Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman's Wharf.

The hotel was lovely. Enjoyed the View lounge on 39th floor. Could have looked out at that incredible view all night. The only disappointment was the room. Didn't mind that it was a bit small as much as it faced the street and you could hear all the traffic - pedestrian and auto even on the 12th floor. Glad I brought earplugs or would not have been […] able to sleep. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needs some updating but location good"
Me and my son stayed for two nights for a quick site seeing trip. The front desk staff is very welcoming and friendly. Our room was really large (especially for San Francisco) but also very dated and in need of a refresh. The desk and side chairs were stained and the rest of the room needed to be updated. The flat panel TV in the room was too small […] for the size of the room. The two queen beds were comfortable and clean. Front desk staff was great but when we visited the lobby and top floor lounges they only had one server working the floor, they did inidicate that they were the only ones working and that it would be best to order at the bar rather then waiting for service. It would be good if the hotel adds some staff as both lounges were very busy and i'm sure there is someone who wouldn't mind making the tip money. The hotel is near the Powell Cable Car turn around, Market street trolly cars, Bart station, shopping, convention center and baseball park so it is in a great location. For quick trips were you won't be in the room much but want a good location and comfortable bed this is a good hotel (if the price is right). If you want a more up to date room (or they are charging a premium) I would go some where else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good, well located hotel"
Nice, clean well located hotel.... the only problem we faced is that it was oversold and we had to wait until they clarified with expedia and provided a temporary room .... this was extremely uncomfortable mainly when arriving tired at night afeter been driving for hours...Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not the best service..."
Overall, not a bad experience but they only had 2 bedrooms with 1 king bed in each of it for 4 adults and 3 kids... They provided inflatable mattresses for the first night (but didn't do the bed!) and moved us to two 2 queen beds bedrooms for the end of our stay. Their reaction was really disappointing as we had to ask for everything (inflattable mattresses, […] compensation, move to other rooms...) and they kept blaming Hotels.com for not having let us know that they didn't have the right rooms available... not a great customer consideration and service. "Very nice but:"
Loved the hotel's position in San Francisco, close to everything. What we did not like was no microwave to heat up food we bought at other places, now I realize that hotels frown on this but I bought a great bottle of wine from Napa and corkerage fees at the hotel was outrageous. Another small item was no fan vent in the bathroom area, talk about the […] fog in San Fran, you get the message. Other than that we loved the place. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Room was dirty, and not worth the price tag.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location and views. Lobby area is very nice and valet was fast. Check-in was extremely slow. Probably 20 people in line and front desk staff would fluctuate from 5 down to 2 and so on. Needs better efficiencies at the front desk. The room we had was not updated in 10 years when we last stayed. Rooms are dated probably 20 years.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice but basic"
A double bed room was reserved over a month in advance as I was traveling with my daughter. No double bed rooms were available upon my arrival and I was forced to sleep on a portable cot as an accommodation. The complimentary breakfasts had a decent selection. There are NO vending machines - you have to buy snacks & refreshments elsewhere.Genuine Expedia guest review

"New Linens on Old Beds"
This hotel is a mixture of good and not so good. While the room was nice to look at, and the bedding was cozy, the actual beds were not comfortable at all. Additionally, the bathroom pipes were very noisy - I knew to jiggle the shower button to get it to stop - my neighbor did not (at 7am). We were told that our room was on the "quiet side", but a compressor […] unit went off at 7:13am in the museum parking lot, and the church bells rang at 7:33! The pool looked much more luxurious in the online photos, but was not very warm and kinda - ehhh....Still wondering why there was a local gang member in the hot tube with us, making out with his girlfriend (who had the class to swim away). Thought I'd gotten a great deal on a classy place...but it was just...good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bed is too soft"
I travel with my husband and 12 yrs old daughter. Hotel give me 2 full size bed that was fine. But the bed was so soft and small. They tell me the two bed is over size full bed that was wrong. After 4 night I ask them if we can change to another room with harder bed. They said all the bed is soft the only way is to add a hard bord under the mattress. "Great location, poor hotel"
This hotel is superbly located. Unfortunately, overall quality is somewhat poor, which explains the affordable price for SF.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A bit disappointed"
