The hotel is nice and it has a great history being one of the oldest hotels. Also, the 4th for of the hotel is supposedly haunted. The beds are very small and the showers are bath tubs like from every haunted movie you've ever seen. The rooms are a good size though. Also, there is an extra $28 fee for valet parking.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Charming!"
Very charming hotel. Clean and within walking distance of major attractions. Vintage feel with plenty of character! Only downfall was the lack of air conditioning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was very small and no air condition but they did provide a box fan. Staff was very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is walking distance to several restaurants and we enjoyed the walk. Our room was nice and clean but very small. The bed was comfortable but really high which made watching tv difficult because the tv was set low. Overall it was a decent room for a one night stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Only merit was it's proximity to the hospital. Just ok. Very old. Nice bedGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"acceptable quality"
The hotel was acceptable for the price. Main objections were that the bed was waist high (no steps or stepstool available), and that the lighting was very dim overall. Luckily I brought a mirror so that I could sit under a lamp to do my make-up. And I was just barely able to climb up into bed. Someone younger and more agile would have been fine with […] that. The restaurant was borderline ok for breakfast, and ok for dinner but the bar was better for dinner if you did not want to go out. Many restaurants nearby--up or down hill. Two blocks from Van Ness and lots of public transportation if needed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Very convenient, comfortable hotel. They started vaccuuming the lobby at 5:30 in the morning, and the sound drifted into our room. There is a funny smell in the lobby.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"So-so"
Not very close to restaurants. The style was turn of the century but they seemed to have forgotten about ventilation. There were a number of fans by the elevator on my floor. Once I got in the room I understood why.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Okay hotel"
The oldest hotel in the city. It is a nice hotel for its era but the bed was very hard, and there is no ac...we stayed on the 5th floor and it was hot we had a hard time sleeping. The resturant and bar is also closed on Mondays which would of been nice to know. It was a nice place but I feel like it should have been better for what we paid.Genuine Expedia guest review
"noise"
The only thing that I did not like was the noise. When people close their doors, they sounds like slamming-no quiet during the night. It was disturbing.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Old Classic San Francisco Hotel"
In the oldest standing building in San Francisco, The Majestic gives a taste of old school in Pacific Heights. The location is great, but the rooms are small and the bathrooms worn. The lobby is wonderful and has a remarkable collection of antique French books. I recommend this hotel for those who want a taste of old San Francisco. But with no desk […] and tight surroundings its hard to do anything but sleep there. The place has character. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Checked in and left within a few hours. Room was small and the building was old, hadn't been renovated in years it seemed. That can be expected in an old city like San Francisco. Not a single complaint about the service as they would probably wipe your shoes if you asked them. Just wasn't our fitGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Majestic - SF"
My only complain are two (2) things: The shower in the room no pressure at all & the curtain would not close completely. At the bar: Did have main ingrents to make a basic drink; bar area nice, but liquor selection poor. Otherwise the hotel was Ok; & yes location was excellent.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Get a good room"
The quality of the rooms vary. My room was very small and at the head of stairs on second floor, so I could hear people coming in until about midnight. My friend had a bigger room on corner of second floor but it was noisy due to traffic at corner. So, book directly and try to get something on the upper floors and with some space. Bus downtown was easy, […] as was cab ride. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good enough"
Not a speactacular place-older, run down some. But- in a great and quiet location, in between Fillmore on one side and downtown on the other. Near enough restaurants. Price vs. convenience vs. location- winner.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just okay"
The place was reasonably acceptable but nothing special. The place looked old and shabby although reasonable clean. I did not see anything particularly charming or romantic there. The hotel is on the rather busy corner and it was pretty noisy at night due to traffic, accelerating vehicles, honking, motorcycles, the works. There are no amenities such […] as workout room or wireless but overall it is an okay place to spend a night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not bad"
Hearkening back to byegone days. On the street parking. Don't pay the silly valet parking fee. It's falling apart, but the managers have put effort into stabilizing the decay. Rather charming. No daily papers (as advertised) or free coffee. The ice machines on every floor were broken. We got a good city view from our window. It's not in a neighborhood […] as such, but if you want inexpensive access to downtown, this will do. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Hotel Majestic - Choose a chain hotel instead"
While the building was gorgeous and the room cute, our stay was not nearly as good had we stayed at a regular chain motel. There is mandatory valet parking, to the amount of $25 a day. It would have been cheaper to use taxis during our stay. The bathroom tub was clogged, the tub was crampt and not great for showers, and the door to the bathroom was […] broken at the handle, so if you weren't careful, you could get trapped in the bathroom. The room was tiny, the hotel only offering either one full or one queen bed per room (what are 2 sisters traveling supposed to do?). There was a tiny TV with no channel guide. The AC didn't work, so the room was stuffy unless you had a window open, which of course led to traffic and street noise. I will say, that though the accomodations weren't great, the staff was very helpful in finding us local dining experiences in walking distance. San Francisco is gorgeous, but if you're getting a hotel there, get one of the chain hotels near Fisherman's Wharf. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel in need of a New Bed!"
