"Nice, Accomodating Staff but Stinks of Subway!!"
The staff was friendly and helpful. We rented a suite for 2 people. The bathroom door was a see-through glass so this did not work well for a business trip for 2 people. Also, the room and bathroom smelled horribly strong of the Subway sandwich shop next door. REALLY unpleasant smell. The shower had no pressure at all and bath products always needed […] to be requested to be re-stocked. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Abri - Union Square Dear Mallory- Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your recent stay. I'm glad that you enjoyed the staff; I have an amazing team and they really love making an impact on our guests' experience of San Francisco. I'm so sorry that the Subway baking bread smell bothered you! I guess it is a love or hate thing. The Oasis Suite that you had does have the Jack & Jill bathroom that is nice because it can be entered from either the bedroom or living room, but I totally understand that the frosted glass doors are not as suitable for a business trip when sharing. We do have some Urban Suites, which are slightly smaller, but still have the separate living room with door that closes, that have baths with solid doors and are away from the wafting of the Subway baking ovens. We also normally have great water pressure so I apologize that there was an issue with your valve or showerhead and will have that checked. Once again, I'm sorry that you had issues during your stay, and hope that you will consider giving the Abri a second chance when your travels return you to San Francisco! Yours in hospitality- Rob Brehant General Manager
Very poor shower water pressure; leaking right sink faucet handle when in use. Room with one tiny window opening on inside of building. No exercise room. But served its purpose as a comfortable place to sleep during a meeting, and problems above were not a huge deal to me.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, great renovation, and great staff!"
We stayed in the king deluxe room, and it was definitely a larger room than most hotels in SF, especially consider the age of the building. The room was very nicely renovated, and the TV includes many HBO channels!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

This was a really nice hotel in the middle of everything in SF. It had everything I expect from a high-end hotel. The lobby was also very nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"good central location to many areas + waterfront"
Positives - The hotel was in a central location that made it easy to get to many of the different sections including the wharf area. The trolley was nearby but much of it was walkable if you are in okay shape. Downstairs, the restaurant and bar were large and provided an easy, decent meal or a well prepared cocktail. In my interaction with the staff […] for valet, directions, or just general questions, they were all very friendly and helpful. As long as the rooms are clean, I value this more than any other amenity. The rooms was very clean but the bathroom could have used a little repair work and a better paint job. It was also fairly small. The only other negatives were a choice between tap water with an off taste or expensive Voss water. Overall, i would return to this hotel primarily based on location and the excellent service from their staff. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good choice"
There are so many choices in Union Square and they do a nice job here. Lively happy hour at Puccini and Pinetti which is connected to the hotel. TINY rooms, but well appointed. Very convenient to everything. Short walk to Sears for breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient location and good price"
The room I stayed in was a very small inside room. Pretty quiet except for the pigeons. Strong mildew smell which gave me a headache. First clerk I told offered me a noisy outside room to switch. Second clerk at the end of my stay apologized and comped me one night of parking and promised to do something about it. Nice soaps and lotions and linens - […] not very comfortable bed or pillows. If you have been in a cruise ship bathroom, that's about the size of this room's bathroom with no tub, just a shower. Great location - two blocks from my seminar and reasonable rates for valet parking. The front doorman was so thoughtful and great customer service. If they clean up the mildew smell, I'd stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Questionable neighborhood, but decent place"
For the money, it's a good place. Rooms were a little small, but the beds were comfortable, and the place was clean. Not so sure about the music they had pumping through the lobby and on the street. Wasn't sure if I was walking into a hotel or a club. So, at least the place was decently designed. The bar next door was pretty busy too. The location is […] pretty good in that BART is about 2 blocks away, and from Union Square it's pretty easy to get just about anywhere in the city for less than a $15 cab ride. At the same time, Union Square is tourist central, so if you don't like the tourist scene, then this is probably not the area you want to stay. So, while the location is largely tourist friendly, it is also on the fringe of the tourist friendly area. A few blocks in the wrong direction (away from the bright lights), and you may find yourself briskly returning to the warm glow. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel Abri was a great find. It is just around the corner from Powell St which is a lively area and super close to a BART station. The hotel has a European feel to it. My room was small but very quiet and well appointed with interesting furnishing. Don't stay here if you are looking for a cookie cutter hotel room. Abri has a nice vibe, great counter […] staff, and great location. I recommend a stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't DO IT!!"