The lobby of the hotel was nice but the room was quite unimpressive. Our 'king' sized bed was only a queen, and half of the desk was taken up with precariously balanced mini-bar items that would charge automatically if disturbed. I'll try somewhere else next time.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Marriot Marquis San Francisco"
This is the third time we have stayed in this hotel with reservations made through hotels.com. In each visit we were given rooms on the lowest floors with no views, the last visit our room had a window looking over an interior atrium. This is in a hotel with 38 floors of rooms in multiple towers. Can only assume that we were relegated to these rooms […] due to our room rate. The rooms have seen better days and the furniture looks dirty. Not sure we will stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location"
While the staff was great, the downside to a large hotel is that checking in on a Friday afternoon took almost thirty minutes. And, while the room was okay, the sound transference through the connecting doors was bad. The couple might as well have been staying in my room with me.Genuine Expedia guest review
Everything except for the check in was great. When I got there at 6:00 PM, they awared me that my room had not been cleaned by the maids yet and they were all booked and couldn't switch my room, that they would take down my number and call me with in the hour until my hotel room was ready. When I asked for the manager twenty minutes later because we […] were sick of waiting, she pressed a couple buttons on the computer and switched us to a different room no problem. "It was alright I guess"
The hotel was nice, nothing impressive. No continental breakfast, no WiFi. You would think there would be a few more extra perks to such a nice place. The concierge desk was excellent by the way. "So-So Hotel"
This Hotel was ok. They didnt really have any good dining options. Be aware that if you order room service or drink anything from the mini-bar there will be a lot of extra charges. A 14 sandwich ended up costing almost 30 bucks and a jack daniels that stated that it was 7 dollars ended up being 12. When we checked in we asked if our room had a view. […] She switched us to a corner room which was smaller than the other rooms. Not pleased. This is a business hotel. I needed to print my boarding pass and I had to pay to get on a computer and then pay to print at the fedex kinkos. Anyway, I am tired of all of these hotels and their hidden charges and taxes, etc. etc. I wouldnt stay here again. It was a little outdated as well. The location was good. "Nice but expensive"
It's a Marriott and I have found Marriotts meet a consistent standard. For this reason and that it was located close to the event I attended made it worthwhile. The hotel was nice, but having said that I missed not having a coffee pot in my room forcing one to choose room service for an arm and a leg or going down to the lobby to wait in line at Starbucks. […] At their restaurant Eggs Benedict and a coffee will set you back $30 and a glass of orange juice of unknown size will cost $8. The View bar on top of the building is nice and again somewhat pricey. The drinks are strong which I think is designed to keep you there consuming. The concierge and other employees were quite excellent at answering questions. I would not choose this hotel for personal trips because of the expense. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Everything else is good except Noisy"
The hotel is at a great location of downtown San Francisco with walking distance to many stores and good restaurants. Everything is expected except it's noisy at night. I can hear neighbors opening and closing their doors and someone next door flushing toilets. Every early morning, I was waken up by a bell striking 15 (?) times somewhere outside.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Toliet Problems"
We stay with Marriot most of our travel. We have never had a complaint before and that is why we stay with theym. We were very happy with the size and cleanliness of the room. We had problems with the toliet being stopped up the entire trip. We called once or twice a day to have them fix. They came and plunged but it stopped right back up. The last […] time we called they didn't come at all. We had to use the lobby restroom to go to bathroom. It was very inconvenient. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not worth the money"
For the price of the room, we were expecting some sort of view of the outside world. Our view consisted of the conference rooms in the lobby area, and that night, we could see and hear the sound of the party/disco ball going on downstairs. The toilet ran all night long, and all of the electrical sockets in the bathroom quit working that night after […] minimal use. We attempted to order a movie and had to eventually cancel the order after 20min of waiting. The hotel was nice, and I'm sure there were better rooms, but I've gotten better rooms at better hotels for the price we paid. Based on our experience, we'll be booking rooms at the previous hotel we visited last year. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I arrived in my Tahoe and was told that overnight parking at the hotel was $60! I paid the fee and went up to my room where my boyfriend accidentally bumped in to a water bottle that was placed on a stand with other food items by the tv. We were charged $7 for moving the bottle (it wasn't even open). At check out they tried to charge us $80 for parking […] because I had an "over sized vechile" which is pretty entertainig because when the man told me the charge of parking my car overnight I was sitting in my car!! I had to fight to get the additional $20 parking charge and the $7 charge off of my bill and it is still on my credit card! As we left we decided to grab breakfast at the hotel the food was cold, gross and way over priced. I'm talking eggs, bacon and toast for $20+!!! The only way I would stay at this hotel again is if they paid me! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Marriot Marquis San Francisco"
