Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman's Wharf.
see all hotels in San FranciscoLoved the aesthetic of the hotel, and its location. The room was beautiful and very clean until we looked closer. The shower didn't get hot barely warmer than room temperature. The toilet seat was about to fall off. To top things off this hotel was very loud and the room didn't seam to be very sound proof. Woke up at 5am to a homeless man howling in […] the alley behind the hotel. He kept at it for an hour before he moved on. Later that morning 7ish, we were woken up by hotel staff and other guests talking and stomping through the halls. Bummer, because I really liked this hotel on first glance. "Big Disappointment"
On unexpected overnight layover at Charlotte airport, I was seeking something a bit nicer than the 2 star hotels near the airport. I found the Plaza about 15 minutes away by cab. It was listed as a 3 star, but in reality was nowhere close to that. It has run down horribly -- peeling paint, stains on carpet, deteriorated caulk in bathroom. My bed was […] actually missing pieces. All I could think of was, if there were so many visible issues, what kind of invisible problems were there? It was very sub-par Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The worse hotel experience of my life!"
Horrible. the hotel has no air conditioning in the entire building, that is totally unacceptable. If I opened the windows, the emergency stairway was outside my window, a thief could come in. Besides could not open because the sun in the morning would hit the room, making me sweat, people in the garage in front of window could see in and the noise would […] not let me sleep. The view? homeless scavagging trash bin in front of hotel. The elevator took 10 mins to open, it was a 1920 slow rider that only fit a couple of people. Other guests I saw were complaining and disatisfied. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not Great"
I was on business travel and on my first night at 11:30 p.m. had to complain to front desk and to Expedia about extremely loud rock music from the hotel bar; while water at basin was hot, water in shower never got to lukewarm; no closet, no hangers, no place to put clothes, etc, except on couch. Might be a good hotel if traveling for more casual purposes, […] but completely unsatisfactory for business traveler . . . though the location is fantastic Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Unbearable noise and rude staff"
The hotel is in a fantastic part of the city and there were aspects of the hotel that were nice. However, my room was incredibly small and there were cracked tiles in the bathroom shower (no tub). The worst part was the unbearable noise. Right after midnight, there garbage trucks that came down the alley next to the hotel and extraordinarily loudly, […] clanged dumpsters against the cement for almost an hour. There was continual noise throughout the entire night, including trucks backing up in the alley and constant noise from police cars. At about 4:30 in the morning, it sounded like there a bulldozer that was right outside my window. Put bluntly, I slept less than 2 hours because of the cacophonous traffic. Unfortunately I was traveling for business and showed up for my meetings looking like, well I had slept for two hours the night before. Management was also a huge issue. When I went to complain the next day, the manager informed me that "there is nothing we can do about the fact that you are a light sleeper." Ultimately, I did convince him to at least move me to a higher floor, which, with expensive ear plugs I had to purchase, did help. The continental breakfast was another hassle. They constantly were out of things like coffee and orange juice (what other point is there to a continental breakfast). Again, when I went to ask about it, the manager told me that there were people working back there that would bring the coffee out momentarily. He did nothing to try and rectify the situation, as several guests and I waited another 20 minutes for the staff to show up with coffee. Finally, I took it upon myself to go into the back, where I found one person, texting away on his cell phone. Ahh, finally some coffee. I really would encourage you not to stay at this hotel. The rooms are small and nothing really special, the management doesn't care, and the noise is intolerable. There are many better options in the neighborhood. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Crescent SF - the lounge is really loud"
Our room was great, clean, comfortable and modern. However, the Crescent seems to be into the bar and music biz. more than the hotel biz. On a Monday night we found out they had a band and private party in their lounge until 12:00. When the music and party went on past midnight we inquired at the front desk. We were told there was nothing they could […] do. The music was so loud it vibrated our bathroom floor. I feel that there should have been full disclosure, that LOUD music would be part of our hotel experience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Sloppy housekeeping."
Pros -- The front desk service is always fantastic, the view was fantastic. I was on the 12th floor and had a view of Union Square. Elevator was working, and the free breakfast was great. Cons -- The fridge was broken (but the light was on, and there were beverages in the fridge, so it wasn't obvious that the fridge wasn't working), and my food went […] bad. Housekeeping was terrible. No refills for soap, shampoo, and lotion, even for a 4-night stay. They did not clean the glasses in the room that I used to eat yogurt either, and they didn't take away the dirty dishes, they just left it by the bedstand. The bed was made, but crumbs from breakfast were left on the bed. No counter space in bathroom. No tub. No full-length mirror. No work desk or work chair. The morning front desk guy didn't know anything about public transportation in San Francisco. For the price I expected a lot better. Maybe they should charge $50/night instead, because that's really what the experience is worth. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location but no air conditioning"
This is a small hotel in a good location -- two blocks from Union Square, but it has no air conditioning. You can open the windows, but because of the location, open windows make it rather loud, even on the top floor facing away from the street. The complimentary breakfast was alright (oatmeal, toast, bagels, coffee etc). Because of the lack of air […] conditioning, I would probably not stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Worst Hotel in San Fran - Hands Down!"
The Crescent San Francisco hotel is unquestionably the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Upon arrival we found a completely unprepared room without cups/glasses, tissues or most importantly a door on the bathroom. There was no door! You have to go to the bathroom with the door exposed so that the person you are with gets to see and hear it all. That […] should have been enough to send us to a new room but we had plans and left for the day. When we returned to the hotel we found an atmosphere more reminiscent of a new year’s eve party scene with hundreds of very drunk people in the 2nd floor bar area. We tried to join in for a drink but it was not a very friendly crowd but we did get to listen, or should I say feel, to the music up in our room for hours and hours. Upon waking up the next morning we found that our shower had no hot water and the bathroom was filthy. When we placed the floor towel on the disguising shag carpet rug in the bathroom the dirt and stains seeped through. The shower curtain was 10 inches too long and hung soaking wet on the bathroom floor. To top it all off, and perhaps the most disturbing part, there were blood stains in the bathroom. Stains were on both the vanity and the shower towel, which I did not find until after I had dried off with it. The hotel was unresponsive when we complained and quite frankly they could have cared less. Hands down the worst hotel I have ever stayed at and I have stayed at hundreds all over the world. ""Do Not Stay Here""
We stayed at The Crescent in San Francisco from the 11th - 14th September, 2011, and we were extremely disappointed. Our view was a dark alley which stored the dump masters, so at 5.22am every morning the rubbish would be collected which sounded like a bomb exploding. As for the room, well! There was not enough towels for the number of guests in the […] room and the safe and the mini fridge did not work. The hotel staff did replace the items immediately but these things should have been checked before checking guests into the room. There was a queen size bed for the adults and the children were given a futon bed to sleep on. The kids had to sleep on opposite ends of the futon because there was not enough room to sleep side by side. The futon was rock hard and the children would wake with back aches every morning. Reception said unfortunately there was nothing they could do for us. A continental breakfast was included each morning in the dining room. There was not a lot of variety and when you cut into apples for the kids and find the majority of the apple is bruised - its time to eat elsewhere. As for the lift, leave your room early to go out or use the stairs as it only takes 4 people with no luggage or 2 people and 2 suitcases. There is only 1 lift and it is so slow!!!!!!!!!. On our last day, it took us 30 minutes to to get 8 people and 8 suitcases down to reception to check out. We have never been so glad to check out of a hotel in all our travelling experience. "Hotel Crescent SF - Da evitare"
