Great location being right on the riverwalk. Breakfast was great and room was real clean. We got a great night sleep both days, i guess because the bed was real comfortable. "Not What Hotels.com Said It Would Be"
The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is right on the Riverwalk and along a nice section of it. Our room was decent, but it's not the "deluxe" room that hotels.com claims. Rather, it's the hotel's standard room. The hotel does not offer its suites via hotels.com, so ignore those photos. If you want a suite with any type of view or a balcony, […] you can't get it via hotels.com. Additionally, while the room was decent, the towels are very thin, the toiletries non-existent and the bed sank in the middle. The morning breakfast is decent, but it's mostly frozen food and it's the same day in and day out. They do; however, have great coffee and the staff is very friendly. Among downtown hotels, this is a good one for families looking for a decent place to stay, but it's not a three-star hotel. It's utilitarian and clean, but not luxurious in any way. Location couldn't be better. It's a short walk to the Alamo and tour bus pickups can be arranged for right out front. The Riverwalk is immediately alongside the hotel. The hotel is in a fairly convenient location. Most attractions are within walking distance. There are a few drawbacks though. The vehicle entrance is hidden in an alley next to a brightly lit competitor hotel. Also, there is a fee to park that is not disclosed anywhere on the site. You will pay 14 dollars plus tax per night for a really tight parking […] spot. This is pretty much on par with most parking garages, just keep this in mind when factoring in all costs. "OVER RATED!!"
We chose this hotel based on the great ratings but it is highly overrated. First of all, parking is a nightmare. Our vehicle was scratched and hit more than once because the spaces are NOT adequate sized. The hotel itself is much more run down (dirty rugs in the lobby), dirty and slow inadequate elevators for the size of the hotel. Would rather have more snack like appetizers (small slices of pizza, spicy chunks of chicken or beef) than less quality food many of the crowd were making dinner out of. "A Bit Dreary, But the Perks are Nice"
From the 4.6 rating, we expected this place to be a lot nicer than it was. While it was perfectly clean, and the "freebies" were wonderful, especially for kids, the place had a bit of a downtrodden ambiance. The beds were rather soft and mushy, and the bedspreads were itchy polyester, so we were rather cold at night. The rooms have nice, high ceilings […] and allow plenty of light, which was great, and the location can't be beat (though watch out for confusion between The Drury and The Drury Plaza Hotel, which is just a few blocks away). I had stayed at the Marriott Riverview a couple days before and really liked it. No free internet, no free breakfast and no free drinks.
