of the city and there were aspects of the hotel that were nice. However, my room was incredibly small and there were cracked tiles in the bathroom shower (no tub). The worst part was the unbearable noise. Right after midnight, there garbage trucks that came down the alley next to the hotel and extraordinarily loudly, […] clanged dumpsters against the cement for almost an hour. There was continual noise throughout the entire night, including trucks backing up in the alley and constant noise from police cars. At about 4:30 in the morning, it sounded like there a bulldozer that was right outside my window. Put bluntly, I slept less than 2 hours because of the cacophonous traffic. Unfortunately I was traveling for business and showed up for my meetings looking like, well I had slept for two hours the night before. Management was also a huge issue. When I went to complain the next day, the manager informed me that "there is nothing we can do about the fact that you are a light sleeper." Ultimately, I did convince him to at least move me to a higher floor, which, with expensive ear plugs I had to purchase, did help. The continental breakfast was another hassle. They constantly were out of things like coffee and orange juice (what other point is there to a continental breakfast). Again, when I went to ask about it, the manager told me that there were people working back there that would bring the coffee out momentarily. He did nothing to try and rectify the situation, as several guests and I waited another 20 minutes for the staff to show up with coffee. Finally, I took it upon myself to go into the back, where I found one person, texting away on his cell phone. Ahh, finally some coffee. I really would encourage you not to stay at this hotel. The rooms are small and nothing really special, the management doesn't care, and the noise is intolerable. There are many better options in the neighborhood. Read more

I stayed for 6 nights and the room was clean and towels where changed every day. The bed and the pillows were comfortable and I slept quite well. The only little issue is the sink with the mirror is outside the bathroom so you have to plan for that,but I had a small hand held mirror so I could shave while in the bath room. Some nights there was loud […] thuds of the doors banging which woke me up maybe because I am a light sleeper. Walkable to Market St and other shopping attractions and Union Circle.
