"Hot water would have been nice"
Our room was clean and people were generally pleasant. That's the good part. We had no hot water so could not shower in the morning. When we told the desk clerk, her response was "oh, thank you for telling me. Some rooms have it and some don't so this helps us figure it out." No offer to either take something off our bill, let us use a working shower […] in another room, or do anything else to make up for not being able to shower. Not even a hint of an apology. She acted like there was absolutely nothing wrong with having no hot water. That is a first in all my travels. Secondly, I have experienced dozens upon dozens of "free breakfasts" at chain hotels. They are are generally not very good, and our expecations were low. But usually there is something you can eat. This was the worst excuse for a breakfast I've come across. "good location, hotel/rooms need improvement"
The location is great - right near the Cliff Walk and beach, and a short drive to downtown and the mansions. The condition of the hotel leaves a bit to be desired. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. The bench in our hotel room was stained. Both the bed skirts were ripped. The AC in the room wasn't very effective in cooling the room. "not what it used to be"

"No pool no wifi no ac"
this place stunk. literally. We could have got beyond the smell, but the pool was closed due to roof cave in. Didnt look like they were in any hurry to fix. Wifi on 3rd floor didnt work. Cavalier answer from desk clerk was that it "doesn't work up there". Given there are only three floors in the hotel, I thought it was odd they should advertise free […] wifi. AC in our room didnt work, and heard several other guests complaining about theirs being noisy, etc. The rate for an "off night" Sunday....felt like being robbed. "My stay in Newport for Annual Engineering outing..... fun day....gross hotel!"
I am one to never complain about anything, but I really want to express how dissatisfied I was with this hotel. First thing was the room was dirty, white stains by the side of the bed on the carpet (gross I know) my friend took photos (which are now on facebook)! Bathroom had built up soap scum in the shower and the shower curtain was moldy and dirty. The […] other issue was upon check in. It was stated that there was only available parking for one vehicle and we had two, so I contacted the hotel the week before and asked if there was addtional available parking or a lot in the area for a fee, she stated that we could pay an addtional fee of $10 for an extra vehicle (I thought, awesome!) So we checked in on our arrival date and I paid the woman at the counter the extra $10 in cash, she handed me the two parking passes with the date of stay on them to be put in the window or our vehicles.....all good right? NO next morning I go to check out and the new clerk says you have a charge of $12 for an extra vehicle, I told her I paid the women the $10 in cash upon check in....she tells me no you didn't where is your receipt? I did not receive one was my response (very dumb for not requesting one but I was in a hurry) so in a nutshell I paid twice for the parking this time with an addtional $2 charge which she said was for taxes.....but we know the 7% tax on $10 is .70 cents...oh well......don't stay there for the dirt alone but if you do make sure you get a receipt! "confort Inn: bon emplacement"
