Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman's Wharf.

"Historic flair without being old-fashioned."
The hotel is a landmark, directly across from the Fairmont and the cathedral on top of Knob Hill. It has historic flair but definitely attracts quite some hip people. Rooms were not big but nice, would recommend for stay for sure. It's on a very steep hill, actually not a bad workout to walk down and back up to Union Square...Genuine Hotels.com guest review

we had a lovely girls night out and in. Comfy beds (a little too warm till we figured out the AC). Nice to not have to pay a cover for the top of the mark. Great Martini's.Room service was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Oops!"
Hotel was in adequate shape, but the room we were given was filthy and had not been made up. Upon calling, we were immediately sent to another room, which was ready. The Maintenance Manager came to apologize, and later a letter from the Hotel Manager arrived with a bottle of wine - nice touch! The Mark Hopkins is obviously a former grand hotel, now […] slunk to mediocre at best. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Unbelievable! History, views& 21st Century service"
Would come back without hestitation. Wonderful restaurant and bar which has a 360 degree view of San Francisco. Close to Cable Cars, Union Square, Taxis. Service 5 Star plus; nothing was a bother. Privacy and Security in the rooms amazing as well,Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely hotel on top of a hill"
The hotel was central to everything my friend and I wanted to see, clean, and comfortable, but climbing up that hill at the end of each day was exhausting! I'd highly recommend taking a cable car or taxi to get there, unless you've got power legs. Otherwise everything was excellent.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a nice hotel in a safe neighborhood. You'll need to walk a bit to get to the bigger tourist spots, but you will not go wrong having this as your base hotel. Room didn't have much of a view, but who cares, you're not meant to hang in your room when you're in the great city of San Francisco.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Must stay"
We stayed here with some frriends and our stay was Great! Anything you want they will get. Internet is expensive and so is parking but we didnt drive cable cars were close and bus system worked great. Would recommend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Classic SF Hotel"
Great location, traditional grand hotel, excellent service. Very comfortable room, lovely views of the city, premium touches. Probably about time for some paint here and there, she is showing a bit of wear, but would still recommend. Drinks at the Top of the Mark a must for any visitor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Mark Hopkins Classic"
I love the Mark Hopkins. Have been going there for years for parties, meals, and music and dancing on top of San Francisco. On New Years Eve I decided to actually stay at the hotel for the first time. Honesty I was a bit disappointed. The rooms were quite small and very plain with few modern upgrades. Just your basic small hotel room with tub shower. […] Not much different from many other. Definitely not a 5 star hotel room. Next time I would save my money (or go somewhere where you get something for it) and just go to the hotel for the restaurant at the Top of the Mark, and forgo the high expense of the room. "Mark Hopkins Is a Classic"
This Hotel is as well run as when I first visited 45 years ago. It is not an "over the top" luxury hotel, but rather a throw back to the traditional, elegant hotels of previous generations. As you may guess, I am turned off by "over the top", conspicuous displays of unnecessary luxury. The baths are small, but the general ambience of the hotel is pure […] tradftional elegance. I love it, and I would recommned it as an awesome introduction to San Francisco for a family. It was for me 45 years ago with my father and remains special today to me. The Cable Car is right outside the door! If you like simpe elegance in a quiet ambience in the best location in San Francisco, this is for you! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Mark Hopkins Hotel, SFO, great proximity to sights"
Great Location! We walked to Chinatown and ate at a concierge recommended restaurant - which we loved. The next day we walked 4 blocks to Union Sq. and took the Cable Car to the Wharf/ Ghiradelli Sq. area and back. We had great directions and all the staff was very helpful and courteous. You can't beat the city view from the Top of The Mark Restaurant. […] Good food, too. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nob Hill Traffic"
The Mark apparently hasn't thought of installing double-paned windows, and the noise, especially on the California St. side, can be really bad. This means all hours - until the cable cars are done running and before they start again, cops pulling speeders over (and announcing things on loudspeakers), and traffic. The staff were all very friendly and […] helpful, and the free apples were a bonus. The location was great for getting almost anywhere, by cable car or on foot, and there was, at times, a free ride in a Mercedes town car. We used it twice (first-come-first-served) to go to dinner. Very classy. Note: no store in the Mark, but the one at the Fairmont, across the street, is open until 11 PM. Sears Restaurant, down the hill on Powell, has really good breakfasts and a big menu. Only complaint is no flat screen televisions in rooms. Other than that an amazing experience, great room service, friendly staff and prompt valet.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historic SF Hotel - A Must Stay"
What a great hotel! Excellent location, old SF charm and great service. We were close to everything we wanted to do. Cabs are plentiful and the Mark is right on both the California, Powell and Mason cable car routes. Great room, fantastic view and huge bathroom. Plus, no trip to SF is complete without a stop at the Top of the Mark. Only wish our stay […] would have included Sunday brunch, but we arrived Sunday evening. Completely doable walk to AT&T park. Consider the Mark when visiting SF! You won't be disappointed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Intercontinental Mark Hopkins"
Visit was with a friend to view the Christmas lights and decorations. Our stay was wonderful- beautiful hotel and Christmas decorations were an added bonus. Yes, the walk up and down the hill is steep but very doable plus the cable car is very convenient if one does not want to walk. Both my friend and I said we would definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Intercontinental Mark Hopkins - Centrally located"
Atop Nob Hill in San Francisco the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins couldn't be in a better spot for gaining access to the majority of the city's top attractions. With comfortable, clean rooms, and friendly staff the hotel makes you feel like you're being transported back to the old Railroad barons hey day, when mansions lined the area. If you venture […] to the "Top of the Mark" on the 19th floor, you get one of the best views imaginable of the city below, San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges. I have stayed many times in the city, but this time enjoyed myself the most because of the experience I had at the Mark Hopkins. I will recommend this hotel to all my friends. "Mark Hopkins - Great Hotel. Great Location"
Great location to tram lines so you don't have to walk up the killer hills! Very close to union square and 5 min tram ride to fisherman's wharf. Great proximity to everything a tourist needs! Would recommend to anyone and stay there again. Bathroom was huge, only downside was room quite small and hotel could do with a revamp.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Intercontinental Mark Hopkins in San Francisco"
The hotel is old and the should be renovated. The other intercontinental hotels I visisted are not compareable to that one. and I ravel areound 250-300 days per year (consultant - live every week in an other hotel) - therefore I would not recommend this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Genuine Hotels.com guest review
