Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman's Wharf.

"loved it"
I stayed at the Mystic for 4 weeknights. It was great. The room was small, but totally fine for one person, and the design of both the room and the bathroom made them seem larger than they actually were. My room faced east, and I didn't have any problem with street noise or sounds from trash collection. The ceiling fan was a nice touch and kept the […] room nice and cool. Angel at the front desk was super nice and helpful. Overall, a great experience that I'd gladly repeat. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute room and great bar!"
The room was adorable - very comfortable and tastefully decorated. There was construction going on on I think all the floors but it didn't bother us. Also, the Burritt Room bar on the 2nd floor was amazing. Great atmosphere, delicious drinks (kind of like a mixology bar) and live jazz on some nights -- we looked for a better bar elsewhere and always […] ended up conveniently at the one in the hotel. Highly recommend! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Renovated, quiet and good location"
The room was renovated and modern in design. Although small, the room was sufficient for one. The bathroom needs more counter space. The room was bright and I was able to control the heat in the room. The breakfast was good. Since the hotel is old, the elevator is also old; but that should be expected. The location was central enough to get around […] town. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The Mystic Hotel was wonderful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I LOVED the intimate boutique feeling of the room. The bed was comfy, the bathroom beautiful. A little too low on the water pressure for my taste. Convenient mini store next door for snacks and fruit. The trash truck in the alley every morning at 6:30 was an slight annoyance but that's what you get in a city setting. Didn't last long and then silence […] again. I will stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Easy Walk to Union Square"
I didn't like how the location was right next to the tunnel, but it didn't bother me that much. It was only 2 blocks away from union square and getting a taxi was easy. I wished they had another elevator.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I personally went to preview hotel before I booked"
And I was pleased! BUT, the elevator was NEVER free always had to wait The Tavern is quite expensive, I asked for 1 kind of wine and a lady came around telling me i should try this one. Also, no room service. What I should have asked was how much is it. So we stayed mostly in the hotel, the door isn't set correctly every time someone walks by or closes […] another door our door shakes as if it was about to open. And since the bed is so close to door, as In I can open the door while sitting on my bed, I was constantly anxious thinking someone would walk in so we kept the "do not disturb" tab for the entire stay. We stayed 5 days. The tv kept blanking every 30 mins, a lot of the channels didn't work. No sort of table for toothbrush and toothpaste, the basin is too fancy to hold anything on it, or anywhere else in the broom. If you ask for the 3rd floor ask for the left side facing union square so you won't get the noise of the garbage men BUT you won't see any view of the square, just a brick wall and some clouds. If possible just stay above the 4th floor. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Spring break"
I'm a mom who traveled with her 16 year old daughter and I loved our stay! The hotel's location was excellent and we always felt safe walking around. The room was spotless, the front desk was always helpful and the breakfast was delicious! I would definitely stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and fun boutique hotel"
We loved the hotel. It did miss the mark on a couple of things -- small -- no Kleenex in the room, need a table lamp by the bed and the security safe was closed and not able to open without help from management. But everything else was great -- we love the modern decor right out of Dwell magazine, especially the sliding pocket-type door to the bathroom […] and the quiet modern room fan. The taverna room is fantastic and the breakfast was great. I walked up several cups of good coffee to the room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Second stay, better than the first"
I really like the Mystic: the modern style is just much more "me" than the other similarly priced options in the area. It's a great deal: a comfy room in an attractive building with a good breakfast included. It is an old building so there are creaks here and there, and it's in the city so there are sometimes noises at night, but none of the above has […] bothered me. As others have mentioned, the elevator is crazy slow, but it's better to take the stairs anyway, which is what I do when I am not schlepping a suitcase. The bar in the hotel has a nice atmosphere and well mixed craft cocktails. There's a good chance I will return to the Mystic for future trips. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Industrial chic meets hollywood elegance"
I was VERY impressed with my room. With the lobby. With all of it. I had some fantastic oysters on the half shell from the restaurant on the second floor, and the continental breakfast in the morning was a nice inclusion, especially when the hotel was quite affordable compared to others in the area. I parked my rental car for nearly 24 hours straight […] in the garage directly across the street and paid $34 for it. Not bad. My only complaint is that I was in one of their new "suite" rooms, meaning that the next room over adjoined to mine with an interior door. The door was locked of course, never opened it, but it gave very little sound barrier. My neighbor was on the phone speaking in a foreign language at 1:30am and I thought he was in my room! No biggee. I'm still calling this 5 stars. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The BEST place in to LIVE if you want to see SF!"
