this was the worst room, due to the outside noise from bus traffic, that i have ever stayed in and i traveled for the last 40 years that i worked. "Far too noisy"
I read that this hotel was noisy, so I asked the staff to please put me in a quiet room. They put me in a room with a massive air conditioning unit just outside my window. "Bathroom Nightmare"
The staff was very friendly and helpful. That is about all that was great about the hotel. If this hotel would update the carpets and most importantly, the bathrooms, plus clean their hotel, then it would rate a lot higher and I would bring my whole family with me to stay there. When we went up to check our rooms after checking in, we saw hair on the floor of the bathrooms, and mildew throughout the tubs. The sinks were not wiped clean as well. We did tell front desk and they were attentive in getting it cleaned up for us by calling it in, however, when we returned from dinner, it was still dirty. The bathroom wallpaper was old and dirty looking. The bottom of the beds were dirty too. The computer room down in the lobby was also dirty with dust. "Hotel Gunter by the Riverwalk in San Antonio"
We chose Gunter Hotel because it was our 25th Wedding Anniversary and we wanted something special. This was not the 1st time staying there. We asked for a room facing the street and we got a room over looking the a/c units. The coffee maker had to be replaced because ours was broken. We only had two towels in the room, we called for some more, but the […] next day when our room got cleaned they took the extras away. The shower head was on a hose so everytime we turned the shower on the floor would get wet, (the preasure of the water turned the hose towards the floor). The nice things were that they gave us a free breakfast for our anniv, and a free breakfast for the above items that we suffered through. Room 530 should be closed up and abandoned forever. In a four star hotel I am not accustomed to having my one window spray-painted to obscure the ventilation system. We had nothing but problems with this hotel. We had ants in our room, and it took several hours to rectify the situation. The bed linens were noisy and uncomfortable. "Overrated, Cramped and Uncomfortable"
PARKING - First be aware that this hotel doesn't offer free parking to its guests. There is a daily charge for valet parking that includes in & out privileges. I can understand that because of the hotel's proximity to the Riverwalk, they are trying to curb non-guests from filling their lot. However it doesn't mean that they can't offer it at no charge […] to paying guests. (NOTE: It appears that most if not all Riverwalk hotels charge for parking.) We wound up parking ACROSS the street for a fraction of the cost, however it was a city-run lot with NO in & out privileges and only accepted cash. CHECK IN - Once we figured out the parking situation, we were checked in with no delay whatsoever. The staff was friendly and had our room available on time. ROOM - The room was small and cramped. The carpet and walls were dirty and it appeared as though housekeeping hadn't tended to it in several weeks. The room has an HDTV, however it doesn't have HD programming, and the brightness level was set VERY dark. The bed was completely uncomfortable, it was very springy and made it hard to not disturb my partner in her sleep every time I moved. The bedding and pillows appear to be made of 100% polyester which almost feels like sleeping on plastic bags, which makes for a moist/sweaty rest in a humid climate like San Antonio. The Air Conditioning worked well, but was very loud when switching on and woke us EVERY time. BATHROOM - Probably the worst part of the stay... The bathroom is incredibly small, not practical and terribly inconvenient. Our toilet, which was an industrial toilet with a pipe instead of a tank, had a broken seat and was leaking water all over the floor. The sink has NO Vanity space which means you cannot lay out your toiletries AT ALL. The shower is mounted low on the wall and would only be ideal for someone shorter than 5'5". "TV Remote does not work"
I had a problem with my TV remote and thought it was just the batteries, so I called the front desk. Turns out the remotes in all the rooms are broken and have been that way for months. The maintenance service man came to room and explained that there was nothing he could do about it. Sometimes the remote works and sometimes it doesn't. Not a big deal […] if you don't watch TV but all I wanted to do was turn the news on in the morning while I got ready and maybe watch a little TV before I went to bed at night. We stayed here on a busy Memorial Day weekend. This is an older hotel with a lovely lobby, guest rooms are small, beds were very comfortable, our carpet needed to be cleaned, windows were dirty (since we looked into another building this wasn't a big issue). The front desk staff was indifferent at best. This is not a 4 star hotel, more like a 2.5 star hotel. The sheets on the bed were old and piling, time for the trash. One day we ended up with no towels whatsoever, it took 2 calls and 3 hours to get some. Apparently the hotel was running low that weekend and we were not the only ones without towels. Didn't get any soap, shampoo, or bottle water replaced. […] Many of the other guests made it feel like a $19 motel. The pool is tiny, all of the lounge chairs were broke. "No es un hotel para mujeres"
El hotel ha sido renovado pero no esta como esperaba. El bano es muy incomodo especialmente para una mujer ya que tiene muy poco espacio para colocar nuestros accesorios. El parqueo esta en la Travis con St Marys y no lo explican cuando llame pidiendo ayuda con el parqueo la recepcionistra fue poco amable. Practicamente tienes que pagar el Valet Parking […] que es carisimo ($22.00 el dia!!) ya que el parqueo mas cercano esta a una cuadra del hotel.
