Price was great for this gem located downtown right in the middle of all the shopping you can handle. The Powell St. trolley car turnabout is right outside of the main entrance and stays packed full of tourist looking to ride or take pictures. Plenty of places to eat and bars within a 5 minute walk of the hotel and the hotel itself has a small deli […] with soups and sandwiches to go. Very courteous staff on hand and if you run into David working the front desk he is sure to take care of your every need. The only issue I had with the room was the mold around the bathroom window. Definitely will stay again when in San Francisco. Read more

Ahhhhmazzzzing location- could walk or very easily public transport to everywhere. Im a girl, but Felt perfectly safe walking around late at night as long as you watched going too deep inthe neighborhood to the left. Complimentary beer and wine happy hour M-Th! Awesome! Got fairly fuzzy while chatting with other visitors, super fun. Parking is expensive […] but the same you'd pay anywhere in the area, about 35 a day. Room was super tiny, but again, expected. Two drawbacks were awful water pressure in the shower (and man, coming back freezing after a day in that cold town, you just want a hot soothing shower!) and noise from outside. I guess that's the compromise you make for being right on the corner of 5th and Market, but yikes. If you are a light sleeper, take this into account. Our room was directly above the cable car stop, and we could hear clear as day arguing bums in the pre dawn hours and then trolley bells and incessant tourist chatter later in the morning. Sleeping past 8 wasn't happening. However would I stay here again? At 150 or under, no question, absolutely I would! More than that I might go somewhere quieter. Read more

Not a bad hotel.. Location wise it is perfect for Trains/Buses/Cable cars and shopping. My first room had a leaky pipe that made dripping noise.. kept me up for 4 hrs. Breakfast is included is over reach as the breakfast was OJ/Coffee and tiny sized muffins. I didn't even bother eating.

The Powell is in a terrific location in downtown San Francisco convenient to shopping, restaurants, and sightseeing. My only negative is that parking is inconvenient so because of the proximity of public transportation I wouldn't bring a car with me next time.

The location is amazing. We were blocks from all the great shopping and restaurants. The hotel is located at the base of the trolley so there were tons of people everywhere. We really enjoyed our stay at Powell Hotel. The location was excellent and very easy to find and the parking was very reasonable ($31/night for valet parking). I will definitely stay there again the next time I am in the city!

This hotel has bedbugs BIG time!!! My room had it and my friends' room had them too! Room was not really clean, you could see hair in the shower even before I used the shower. Right in the heart of Market street, shopping, Union Square, and China Town close by. Also the Powell St. trolley stop was in front of the hotel, as well as all of the other major modes of public transportation, […] within steps away from the front door. Plenty of things to see in the immediate area. Easy to get to and very centrally located if you want to venture out around San Francisco. Rather average staff. Not exactly doting or accommodating, but pleasant enough. Minimal amenities, and a pretty basic room. Comfortable enough, but nothing near luxury or cozy. The hotel seemed a bit old and could use an updated makeover. All about location here and not much else. Not the worst place I've ever been. The hotel itself was older but well worth the price. The staff was frienly and accomodating. It's location (the standout feature) was above major shopping and transit. The muni, BART, and trolley were all right outside the hotel doors. If you don't plan to spend all your time in your hotel room, this hotel is perfect.

Front desk had no bell staff on hand, and only one person working the desk and answering phones (so i had to wait for him to complete his phone conversations to check in). room was old, not filthy, but kind of dirty, small, ammenities were awful, when you turned the light off it would just flicker all night. had to unplug the tv to charge my laptop, […] etc... bathroom was nice and roomy, but no fan, so it turned into a steam room with no ventilation. oh, and dont look out the windows, they all faced eachother to the inside and it was like something from Judgement Night. This is a decent hotel in a safe area of the city. As this was my first time in San Francisco, I asked a friend which area I should be looking at hotels in, and he recommended Downtown/Union Square. However, this hotel is in the very center of tourist action in SF. It's one block north of a major BART/Municipal train station, it's at the very beginning […] of Powell where people line up in droves to ride the $5 tourist trolley from sunup to sundown. Powell St. is one of the major tourist traps in the city; if you're familiar with Manhattan, think Times Square without the naked cowboy. So, consider why you're visiting the city. If you're a tourist doing touristy things, the location and it's proximity to the train station might be perfect for you. But if you're like me, and you like to saunter downstairs in the morning (noon) to have a cigarette in peace, look at the map and find a location 2-6 blocks away from here in any direction, and you'll be staying in a safe location with much more alone time. The Powell Hotel was what I expected. The Lobby was very clean and bright. Personnel at the front desk were very helpful and polite. The room was a double-double. The mattresses were very comfortable. The room was clean and apportioned nicely. The temperatures were very warm during my visit which made the room a bit warm. There is no airconditioning, […] but a ceiling fan helped. Staff also said, if needed, they had portable fans they would bring to the room. However, one was not needed because of the ceiling fan. The only thing I could say negative, would be that the bathroom needed more remodeling or updating. It was sparse and needed new floor tile. Overall, my stay at the Powell Hotel was very comfortable. I like the accessibility to transportation. The hotel is right outside of the Powell Street station (BART, MUNI, and Cable Cars). The F Line on Market street takes you right to the curb at Fisherman's Wharf. Union Square is a short walk away and the mall is across the street. There are so many restaurants it is hard to chose!! Very convenient for a baseball game too. Take the T or N Line from the Powell Street station directly to A T&T Park. I would stay at this hotel every time if I could! Read more

We had no problems with the hotel at all - the service was pleasant, the room was small but very clean and quiet, and the location can't be beat! This hotel is wonderful for someone who isn't traveling with car. Easy to catch the cable car, street car, or metro because they are literally steps away from the hotel door. This time they put me and my friend in a side closet with two twin beds, right next to the maid's closet.