Fantastic stay! first night I went late around 8pm so didn't get a room with a view, but I requested for a view room! Next day I went for business, and they moved my stuff with my permission to the best VIEW room, I had amazing views of grand hyatt and sunrize. Also the Breakfast is super awesome with combinations of fruits, juice. tea and coffee. The […] best part is that it is away from the noise but close to the union square that I can do what ever I wanna do! Very safe at night too! I walked around 1 am. Alll people are friendly and also they have a 24/7 destop for us to print stuff. I will only live here when i am in San Fran ! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely and relaxing Valentine's Get-away"
Easy walk to Union Square and China Town. Very comfortable, windows that opened were nice to let in the beautiful weather(but maybe not so good if you are traveling with little ones). Nice continental breakfast. Burrit Room had a live jazz band, and a very chic but not intimidating atmosphere. The room was clean, except the grout in the shower, and […] a painted shut window in the shower, which needed a little attention. Overall, close enough to the action that we didn't require a car, and gave that city feel, but private and comfortable and not in a sketchy neighborhood at all. We would definitely stay again. "The Magical Mystic"
Impressed with the "feel" of the Mystic Hotel, so much that I forgot I was in a hotel and thought "I lived here" they had to gently remind + me of that when they saw I purchased a large credenza, circa 1930's, and had it delivered to the Mystic. the staff is tuned to the ""Mystic Frequency" and with out leaving anyone out, the experience begins at the […] front desk, under Rita's supervision; the "magic of the mystic" begins...say hello to Roy in the breakfast dining area; he will enjoy that. "Great Little Hotel"
This was a great hotel - small and simple but very clean and comfortable. The location was extremely convenient to Union Square and made getting around the city accessible. The price was very reasonable and the staff was friendly. The only inconvenience would be the elevator, which was quite old and slow, but this was understandable considering the […] age of the building. "GREAT STAY"
GREAT stay! Considering factors beyond the Hotel's control (very noisy location), what a wonderful find. My conference hotel was out of rooms, so booked one of Mystic's junior suites, which had a single double-bed. Pleasantly surprised it was very spacious and nice. Fabulous restaurant! "Great stay. Will be back soon."
I was in town for business. Decent size room. Smaller than a low class hotel, but it didnt matter. I didnt spend a lot of time in the room. It was very clean. The carpet did not have that gross look and feel that some hotels have. The bed/pillows were comfy, plenty of towels. Only concern was the outside. It was hard to find as there was no prominent […] sign. When walking up I felt I made a mistake picking that hotel. The other business looked abandoned and dirty. It turned out great. It would do them good to ask neighbors to clean up their space. Its a true "dont judge a book by its cover" hotel. Location was great. Walked around the block for great shopping. They had a "Tavern" on the second floor of hotel. Food smelled good (didn't eat there) Drinks were great music was even better. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Wish we'd have stayed longer!"
We were supposed to be staying with friends but instead got a room here at the last minute. The room was so affordable so I wasn't expecting much, but I was amazed. Wish I would have been staying here the whole time! We had a room on the 8th floor. The decor was clean and modern, the temperature nice, the bathroom modern and clean. To top it off, the […] complimentary breakfast was one of the best I've had - it was not a full breakfast (no eggs / omelettes), but there was what tasted like fresh squeezed orange juice, artisinal bread with nutella spread, and greek yogurt. What a find. The only negative was the elevator, which was a bit slow at peak breakfast time, but it really wasn't a big deal. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Perfect for quick couples getaway!"
My husband and I were only in San Francisco for three nights - we never got a honeymoon so this was our anniversary trip. We were upgraded when we checked in which was a nice surprise and a good thing as I cant imagine how small our original room would have been. Room was cozy, small but not to crowded for us two, just right. Located on the edge of […] Union Square and close to Chinatown which was nice. Overall very pleased with the hotel and cost. We heard a lot about noise levels being high but we were not bothered at all by it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Sweet place, great price"
A great price for a super clean and attractive hotel. The room was tidy and had a nice couch from which I did a little work before bed. The bathroom was nice looking and the bed was comfortable. "Best place we've stayed so far in downtown SF"
We loved this hotel. I first called the hotel to find out about room availability and rates but they told me they were booked. I had been looking on line at hotels.com and was seeing an availability. I know hotels reserve rooms for online booking so I booked on Hotels.com and reserved a room with a queen bed. When we checked in we were told we were […] upgraded. To our delight we were upgraded to a suite. The suite was spacious and very nicely decorated and clean. Views are a luxury at some hotels and depend upon the floor level and what building is next door. We did look out over a roof top but we could see over to the Macy's building. The room had lots of light with heavy drapes as well. The staff was very friendly. The lounge and restaurant were very comfortable and unique. Breakfast was good and the person maintaining the breakfast was friendly and quick to keep coffee flowing, tables cleared, and answer any questions we had. Another plus for us was the parking garage across the street which made moving luggage less of a chore with its proximity. We don’t like to stay at the same place when we go down to SF – we like to experience different environments, but we will return to the Majestic. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Perfect hotel! But avoid the bar!"
Don't have much to say: just really great! Enjoyed everyday/night and stayed there for 8 nights. I had one worry, which was the noise -because of its central location- but actually that was fine. So I would strongly recommend this hotel! The only bad experience I had there was at the very (trendy/hip) bar, where the staff, incl manager, were quite unprofessional/rude: […] because we had waited 25mn to get 3 drinks, we decided to leave and asked to get our credit card back. It took us a while to get it back, and we had to face a very aggressive (male) manager and (female) waiter. They should have said they were sorry for the wait instead of making it so difficult! Anyway, spend your money in another bar if you want to have a pleasant evening! It's a shame because the place looked really cool, great band playing too! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel"
Great location next to Union Square and shopping. Hotel was clean and the service was great...they let us check in early. Room was small but unique and functional. No view from our room and there was some noise from outside early in the morning. Breakfast was one of the better free hotel breakfasts that we have had. Price was reasonable.