The room was ok. But, the area around the hotel is SCARY! The elevators broke down and I was on the 5th floor. The stairs are STEEP!! Good luckGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Abri - Union Square First of all, thank you for taking the time to give us feedback following your stay. I'm glad that you found the accomodations satisfactory, but am very sorry for the inconvenience caused by the fact that we did have one of our two elevators out of service for a few hours over the weekend. We are currently working on some modifications to our elevators to improve service in the future, although I do certainly understand the frustration of delays, and so I apologize. As for our area, I'm not sure where your exploring took you, but we are located in Union Square in the heart of the City, which borders the Tenderloin neighborhood, and this area does provide for some colorful characters, that is for sure. I'm sorry that you felt alarmed. I hope that when your travels return you to San Francisco, you will consider returning to the Hotel Abri!
"Hotel Abri in San Francisco"
The hotel is walking distance to Union Square and the Powell St BART station. Hotel is well kept with a courteous staff. A restaurant, Puccini & Pinetti is connected to the hotel. Good food and has a local crowd. The hotel has rooms that face the street and rooms that are around an interior open space (not to be considered a courtyard) so there is no […] street noise. The rooms have flat panel TV and work desk with free WiFi in the room. My room was small as it is an older hotel. Would stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Abri- Great location"
This hotel is in a great location. Close to BART, cable cars, buses, shopping and dining. All the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are small but nice. They have a good happy hour in the attached restaurant. I would definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Abri in Union Square"
While the location is good, the room I was in really stuffy and had a musty odor. Pigeons were using the window air conditioner as a toilet. The tv system is very slow to respond. The bed was cozy. Overall, I'm surprised this hotel has such a high rating.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cozy and super friendly"
Have stayed in a lot of hotels in this same neighborhood. Loved Abri and would stay here again. Street gets a little noisy, but it is the big city. Handy to MAX and taxis. Bed was super comfy and had the BEST Robes ever.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Allow 30 minutes to retrieve your car"
This hotel is swanky new remodel in a very old building - no complaints...attached restaurant was great...check in service fair...biggest issue is that everyone seems to wait 30minutes for their car...the valet indicated that the parking is shared by 18 hotels with 10 valet staff currently...also, routine street noise was minimum, but early wake up […] by garbage trucks or some similar noise that lastest for an hour or more. "Very good quality/price ratio"
- The hotel is located nearby Union Square and all a few blocks from the financial district. I did not use any of the public transportation but there seemed to be lots of options around. - Plenty of shops and restaurants just next to the hotel. - Hotel is VERY modern and good looking. Clean and amable service overall... Lobby is small but very classy. - […] the only downside for some people could be the noise (they offered me a room giving to the back of the hotel to avoid street noise but coming from NY, ambient noise was not an issue for me). They also give you ear plugs if you want. - the AC unit in the window did not give much heat (the weather was a bit cold for the season). I had to leave it on while going out for dinner in order to have the room at good temperature when I came back. - Free Wifi Internet (a must-have for me) - Free coffee in the lobby in the morning, free cocktail shot in the afternoon... nice touch! Overall excellent experience in this small but neat hotel... would definitely go back, the price was about half the price you'd pay for a Sheraton or other big name hotel (in which I usually stay) but this ABRI hotel doesn't really lack any of the luxury you'd get in those more expensive hotels.... just in smaller version :) Keep the good work! "Better than I expected"
I booked this hotel based on proximity to a conference I was attending. I was somewhat apprehensive based on negative comments people made in many of the reviews. I asked for an interior room, as suggested, and it was very quiet. The room was nice, with plenty of space, big bathroom, clean and everything worked (It was a deluxe king, I think). The staff […] were all friendly, helpful and knowledgable about the area. The location is excellent. I would stay at this hotel again and absolutely recommend it to anyone going to San Francisco. "Conference at Moscone West"
