Hotel was located right off the expressway, not near the Riverwalk or other downtown attractions. Too far to walk. But it lacked there it made up for with a very friendly staff always willing to help and a clean, comfortable room.

The main issue we had was with card access to our room and into the hotel itself. The card would eventually work but it is irritating to try six or seven times before the mechanism works. The location and hotel itself was great - once you got in.

Hotel staff were excellent and were the best thing about the stay. Room was like an 80's apartment converted by a jack of all trades. Hotel is not exactly on the Riverwalk but is a short drive away. Pool was small but functional. Breakfast was limited to waffles, breads, boiled eggs, cereal but no breakfast meats.

POSITIVE aspects of this hotel: 1) friendly, helpful staff 2) the room was huge, comfortable, and clean 3) free wifi 4) free breakfast that provides variety and taste NEGATIVE aspects of this hotel: the location is horrible. There is a dog kennel across the street, the interstate is just a few feet away from the hotel, there are power lines and a wifi […] tower right in the parking lot, the pool is tiny and too full of chlorine, the breakfast area is so small that it looks like a fish feeding frenzy as guests try to get their food. I had stayed here previously, and that was for one night. During that stay, I overlooked a few things, or was not exposed to them. The breakfast area needs many more tables, or needs to be discontinued completely. Each of the three mornings we were there, we had to take our meager breakfast back to the room and eat off the coffee table. We stayed here on a vacation thinking it was within walking distance to the river walk but it is much too far to walk. The location other than that had good access to the hiways. The hotel was a little noisy especially in the AM as there is a dog boarding business across the street and dog barking was disturbing.

Poor neighborhood. Refrigerator fan rattled every time the compressor came on. Bathroom vent fan very loud. I would have to go into the bathroom, close the door, then turn on light/fan switch to keep from waking my spouse up. Sheets/mattress cover didn't fit well. Kept coming off at the corner.

I am usually a huge fan of best western and while the staff was nice the cleanness of the room was not good. Especially for a king suite. Their was hardly any toiletries especially for all of my family. The amount of blankets provided could've been better and their was dust all over the room. I really wouldn't call that 4 star.

The first room we were assigned had ants in the bathroom and a pool of frozen water (i think) at the base of the refrigerator. The staff was very apologetic and quick to switch us to another room. This room didn't have ants but still had the pool of frozen whatever at the bottom of the fridge. The room I was in had two king beds which is fantastic. […] The fridges in the rooms are full size as well. Every electrical outlet in the room had a problem of some kind and the lights between the beds were broken. The biggest complaint I have though is that this hotel does not offer any type of pay per view. So if you want to watch a movie, bring a laptop or other device and bring your own movies. Read more

Out dated decor of our room. The bedroom had a king bed with almost no room to walk around the bed. TV was old tube type with poor picture with many of the channels. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Be aware that location was over a mile from most of the popular sites. Parking downtown is limited and can be expensive. It was an average hotel some paint chipping . Bed was comfortable. Next to freeway but not noisy at all .very clean, sheets were fresh and smelled like they bleached them . The room was spacious and attractive. All of the plumbing and appliances worked. The front desk was congenial and helpful with general information and directions. The area of the hotel was a little unsettling, not in the best part of town, made the children and me quite nervous, the hotel itself was just fine, although I would have preferred an outside pool, the inside one was very hot and stuffy, no airconditioning on, so not very comfortable in 100 degree heat.

Arrival was good, greeted by I think the manager at front desk. He was extremely nice and helpful. Room clean but small. Balcony small;no view;rusty railing. The tvs TURN OFF automatically after 1 hour if you don't fool with the controls. The sleep wasn't on. Front desk confirmed all the tvs were like that and couldn't be changed. I asked if I watched […] a movie, it would just turn off in the middle? She said for me to just remember to fool with the volume and it wouldn't turn off. Really? I'm paying for a suite and the tv shuts off? And what about people who sleep with the tv on? REGULAR size fridge! Pool is small, but good railings for both the jacuzzi and pool. I'm large with bad knees, and I was able to get in and out of both pretty easily. There are about six steps down to the pool however. Free breakfast with waffles & pretty good coffee. First day the maid did the room great;the rest of the time it must've been done by someone else cuz there were many things left undone,blankets left askew,sleeper left out or pushed in without cushions, no coffee replacement. Once I found a maids' cell phone charging in my room. The neighborhood is sketchy & scary looking at night, but it's not THAT bad. It's kind of far to walk downtown;I wouldn't walk around there at night. There is a correctional institution nearby that I discovered while searching for a store, which there is none nearby. Shell and Exxon nearby that have good prices. Pool was closed for 2 days for repainting. Read more

We had to wait an hour for our room to be ready even though check in was at 3 and we got there at 4. We wanted to go swim at the pool while our room was getting cleaned, but we could not even do that because the pool was also being cleaned. After a long day we were exhausted so we were pretty upset, and the lady at the front desk said that there was […] nothing she could so for us. There wasn't even a manager on duty, so we along with another family that was checking in had to just wait, while the lady tried to contact the cleaning lady who was not answering her walkie-T. The hotel was ok but they need to improve their service. We were only issued one wash cloth and when asked for additional the housekeeping service did not have any available. Overall the service was ok once we were able to find out how to get to S. Larado. It was reasonable for the rate.

The stay was good. We stayed 5 nights and spent most of our time at Sea World and the Market Square/ Riverwalk area. We had no problems with the hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and very nice any time we had a question or concern. Free parking which is a plus in my book since you have to pay for parking pretty much anywhere you go. Our bed was not the best either but we had family in two other rooms and their beds were much better. Rooms spacious and clean. We had an 8 month old and she stayed very comfortably the five nights we were there. We were able to print off our tickets to Sea World at no cost which was convenient. Parking in the back can get cramped if the hotel is booked but we never worried about strangers being around vehicle. Felt very safe. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed our stay in San Antonio very much. This hotel was very good for the price and being that we stayed so long we tried to save where we could. Considering the price for the stay, I was satisfied with my experience. The location is safe but is in a semi-industrial area and there are no really good restaurants adjacent to the hotel. My husband and I love to travel and dine out, and when we travel, we generally get an economy hotel so we can spend more money on food an attractions. We found the Best Western in San Antonio to be a good fit for us. Rooms and lobby and clean and comfortable. Nothing is trendy, or cutting-edge, or luxurious, but we didn't need it to be. It's about a mile and a half from the Riverwalk, 2 miles from La Villita, and 2 1/2 miles from the Alamo. But it's close to the King Charles historic district, and the Pioneer Flour Mill. We generally walked into town at the beginning of each day, and cabbed back afterward. Or, if you're feeling like you'd like to get some good exercise and see more of San Antonio, you can rent bikes downtown for $10/day and easily bike to and from the hotel (it's about 6 minutes by bike).
