The bulls and bears of industry tread the streets of the Financial District, home to the city’s tallest buildings, including the iconic Transmerica Pyramid. The towers give way to The Embarcadero, the broad, palm-lined avenue that begins at the San Francisco Giant’s AT&T Park and ends at Fisherman’s Wharf. The road passes by the Ferry Building, a landmark transformed into an artisanal food market.

THE NEGATIVES: The walls are paper thin and we had the room right across from the elevators...didn't sleep well to say the least. There was hair inside of the cotton ball holders, had one wash cloth in the bathroom, after the cleaning lady came she just left the towels thrown on the counter (not folded or hung up). THE POSITIVES: Great location for […] shopping, the Asian market, and not to far to walk to the Piers. The valet service was nice and the guys were professional. The beds are comfortable. "Nice but under construction"
The check-in area is confusing because the hotel is under construction. You have to take two elevators to go from your room to the street and vice-versa. Room was very clean though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A regular business hotel."
We had booked a superior room but we were given a small room; they never left complimentary water bottles in our room despite having reminded the on duty staff one night. The hotel was under renovatin and the temporary main entrance had just one lift for all!Genuine Expedia guest review
Main intolerance is currently under refurbishing so one has to take two lifts to get to the room. I had permanent issues with room keys - that resulted in getting back to the reception 3 times in two days. Note the internet connection is very poor so don't expect to videoconference from the hotel. It also went down for few hours on the first night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We were not informed that the hotel is under a lobby reconstruction when we booked through Hotels.com. It's a favorite hotel, have stayed here four or five times before. Near the Ferry Building and Embarcadero Center.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lobby renovations made this a bad choice"
Arrived by cab at hotel. Location was perfect. But I couldn't decide how to go in because the lobby was walled off. It seems the hotel was conducting a major renovation of the lobby and other common areas. I'm an attorney, and I was meeting a witness at the hotel to prepare him for his deposition the next day. We couldn't find a place to meet other […] than my room, which was awkward. A nice hotel should have a meeting place. The improvised bar was also not very nice or available. Worse, each morning I awoke to the sound of jackhammers. It was also hard to get in and out of the hotel, because we couldn't go through the lobby; we had to ride a freight elevator to the second floor and then switch to the main elevator. The staff wasn't very helpful or sympathetic when dealing with these problems. I think the hotel should have informed Expedia and other travel sites about the work; when I am paying luxury hotel prices, I expect a luxury hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"stay at Le Meridian"
It was ok, very hard to find the hotel entrance and where to pull the car in. The staff was very friendly but I didn't like having to use the valet service because then if i needed something additional from my car I had to call the valet. Also, very hard to find the front desk, hotel is in disarray from construction. I would never stay at this hotel […] again and would advise friends and family to not stay there. "Nice hotel, jackhammerimg awful"
Very nice room, thought perhaps since I booked through hotels.com I got the worst room that met the description. So called water view was peekaboo fr the fifth floor. They started remodeling the restaurant below and VERY loud jackhammerimg was incessant. Front desk kept putting me off despite numerous calls. No compensation was offered. Tried to work […] in my room but it was very hard to concentrate. Cleaning staff was very sweet. I'd recommend the Hyatt over this place. "Did not meet expectations"
As some one that was familiar with this property , several years ago, I was surprise to see how much has the service drop, checking in made me feel that I was interrupting the two front desk women, one in particular didn't even bother looking up , and did not stop doing what she was doing on the cell phone, room service was too expensive for the quality […] on the food, I think that the potatoes at the Ihop, are much better than the ones we were served, they might have been left over from two days before. "Great Hotel"
I give this an overall rating of 3 (but everything else a 5) only because the valet prices are absolutely ridiculous! I paid almost $100 for just one night of valet. The hotel was really nice and we got a "luxury suite" for the price of a regular room at a cheap hotel. Was very impressed with how great the suite was and to top it off, we were on the […] top floor and had an AMAZING view of the bay and the bay bridge. The overnight check in staff was deplorable, dishonest, and unhelpful. They claimed my reservation through Expedia was not sent correctly when it was. They were rude and unaccommodating. The hotel was nice but didn't offer many personal touches. For the price, it would have been nice to have a coffee pot in the room or space in the refrigerator. "Great location, good hotel"
The hotel is conveniently located and blocks from Union Square, Chinatown, financial district, Ferry Building/Market Street. "Not so great service"
Had a few problems at my stay. 1. I paid for the parking for my stay with my reservation. Then I found a bill under my door on the morning I was leaving saying they charged my credit card I left for incidentals for parking. (which is $52 a day). 2. I used the laundry service and was told when my laundry would be finished and planned my schedule on […] that time. They were not available to bring my laundry for about 40 minutes. Then they lost two of my items and had to go back to laundry to locate. Put me an hour behind schedule... 3. Went to have breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Ordered the buffett and was told there were no eggs out yet. Waiter said he would have the cook make me the scrambled eggs. When theycame they smelled like seafood and must have been mixed with something besides eggs and oil. Very dissastified and grossed out my eggs smelled like fish. "One disappointment after another."
