Nearby, City Hall’s golden dome sparkles amid the Civic Center’s concrete gray. The live arts thrive at the San Francisco War Memorial & Performing Arts Center, one of the nation’s largest. A five-tiered Peace Pagoda marks Japantown. Castro District, the city’s main gay neighborhood, is a short ride away, as is Haight-Ashbury, the counterculture bastion that is a gateway to Golden Gate Park.

"not what you expected"
We stay in San Francisco twice a year for work & pleasure. But this was one of the worst stays. The walls were so thin you could hear people walking, talking, and closing their doors. The windows were so bad you could feel a breeze all night long from them. The bath tub had chucks missing from it. It looks like this hotel has potential but they ran […] out of money. "Great, reasonable hotel in SF"
Great experience. The area starts to trail off a bit as you go away from Union Square into the Tenderloin but it's OK. The bed wasn't huge but linens and desk were nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great stay"
Here on business for 4 nights. An older hotel but you wouldn't really know from the rooms, clean, good furniture, free WiFi. I enjoyed it. The location was convenient. The neighborhood was safe, but not as nice as Union Square since this is close to the Tenderloin district.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice but not so nice"
This is what I consider a pretty objective rating/review of the Hotel Vertigo on Sutter. The food in the area is good and affordable, the exec king room is decent, parking in public lots is affordable. That said ... the service was horrible and the valet appeared very irresponsible handling vehicles. I was charged for a night my car was never in the […] valet. I was told no one was around to make the correction. I did not sign the bilil and will dispute $35 of it to the credit company. I wish I didn't have to go through that hassle. Also the neighborhood is loud and very close to the undesirable 'tenderloin district'. To sum it up. Affordable but not desirable. I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN! "What a gem!!"
This was my first trip to San Francisco and it was a quick stop for business, Hotel Vertigo was a beautiful gem to stay in. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful and super accommodating. They were a great mix of professionalism and laid back charm. I loved it!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The Vertigo Hotel is an incredible bargain. Great design, comfort, and service and the element of film history makes it even more attractive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Customer reviews are most accurate"
The hotel is advertised very well, but deceiving right away. No pictures do justice to what rooms actually look like. I was told there was two different styles of rooms. The upbeat room is what is shown on the site. The other "style" is just beds thrown into a room, no desk, a TV with bad reception, an unclean bathroom, and a sink. The free internet […] is slower than a dinosaur, and I would highly recommend staying at another hotel. This is not even worth the money you pay per night. Wake up calls are non-existent (even though they say they call). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Half true"
I will admit the hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. But, it goes downhill from there. As far as I can tell and from what I was told, the hotel is in the process of being renovated. That means the lobby looks great and new. If you get stuck in an old room, it leaves quite a bit to be desired. It will look NOTHING like the pictures. As I apparently […] booked the same time as everyone else in the world, the hotel was full. I, traveling alone, got a very old looking room with 2 single beds. I contemplated going down to complain or ask about switching rooms until I heard the entire conversation of the girls in the room next to mine. Which also means the walls seemed pretty thin (to be completely honest, they were pretty loud) They had apparently already complained that their rooms were nothing like what is shown in the pictures and website but there was nothing that could be done. One of them was so upset that they argued about changing hotels for at least 10 minutes. I wasn't THAT upset about it, but I was only in town for one night. My only real issue is that if I wanted to sleep in a small, old room with a single bed, I would have booked a couple hotels down and saved myself $50 bucks a night. "It is a good choice only if you get a remodeled room."