We really enjoyed the charm of the Majestic. The handicap room that was given to us.. on the other hand was a bit outdated and in need of repair and a new bed. Horrible bed, small tv, ripped curtains, windows that would not stay open, pillows that smelled like dirty head or hair, really bad. I just want to make sure if you book this hotel... please […] go up and look at room first!! We are pretty simple guys and don't get bothered too easily,, but this was pretty bad. I know it was just a bad room (511) and I know there are some amazing rooms there. It was my 20yr anniversary, so I was a bit bummed. Anyhoo... I will stay at the Majestic again .. but I will go up and check room first!! And I would advise you do the same. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Oldest hotel in San Fran"
Really nice old hotel wth original decor and large rooms, but also the carpets hold that dated smell as well! Front desk staff was lazy in our eyes but concierge helped direct us our way throughout the city!! Walking distance to japan town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Outdated and a bit run down, and confusing."
The hotel staff didn't really seem to know what was going on. The first night, we were assigned the wrong room. We walked in on a couple laying in bed. All of us stared awkwardly at each other, while the elevator staff shook his head saying that it wasn't his fault. The hotel itself was about twenty minutes from union square, which was nice, and looked […] like it would have been really nice thirty or forty years ago, but the room was seriously outdated and smelled like old carpets. Our window was broken and we had to use an old book to prop it open to airate the room. We stayed for a week, but we made the most of it. We didn't come to San Francisco for the hotel, thankfully. "Good value for money"
Stayed he for 5 days. Hotel Majestic offs good value for your money. The rooms are a little old but I actually liked that. Evything was really clean. the staff were helpful and friendly.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Mediocre"
The hotel was ok, but just ok, there were some stains on the carpet and bed spread, wallpaper peeling in the bathroom, the bed wasn't the comfiest I've ever slept in, watching tv in bed was not the most ergonomic either. All in all I wasn't massively impressed, but it was fine as a base and the location is fairly central to all the different areas of […] the city and a short walk to the California line trolley car. I had no interaction with staff beyond checking in and checking out, so hard to rate them. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It takes a certain type to like this hotel. Having recently been to Europe I didn't mind the old style and small room, however I wouldn't recommend staying here in summer, in mid march the room was extremely warm to the point of needing paper to hold both windows up as one window wouldn't do. The location was great for us as it allowed us to explore […] the whole of San Fran and not be stuck in the tourist areas which should be avoided. Recommend checking out Polk street for a good cheap eat where all the locals seem to hang out, plus Wholefoods supermarket is only two blocks away for some tasty treats. Overall I would recommend this hotel to certain people. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not too friendly."
We were drawn to this hotel because of its history and we were not disappointed. We loved the old furnishings and touches, however all but one of the staff we dealt with seemed disinterested and unfriendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient but rundown hotel"
The hotel was very convenient and the room was a reasonable size (the bathroom was big!). Although being an older hotel provides some charm (the four-post bed was a cool novelty) I found the hotel to be pretty rundown. The lift didn't always work (the door wouldn't close), one of my bed lamps flickered and looked electrically unsafe, the hairdryer didn't […] work, the air conditioner was temperamental. All in all the convenience was enough to make the hotel bearable but I probably wouldn't go back when other hotels for around the same price would probably score higher. Shop around!
