My room was tiny but had everything I needed. The staff was friendly, and the breakfast was sufficient (and I actually liked having to take a tray back to my room to eat it). Nice quaint hotel in a good location very close to union square. Staff was excellent. Jodi was especially helpful and so pleasant. This was my second stay, though my first was better. I had a service problem in the restaurant/bar which offers free wine for hotel guests. (My boyfriend and I were asked to take our glass of wine in the hotel lobby, even though the restaurant/bar wasn't busy, and we weren't asked if we'd be paying for another glass of wine.) It can be a bit loud at times but then again, we were in the middle of the city so it's expected. This is an old, noisy place. Maybe this is a supply demand issue, but I felt that I got very little for my money. The room is small, feels like an old bed and breakfast and smells wierd. But the location is pretty good, the breakfast was ok, and there is intermittent free wireless.

This is a nice hotel - pleasant rooms, decent continental breakfast, etc. However, anyone who is larger than I am (6'1", 190 pounds) should inquire about the size of the bathrooms of the rooms that he or she is considering. The one in my room was tiny. If I had been any larger, I would have had a lot of trouble using the toilet and shower. This is a nice quaint old building - I'll give it that. And with old hotels, expect small rooms. However, for the price I do expect a comfortable bed, fresh linens, and clean conditions. But everything at Andrews seems to be ancient, linens and towels included. The bathroom is tiny and original. Tub didn't drain; sink is practically on top of the toilet. […] No space or mirrors to get ready. This hotel is in serious need of renovation. But the location is good; restaurant is great. Interesting - the manager went out of her way to accommodate a group of 6 "Occupiers", breaking the 2-person/room policy to allow them to stay in 1 room with their BMX bikes. The Andrews Hotel is a charming old hotel 2 blocks from Union Square. The rooms and especially, showers are small, but very comfortable. In SF, I don't spend a lot of time in the hotel and The Andrews is an excellent value and the staff are friendly and helpful.

We tried to put 2 business people on a local conference visit into a single-bed room, and that was not a good idea since the rooms are really quite small. The front desk was fairly inflexible in adapting to room changes. But in the end we were able to negotiate around their complex hotel code rules and get two single rooms for two people at a significantly […] increased price. Best to make sure that the person who books the room is the person who has the longest stay or you will get into philosophical discussions with the front desk clerk about who is in what room when. The walls are paper thin, but as long as you don't have loud neighbors, the stay is quite pleasant. So bring your earplugs just to be safe. The restaurant at the front entrance looks quite up-scale, though I regret I did not have time to have a meal there. If you book a hotel room on-site, there will be extra charges amounting to about $25 per night above the listed room price, so Expedia is definitely the way to book. Read more

The building pre-dates the Great Quake, with the original elevator working perfectly. Stayed here in December 2011 for a week. A single room, small, but with lots of lamps to read by, television, bathroom with tub and shower and good lighting. Staff was helpful with how to get where and to print out boarding passes. Neighborhood is a little patchy but just a couple of blocks from Union Square. I would stay here again.