Location is good. There are tons of restaurants and a nice coffee shop on the corner. Somewhat far away from BART station, but I didn't mind, since walking is good for you. However, choose your way carefully, better ask for directions at the hotel lobby. The room was ugly. It was old. However, with Expedia discount, I was not paying a lot, so there […] is nothing really to complain. Towels were actually quite good, and it was the most enjoyable moment. Wall in this hotel are thin (this is true for every room), so any activity nearby will be heard by almost everyone around. It was quite annoying, since I was in town for business, and a good sleep was extremely valuable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"hotel vertigo SF"
Hotel Vertigo is a decently priced boutique hotel in downtown SF. The room was decent size and the bed was very comfortable. There were coffee shops and restaurants nearby. My only complaint with the hotel was the amount of time it took to get my car from the valet. 35 minutes wait almost made me miss my flight. Do yourself a favor and park yourself […] at a parking garage nearby. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel Vertigo, San Fransico, CA."
We loved this hotel, close to everything, four blocks from Union Square, eatery's everywhere of all types of food, close to cable cars, recommend the valet parking , no street parking, but you can walk everywhere, taxi to Golden Gate Park, though. I really liked the forties/early fifties feel and the lush beds!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Vertigo"
Hotel Vertigo is a nice, clean, moderately stylish boutique hotel about 6 blocks to the west of Union Square. The front desk personnel were extremely helpful, internet was free, the room was clean and moderately stylish. The price was god. The uphill walk from Moscone center (if you are attending a conference) is about as far as you would want to walk, […] but acceptable. There are quite a few cafes and restaurants within a few blocks and a syrprisingly complete market on the same block if you want snacks or drinks. It was a good stay for the price - I'd do it again. "Quite nice"
Hotel and room were beautiful. They appear to be mid-remodel but most of the floors are done. The staff was very accommodating - they found me a room to check in to at 10:30am which is well before their normal check in time. The hotel is a pretty short walk from the bart but the most direct route goes through a somewhat shady neighborhood. If you walk […] a couple of extra blocks it's not an issue. "A Work in Progress but Renovated Rooms worth it!"
First off, the hotel is still being renovated so I would suggest requesting a newer room as it is a world of difference in quality. I traveled with friends who ended up in an older room and there was nothing in comparison. There are no coffee makers in the rooms, but they do have a service in the lobby in the mornings and there are several great coffee […] shops in the same block. The bathrobes that come in the newer rooms are the best I've ever had at a hotel, and the bedding was dreamy. The staff was extremely accommodating with a few unusual requests of trying to coordinate delivery of instruments with local people. I used to live in the neighborhood and can say it's very convenient to everything. It's a short walk to Union Square, China Town and the Trolley Lines and there is a bus line on the corner. "Hotel Vertigo SF - Nice Place to Stay"
Very comfortable hotel with nice, clean rooms. The hotel is older (one elevator), but nicely decorated. The rooms are stylish and the bedding was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. I was attending a convention at Moscone Center, so I had to walk quite a way or take a cab. However, if you're a tourist and going to see many […] different parts of town, it is conveniently located close enough to Union Square to walk. The neighborhood is nice with a pizza parlor, coffee/gelato shop and two different breakfast restaurants just a few doors down. It is also quiet enough at night to allow us to sleep with the window open to get the night breeze, but not hear a lot of street noise like some hotels near the Powell/Market area. I would stay again and can easily recommend this hotel to any type of traveller. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hidden gem"
The hotel sure has style and is about 5 -10 minute walk from the cool tourist area. It had a fridge in the room that was ready to use as there is no kitchen in the hotel, nice gym with latest equipment, big TV, and good internet signal. I upgraded to penthouse which was quite inexpensive - less expensive than most regular rooms in near-by hotels, and […] stayed in what I considered to be a palace. What a room! What views of the city, big room, cool decor, comfortable bed, nobody else on the floor. This is the room to stay in when you are in San Francisco. This room was a steal, I did not want to go back home. I will always stay here when in San Fran. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Value for money"
I stayed at Hotel Vertigo whilst at a conference in downtown SF. The hotel location was convenient. The hotel has quite a cool feel to it. The rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. The bathrooms were particularly good for the price range of this hotel. All in all very good value for money.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Solides Hotel in zentraler Lage"
Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
