We loved the hotel, which located at the quieter end of the Riverwalk. We enjoyed parking at the hotel (first time San Antonio visitors are offered half off parking, which takes it to $9/day), and then took the local trolley system around where we needed to go on $4/day ride passes. The hotel was clean and we enjoyed getting the free breakfast buffet, […] however, we heard everything from upstairs and our neighbors. Walls are SUPER THIN and that is our only complaint. Overall great stay. Beautiful lobby and pool area. Rooms outdated but clean and comfortable. No hot water 2 days out of 3 but we managed and staff was awsum. Will stay there again. Booking was easy and trouble free. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Hotel has some maintenance issues, last day of stay we had no hot water. Managment said they had a main water line break which made floors 3 and above with no hot water. They did let us use a room someone checked out of the next morning so we could take a hot shower. The walk to the main part of the riverwalk was approx 10-15 minutes which was allright […] with us, would not want to walk this end of the riverwalk after dark. Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Layout of hotel was a little difficult to navigate and it is somewhat removed from the more popular section of the Riverwalk, but a great deal for a clean, safe hotel.

Fairly clean, but there were papers and pizza crust behind nightstand. May not have noticed, but phone didn't work, so we checked cord behind nightstand. Also, no phone book, hotel info or TV info in the room. TV was new and hadn't been programmed yet, so maint man came and fixed phone and TV. Shade on one lamp was broken, but not really a big problem. […] Desk forgot our wakeup call on last day and would not have made it to the airport except for our cell phone alarm. The management was very helpful in getting us around San Antonio. We were disappointed that our room was not facing the riverwalk. However, the hotel only had rooms that faced the riverwalk with king or queen beds and we needed 2 beds. The breakfast was excellent. Overall, our stay was satisfactory.

Great Customer Service. Food was great, and plentiful. My children, enjoyed the pool, every night. Staff was very friendly, from the parking lot, maids, front desk and food servers. I woud definitely come back and recommend them.

This hotel was great, good hot breakfast buffet included in the price and only a 15min walk from downtown. The only problem woh this hotel was the rooms weren't made up until 6pm at night, which got in the way of getting ready for dinner plans.

This is an older, renovated hotel on a quiet section of the riverwalk, but within reach of the main plaza and Alamo by river taxi and walking. The hot breakfast included with our rate was very good, and the dining area well-kept and bright. The pool area and grounds were well maintained, and the employees at check-in were friendly and helpful. We are independent types and don't expect a lot of frills, using 3 and 4 star hotels as stop-offs on our sight seeing tours. I didn't really have any problems with this hotel except that the part of town it is in is a bit sketchy, especially because we were walking to and from the convention center it was worrying. I loved the breakfast in the morning and the staff was extremely gracious, will definitely book here again.

This is an old hotel, and it shows in some places -- like in the halls. However, the staff are excellent and were very friendly, courteous and helpful! The rooms themselves are comfortable and clean though old. I would definitely stay here again!

It has a cool cubano feel since that type of music is playing around the whole hotel. It's a great location downtown. Having the parking @ the hotel is convenient because you can take the trolly, river boat taxi, or even walk to the Alamo & mall 3 or 4 blocks away w/o having to constantly pay & search for parking in the downtown area. Rooms are clean,beds are the most comfortable I've experienced in a hotel,staff was very pleasant.The bathrooms left much to be desired,the sinks are pedestal style with no where to put grooming products,lighting was recessed so you could not see to apply makeup,there were not any towel racks to hang even you hand towel.

The outside of this hotel looks pretty dated but the interior was very nice and well maintained. We described it as an early 50's Vegas hotel. The room was pretty small but very comfortable and cool. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was pretty small was clean and maintained. The TV's should be replaced with flat screens but that was a very low […] priority. The breakfast was wonderful- everything one could ask for. I loved the Tiki Bar and having a glass of wine outside on the deck by the quiet riverwalk. It was very peaceful! The pool and surrounding area was very large and pretty. A hot tub would have been an added plus. It takes a while to walk to the restaurants from here but the walk along the river is pleasant and one can catch a water taxi to get there quicker! The hotel was very tastefully remodeled. The staff was very friendly and quite helpful. The room was nice and clean, though the bathroom was a little on the small side. The complimentary breakfast was very good and waitstaff was very attentive. Thumbs up!!

Located on the north end of the Riverwalk the El Tropicana is well maintained and somewhat updated hotel. It's located in downtown and is close to everything, especially when adding in access via the Riverwalk to all other top locations. It's lower proced then some of the center of the city hotels and has all of the same amenities. It has a lively weekend […] scene and is close to the soon to be completed performing arts theatre. The rooms were quiet enough even though we could here some other guests at times but it wasn't bad. The in-hotel restaurant and cafe are clean, and the bar and patio off the river are very nice. Room service was helpful. the restrooms were a little small and could have been presented better and recieved more attention and cleaning but they weren't bad. All amenities we required were available and easy to use. AC is solid and quiet. Stay of the double decker bus and use the river taxis. The hotel has it's own parking lot but the cost is not icluded and was $18 per night. You really don't need a car if you're staying in San Antonio. Read more

There system was down while we there so our room key didn't work half of the time but the overall the stay was good. The rooms were super clean the staff seem pretty nice the gym was awesome but the river walk wasn't walking distance. So that was the only down fall.

El Tropicano is on the riverwalk, but a long walk to the main attractions, restaurants, bars, and other nightlife. If you choose to walk, as we did, there is nothing but the river, rough sidewalks and bridges overhead for at least a quarter-mile. We didn't mind the hotel being old, it is well maintained. We paid extra for a "pool side room" and ended up tucked back in a dark corner, on the same level, but not the access we were hoping. The sliding glass doors that lead to the pool only locked from the inside, so you couldn't get to the pool through those doors, but had to walk through the hallways- for us it defeated the purpose. The two double beds […] also seemed short, so my 6ft husband was not comfortable. However, we requested a room change the next morning and were give an 7th floor room that was much better- lighter, king bed, and nice balcony overlooking pool. The staff was very pleasant and accomodating, included breakfast buffet was good, and the hotel had lots of outside seating. We intentionally selected a non-chain hotel, and would defintely go back to El Tropicano. We took full advantage of the Riverwalk, heading in both directions daily- up to the Pearl for free concert and to downtown to restaurants, bars, historical sights, shopping, etc. Read more