I stayed here for a two day conference at Moscone West. The walk was relatively short, just a few blocks, and it was convenient to tons of other shopping and activities as well. This was my second stay here, and both times were consistent with each other. The hotel is well kept with clean and modern rooms. The staff is helpful and courteous. The rooms […] are a bit small, but this isn't unique to this hotel, in SF, every hotel has smaller rooms. I did forget my shaving razor this time, and they brought me a disposable to use at no charge. Unexpectedly, they also brought shaving cream. It did take about 30 mins to bring it to my room, but I can't fault them, I did ask for it during what was likely their morning rush (7 am). And that 30 mins was still less than it probably would have taken for me to run over to Walgreens (also near by) to get one. I highly recommend them and will continue to stay here when I am in town. "Hoete Abri in San Franciso - great location"
Plus was the location and friendly staff; and the free internet access and newspapers. Minuses were the noise of the people above our bedroom both late at night and early morning; and the uncomfortable bed for a tall person like me.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Tiny tiny room!"
Thank God my husband and I only stayed one night! Yes, I know it's San Francisco but this room was TINY - you could barely walk around the bed! There was also a window air conditioner that didn't work and was LOUD!! Good thing we were exhausted when we checked in at 10pm. Do yourself a favor and skip this place!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Abri - Union Square Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay. I'm sorry that you were unhappy with the size of the room. The Hotel Abri has rooms that vary in size quite a bit. Some are on the smaller side, which is typical of hotels in San Francisco that occupy older buildings. We were build in 1904 as a residential apartment building with 200 units and were converted to a hotel with 91 rooms in the 1970's. The hotel was closed for almost a year in 2007 for a complete renovation and we opended as the Hotel Abri in October of 2008 as a hip, urban oasis. I'm sorry that you had an issue with the air conditioner as well. Our units usually get rave reviews due to the ease of use and quick cooling of the guestrooms. I wish that you had stayed longer so that we could have addressed your issues and possibly turned you into a fan of the Abri. When your travels return you to San Francisco I hope that you would consider giving us a second chance!
"Great hotel!"
I was traveling to San Fran for buiness and wanted a decent place in the city near the Bart line. This hotel surpassed all of my expectations. "Nice little place in a great neighborhood"
Older building, nicely updated. A/C is by window unit rather than central; I cracked open a window for some fresh air instead. I had a nice studio, with a comfortable sitting area leading to a bedroom with one queen bed and a small but nice bathroom beyond.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean, pretty, small, noisy"

"The hotel Abri- union square"
Nice hotel, very friendly staff, neat room, and very good location--close to the heart of the city. The room was very small but classy. The only complain I have is that the air conditioning made loud noise, which I had to turn it off to be able to sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel, but with weird service at night"
Hotel Abri is probably the nicest hotel in this star range at Union Square that I've stayed at recently. I staydd here for five nights on business. The rooms are comfortable and quiet (if you get one facing the interior), the amenities are nice, and the staff is generally friendly. Two things bothered me, though: 1) there's no gym on-site; instead you […] have to go to their sister hotel to use one for free, and even then it closes at 10 pm. And 2) the front desk attendant on the night shift is a little bit weird - nice, but weird. I still recommend Abri for just about everyone if you can get a good rate. "Abri adds value if you are on a budget"
Location for this hotel is very good for access to downtown and Embarcadero. And the staff is excellent. I think this spot just needs a facelift. Things seem a little tired and I did have cold water on the last morning of my stay. Of greater concern is just two blocks up Ellis heading away from Market it gets pretty rough. San Fran is full of bums and […] panhandlers. I stepped out of my rental heading for the front door and was immediately panhandled. Welcome to San Francisco. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Abri"
At check-in they asked if I would like an internal room or one facing the street. They said that the rooms facing the street could be noisy.
