I now know why this hotel is the flagship in the Fairmont chain. We stayed in the Stuart suite, and the views of San Francisco was incredible! The location cannot be beat. Our stay was wonderful. This is an absolutely gorgeous hotel which was decorated beautifully for Christmas. If you are a problem walker, the elevators are a long way from the lobby, and the rooms need a comfy upholstered chair in which to sit and read or admire the view. This hotel was conveniently located in the lovely Nob Hill neighborhood, close to cable cars and bus lines, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. I stayed there because of the Tonga Restaurant. The hotel was amazing but very pricey. It was a nice treat though but the location was not optimal for anything to do. The cable cars were right outside but I prefer the Wharf area so it is probably just my preference. The room was elegant but old and the windows were very dirty. Internet was expensive […] but the bed was extremely comfortable. The restaurant, Tonga, was fun with a live band on Saturday. I just prefer to spend that kind of money in a hotel nearer more action. The SF Fairmont has the look of an old-world 5-star hotel but sadly several small little details keep it from being a 5-star hotel. First off: when I asked the concierge where I could mail some letters I was told there was a mailbox just outside and around the corner from the entrance. Not a huge deal, I can certainly walk & the weather was cold but […] clear but really? There is no collection box inside, even for their own mail? Second: We had reservations for The Tonga Room for dinner and we arrived a few minutes early to find a 15-20 person line in front of us, some with reservations as well, some without & yet the answer from the hostess was just stay in line & we'll get to you in turn. The last complaint was probably equally our fault, we thought it would be easy to get reservations for their Holiday Tea as a hotel guest but that fact seemed to not matter one bit to the maitre d who bluntly told us the next available table would be after Christmas, 10 days from our visit. On the plus side, the valet parking albeit expensive, was helpful to a fault, even alerting us that our destination (The Disney Family Museum) may not be the best choice for our 2yr old of we were looking for Mickey Mouse, et al. Also: keep in mind this place is BIG so be prepared to walk to your room, the lobby, dinner, etc. Read more

Great location but the front desk talked us into a room with a "view". It wasnt much of a view and there was a loud utility vehicle washing windows outside the room for two hours starting at 07:30 in the morning. That wasn't pleasant. If you are planning to wash the windows, dont "upgrade" people to the window washee room please..

For the Christmas season, the hotel is a great place to stay. They have a magnificent ginger bread house built in the entry area and finished by the hotel chefs with home made frosting and graham crackers. Amazing, especially for the kids!!!

This was our second stay at the Fairmont and we cannot say enough about the hotel. We believe the Fairmont is a very secure hotel- hosting many famous people over the years. Our room was in the Tower with a great view of the bay and Alcatraz. The bed was very comfortable and the bath area has a deep tub along with a glass enclosed shower. The front […] desk staff was most friendly and helpful. The hotel helped us book some tours which were most enjoyable and informative. We found some great local places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. Dinner at the Tonga Room was a treat with thunder and lightening and a tropical downpour (rain ending up in the former pool). The lobby is great for people watching- and relaxing with a drink. I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who appreicates a hotel with style and great service. Read more

This is a very nice hotel -- no secret there. Nice restaurant, very well trained if sort of awkwardly deferential staff. My wife and I and youngster visited for a few days this summer. On one hand it's pretty close to Chinatown and other interesting spots. Plus the views up there are fantastic. (Our little guy loved watching the streetcars passing by […] our window in four directions.) On the other hand, it's really high up. I don't think of myself as a complete wimp, but pushing that stroller up Mount Nob was kind of a downer. Anyway, if you're cabbing or not a complete wimp, go for it. Management treated us like second-class citizens, putting us out of our rooms and making us check back in when we had confirmed our rooms three times!!! This was, at best, a 6-motel rate experience. Just awful...nobody knew what they were doing.

It's a beautiful hotel, and very comfortable. It was very convenient to China Town and for taking the cable car to Fisherman's Wharf. The nightly parking fee is excessively high! And they automatically add a 15% tip to the meal in the main restaurant.

I was disappointed in this hotel rated four star. The room was old. My ear was hurting during shower because the shower head made a lot of noise. As long as the air conditioner was on, the entire floor was shocking. I took my parents there for a short weekend trip, but my parents cant even sleep at night because of the air conditioner.

The location is great, though at the top of some very steep hills. However it is on the cable car route. Near to Union Square for shops and restaurants and Nob Hill is a quiet area. We checked into the Fairmont for our last leg of a 4 week family vacation however there was some confusion with our booking and I am not sure if we got the room (Suite) that we booked. The room we received Pakistan Suite was great however there was no bedding for our children until a rollaway bed was provided. the location was great with good access […] to Cable cars to either Fishermans Wharf or Shopping district. The staff were very polite and helpful and we had a chance run in with the General Manager who was very welcoming. 家族三人で宿泊。ユニオンスクエア・中華街にも散歩感覚でいける。市内の移動はタクシーを使ってもチップ含め10ドル以内で済みます。ロビーレベルにある朝食のレストランは高い。前の夜に果物買って食べ、後は外に出て飲茶とか食べてましたが、これが美味しくて大満足。部屋の冷蔵庫は中の物を出したら課金されるしくみ。果物冷やすのに毎日出し入れしていたので後でびっくり。でも事情を話したら笑顔で許してくれました。今度サンフランシスコに行ってもここに泊まりたい。
