No complaints at all about this place except one--and for me it's a big one. I need my coffee and it's very difficult to get here. Sure, you can sit down to a meal at the restaurant and order it, but I need it in my room, first thing. I can't recall ever staying in a place where there wasn't some sort of coffee/tea service in the room. So you have to […] venture out a couple of blocks to one of the cafes, which are only open until early afternoon & closed Sunday, or walk several blocks to the Starbucks. The only reason I gave this hotel a 2 is because of the kitchen and bar staff, good service. The hotel staff and desk is a firm 1, I notified the front dest 3 times that the toilet in my room did not flush, nothing was done. Not a fan of the hotel Majestic...

As a non-business guest, I loved the Hotel Majestic's quaint decor, luxuriously comfortable beds and clean rooms. A frequent traveler, I wanted something off the beaten path and as unique as the city of San Francisco itself. I found everything I wanted at the Hotel Majestic. Hotel Majestic has a long history - it was built before the San Francisco fire in 1906 and has the reputation as the longest operating hotel in the area. It's known for it's Victorian style and is rumored to have a friendly ghost which haunts the 4th floor. I stayed on the 4th floor and am disappointed to say I was not visited by the famous apparition. An older hotel, the building has no central air conditioning system - not a problem considering the temperate climate of the area. The elevator is a bit quirky, but I didn't find the stairs a problem. The hotel is within an easy distance to local transportation and some nice restaurants. Shuttle service is available - but not free and must be reserved in advance. The Majestic boasts a restaurant and bar which serves breakfast and dinner. I had a delicious muffin and coffee for breakfast but had already made plans to eat elsewhere during my stay. The service was friendly and the dinner menu looked comparable in price and menu to area restaurants. I would definitely stay at the Hotel Majestic on future trips. Read more

The staff at this hotel are extremely nice and accommodating. The rooms are cozy and nice for the price. The area itself is quiet, safe and conveniently located if you want to explore various parts of the city. I called ahead and told them that I would be checking in late. I was told it would not be a problem, but I was forced to wait while they remade the reservation. I stayed at The Majestic many years ago with my kids because I wanted to treat them to a day/night in The City (even though we live 60 miles away). I chose this hotel because of its historic nature and reasonable price. I remembered the room being filled with antique furniture. I remembered the Victorian building and the old world "Victorian" feeling […] of the lobby, rooms and restaurant. When I wanted to stay in San Francisco again during my birthday I thought of The Majestic and decided to try it again remembering the fun we'd had years ago. Well, it was just as I remembered! When we checked in and went to our room I was surprised to see that they'd put us in a suite and not a regular double room (but only charged for a double). It was fabulous!! The furnishings and cleanliness made us feel really comfortable and happy. It was fun to open the double-hung windows and watch the rain outside, I wish I'd figured out how to start the gas fireplace because it looked inviting. The restaurant was inviting and the food was quite good. We ended up eating dinner and breakfast in the hotel's restaurant rather than going out into the cold and rain. I was looking for a hotel with character and not a super modern efficient place like you'd find near the airport. The Majestic is reminiscent of a fine old hotel that you'd find in cities in Europe. If you're comfortable with a large guesthouse feeling place, walking up carpeted stairs near the front desk, a slow antique elevator with character, then you'll really like The Majestic. Stains on our bed cover and the floor, NO Air-conditioning, no screens on the windows, the closet shook everywhere you walked. It smelled old. We literally booked another hotel within 5 minutes and left.

Other reviews were on the mark: the hotel is a little tattered around the edges, but is charming, comfortable, and (for San Francisco) inexpensive. If you need a 5-star resort, this is not the place. If you want a comfortable bed in a cozy room and can overlook the signs of age and wear, the Hotel Majestic may be just the place.

The hotel was just as expected from prior reviews; quaint and kinda hidden away. The stairs leading up to our 4th floor rooms were hillarious - they were bent and contorted and reminded me of a funny house at an amuesement park - but that only added to the charm. I would have ranked the hotel a 5, but the bar (which is really cute, even with the odd […] butterflies) didn't know how to make a Bloody Mary. Excuse me??? La chambre était petite, poussièreuse, et mal ventilée en l'absence de climatisation. Les chassis d'un autre âge laissaient entendre tous les bruits de la rue. Le mobilier tout aussi volumineux qu'inapproprié a dû connaître l'époque victorienne sans aucun doute vu son état ! Aucun service n'y est gratuit (pas de cafetière ou autre 'complimentary' package […] comme c'est le cas en usage aux USA). Riktigt charmigt hotell. Personalen var mycket trevliga och tillmötesgående. Bra bar och restaurang. Lätt att gå downtown men svårare att gå tillbaka då hotellet ligger på en höjd men bussen stannar precis utanför dörren.