We checked in and I immediately went to our room to run a bath for our child. I noticed black hair in the tub. A total turn off. Then I called the desk because we booked a room for 3 and there was only a bed for 2. The front desk staff told me we would have to get a rollaway bed for an additional $25. So I was transferred to a hotel manager who told […] me I would have to pay because I booked a room for 2. However I booked for 3 and I had email conformation of that. She then realized I was correct and then also said rollaways were free for children. But then we had to call to check on it three times and was finally delivered at 10 pm. And they knew we had a four year old. Our studio suite offered no coffe/ tea. We had to pay $2.50 for a tea bag. And no bottled water either. We ended up having to buy 4 bottles at $4.50 each from the front desk.So for a "nice" hotel that was. It busy the service was very off. Not helpful at all. And with all the choices in San Francisco I would not stay at this hotel again. We travel often and are very good at critiquing hotels. Maybe try Hotel Vitale down the street. That is a beautiful hotel with great service. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Romantic get-away"
We had an enjoyable 3 days at Le Meridien. Because of its location in the financial district, it was very quiet for the entire weekend. We went to the Saturday farmer's market 3 blocks away from Embarcadero, then went back for breakfast on Sunday. The hotel felt a little tired, with a small-ish bathroom and the thinnest towels I've yet encountered. […] Also, at some point, someone had dropped what looked like a crumpled cookie in front of our door. I explained to the front desk and it was taken care of while we were gone, but, I mean, you have to wonder... We asked for a convenient suggestion for a quick, neighborhood restaurant for Monday breakfast, and were given the same (unacceptable) restaurant suggestion by two different concierges at two different times. We had better luck just ambling around by ourselves. All in all, I might recommend this hotel to a friend, but with the above caveats. It was fine for a long, romantic weekend, but I may very well not return. I expected a higher level of "luxury" from a "business" hotel, but we didn't even get a turn-down service in the afternoon. Last year we stayed at the Ritz, and even though the price was half again as expensive, the luxury and genteel service were priceless. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Le Meridien in San Fran is beautiful but..."
I was not impressed with the service. Specifically the agent who checked us in lied and would not give us a room on a higher floor than she chose. When we went to the room and found it occupied by a maintenance engineer (using harsh cleaners so it smelled terrible.) We went back to the front desk to obtain a different room. A different desk agent then […] gave us a room that was 3 floors higher, and the couple the other agent checked in got a room one floor higher than our original assignment. All rooms were in the same area of the hotel so the same cost catagory. Bottom line is she lied and would not honor a simple request to have a room as high as possible to get away from traffic noise. That is unacceptable. Our luggage was then sent to the wrong room. The bellmen and valet's were very professional and kind, but the people behind the desk were very much not. Overall the hotel is beautiful with nice decor and clean, but I expect to be treated better when paying for this level of a stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not for the weekend."
During the week, this hotel might be great. The staff was great, but there were a few things that were annoying. The room was nice--but the walls were so thin that the "voices" next door were crystal clear and like being in the same room. That goes for the energetic couple on Saturday night and the loud business conference calls on Monday morning. Thank […] goodness there was a radio in the room. The room had quite a few light bulbs out, and the fan in the bathroom didn't work (during showers, ALL of the windows and mirrors in the main room fogged up completely. Contrary to what we read, the restaurant DOES NOT SERVE DINNER. They are open for breakfast (which was decent, but the $6 cup of coffee was on par with Denny's) and Sunday brunch. As for the area, it's in the financial district, walking distance to the Ferry Building and Chinatown (and a few other places if you wear the right shoes). However, on the weekends, the choices of restaurants (especially since the hotel didn't provide one) is severely limited and poor. Hardly any places are open, even during the day on weekends, and even fewer places were open on a Sunday evening. Don't plan on eating anywhere around the hotel. Overall, it seems like it's a complete roll of the dice to see if you are going to have neighbors who make your stay rather embarrassing and annoying, or if they'll be quiet enough for you to enjoy the beautiful views. There were 2 adults and a 17 year old staying at the hotel. I had requested a room with 2 beds and was told because of the many weddings taking place at the hotel, the only room available had 1 bed and that "at no charge" they would include a rollaway bed. I was also told that because it was reserved through a third party, the type of room was not guaranteed. […] The bathroom door did not close, it slides, and the door was off the track. We had to put the door on the track (engineer was very slow to respond) and with the door on the track, the spaces at the side of the door did not provide privacy. The toilet also made loud noises when flushed. There was no fan in the bathroom to remove the steam while taking a shower. The next day, instead of being upgraded to a "much nicer room" as we had been promised, we were moved to the type of room we had reserved - a 2 bed room. No weekday newspaper was provided, and when I asked the housekeeper who was cleaning the room next door for additional towels, I was told to "call housekeeping." On the plus side, the room(s) were clean and the location was perfect with easy access to transportation and the price was inexpensive for the type of hotel. However, based on the lack of privacy provided by the bathroom sliding door, unless I was the only guest in the room, I would not stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Overpriced!"
"Expensive hotel with no charm"
At first, Le Meridien seemed ok; nice staff at check-in, and the sea view from our room was nice. But then we saw that the room was not especially clean, with hair in the shower, trash behind the counter, and thin towels with old spots on. Housekeeping should really spend more time when cleaning. The wi-fi is expensive; about 15$ for 24 h. We should […] really expect free wi-fi in a business hotel like this. Also; breakfast is not complimentary. We didn't eat in the restaurant; we had breakfast at Starbucks across the street. The minibar was locked with a key, the safe was too small to fit our camera, and the walls are so thin that we could actually listen to the conversation in the room next to ours...
