I loved everything about the hotel except the maids were knocking on our door to clean at 8:00am exactly!! I have 4 children and half my visit was to rest. "needs a bit of renovation"
The hotel is on the decline in the public areas. Lobby outdated and small, exercise room needs redoing, carpeting old and dirty. The room we were in was actually quite large and comfortable with two baths. The sinks were older, low vanities but the room was spotless and linens updated, so high marks there. My fiance and I went up for a night for our anniversary and the hotel was nice, the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. I did not like that the parking was in the back, unless you get valet, so leaving the hotel you have to drag your luggage upstairs to get to the back parking. Was disappointed that upon checkin we were not made aware of the discount card we could sign up for to receive additional 20% off on our purcbases and food at the hotel. The first night at Harrah's was horrible - really loud party above us till around 6am, and the sink in one of the two bathrooms kept gurggling all night - loud enough to wake both of us up several times. Hotel is old and smells like cigarettes but we complained about our smoking room and got a free upgrade to a suite! Really spacious and clean! The major plus is the two bathrooms! I guess I can’t go home again. Although I didn’t live in Lake Tahoe, I still do have very fond memories of staying at Harrah's as a very young child. With that said, I felt it was only appropriate to finally stay here as an adult. I suppose I expected the grandeur of my childhood memories to be the same; unfortunately, they just weren't. The hotel is […] clean, well-maintained, and boasts the unique "2 bathroom rooms" that everyone is fascinated with (I called my mom, she said I was just as fascinated at age 4 as I was the day we stayed there!). Still, it lacks that feel that I was looking for. I am not necessarily blaming this solely on the hotel itself as I know I had pre-conceived notions that were likely hard to meet; however, we were hoping for something a little more grand and elegant than what we found. It is a hotel. It is clean, well-maintained, and the staff is pleasant and obliging. I just don't see that old sparkle that was once there and I think that's what I missed. My only concern would be the lack of available parking in the parking structure; it is “valet only.” Although free for hotel guests, I prefer to have access to my car at all times. For others, this may not be a problem, but every other hotel in the area allows for parking in the garage – except Harrah’s. It seems odd to me. The only part of Harrah's that did not disappoint was the buffet. I was absolutely mesmerized by the view when I was little (not to mention the food), and where that is concerned I was NOT disappointed. I would recommend this hotel to people who have not stayed there before because it is one of the nicest in Tahoe; however, I'm not sure we will be back. It was a Monday night, so the wait at the check-in desk was very short. We decided to get a smoking room, and it was easy to find. Walking in was a sight because there were two bathrooms to the left, a good-sized closet to store our things, and the king size bed was accentuated with four decorative lights on the wall. "Nice hotel, casino"
My wife and I enjoyed our recent stay at Harrahs. It is perfectly situated at the edge of South Lake Tahoe, within walking distance to the Heavenly Gondola, and easily accessible from Reno by car. The hotel has a nice casino with a variety of slots and tables with reasonable bid limits and pay odds, and it is connected by tunnel to the Harvey's casino […] across the street, which has a poker room. We enjoyed our time in the casino, even though we ended up down a bit, but be warned -- the casino is full smoking, so you will definitely get a dose of secondhand smoke that you may not be used to. It wasn't overwhelming, but if it bothers you, it's best to gamble in the mornings. Other random things: The cafe was fair, and the room service was decent (if overpriced, like all room service). The fitness center was decently stocked with dumbbells, a couple ellipticals, cycler, treadmill, and a couple TVs. Checkout was quick and easy through your TV. Valet was complimentary and very handy. Loved this hotel! It was a walk away from Heavenly so we were able to easily take our snowboards to the gondola and not have to worry about parking.