The hotel itself was fine. I blame myself for not making dinner reservations earlier. My big problem with this visit was with "The View" lounge on the top floor. The bartender and waitress was trying their best - but seriously, a holiday saturday at 5 (during their happy hour) and there is only one bartender? It took an hour after we ordered our drinks […] to finally get them, and the appetizers (cold mushy, and not what we ordered, came 20 minutes after that - waitress comped without being asked). Apparently one bartender called in sick. If I were the manager I would be pouring drinks myself. I almost asked for a glass of ice to pour the mini vodka in I had purchased earlier - but the waitress was so busy didn't get a chance. I have been a bartender and a waitress, and seriously - should not take a lounge owned by the Marriot An hour to make a cosmo, martini, and pour a glass of wine. I could have done that myself. God forbid we tried to order room service. Luckily I remembered an indian place around the corner that provided us with a decent meal. The whole evening we kept asking - we should have paid the extra to stay at the Palomar across the street. Each Martini was $15 and took an hour. Palomar's free wine at 5 (sure it's crappy, but it's free and fast - They just stand there and pour it; intstant gratification) would have been much more relaxing than this painful experience. Plus the rooms are much bigger. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and price--old rooms."
The location and price were great. Very friendly staff. We were also able to check-in 2 hours early, which was very helpful. While the lobby was lovely, the rooms and hallways are very dated. Our room felt old and not entirely clean (popcorn cieling, the bed linens had stains, etc). Overall, it served its purpose based on the great location and price. […] The little time we spent in the room made the experience worth it. If you have a chance go to the bar at the top for at least one drink, do it...the views are amazing and worth the cost of the (ridiculously overpriced) drink. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Loud"
Both nights I slept terribly because of the noise in the alley. There was loud dumping 2 times per night, that sounded like construction debris (not just a regular garbage pick-up). Will not stay there again, there are plenty of other similar hotels in San Francisco that are much more comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"very comfortable hotel , but find an other parking space - do not use the hotel vale !!"
Hotel was comfortable with large rooms , also very well located as you can reach most of the points of interest on foot . But the parking and vale was very expensive for hotel guests , there should be discount for the ones already staying in the hotel .Genuine Expedia guest review

"Expensive Location"
This is a large hotel best suited for conventions. Very expensive for the tourist---parking at $59.00 per day; internet access $14.95; bottle of water $5.00!!! If you have money to burn and want to be right in downtown, go for it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location and staff, but wouldn't go back"
I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights after booking a fairly last minute break, and chose Marriott having had a great experience with the Park Lane, London hotel. Whilst the staff were great at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, I was glad not to be staying longer. The lobby and other shared areas look very nice indeed, but I felt that the room was quite […] outdated compared with similar hotels I've stayed in, and wifi was not included, but the bed was comfortable. The spa treatment I had was interesting; if you stay here, I wouldn't recommend it. It's attached to the gym and seems like an afterthought. Again, lovely staff, but lacking finesse. I had a hot stone massage and felt like I was being pelted with the stones at one stage. Add to that the sounds coming from the gym changing rooms, and it wasn't that great! Location is fantastic; right by the shops and easily walkable distance to many of the places of interest, such as Fishermans Wharf. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. I'd rather pay more to stay elsewhere. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Convenient for downtown San Francisco and shopping"
Hotel is conveniently situated. Staff are very helpful and keen to please. Room was ready for an early check-in, and they gave us an extra hour for check-out as well, so no complaints on that score. The only reason we haven't scored the hotel higher is that the beds were not very comfy (slightly saggy mattress) and out of sight areas could have been […] cleaner. Hotel feels a little 'tired'. The 1st room I was allocated didn't have hot water, it was mildly luke warm. I chose to change rooms unfortunately next to an elevator which sounded like the BART running up the wall.
