The Emily Morgan San Antonio - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel

the EM is a lovely hotel with great corner rooms and city views. the staff is mostly* friendly and accommodating. it is comparable in quality to similarly priced nearby historic menger and gunter hotels. the remodel is not perfect, but keep in mind the rate is below 200 dollars/night. the EM has made great use of the smaller rooms and used quality linens […] and fixtures. the fit and feel exceeded my expectations based on reviews i read here. *my nonrefundable booking started with a hiccup. due to family emergency, i was not able to check-in on my first reserved night, and it took a bit of discussion with the EM and this website to ensure that i would not lose the room and could check-in on day 2. to be clear, i was not asking for a refund, as i understood the terms of my booking. this should not have needed 2 ten-minute phone convo's. once that was resolved, the stay was quite enjoyable. we valet parked at comparable rate to surrounding hotels, and on foot we enjoyed fiesta, king william fair, and the river walk. the hotel is pet friendly. my booking had no pet fees, which was remarkable. the pool and spa area was clean, stocked with towels, and offered hours we could still enjoy after a late dinner. check-out and valet were fast friendly and smooth. I loved the location and the front staff was wonderful, room super clean and nicely appointed. I don't know if I will stay here again, because it got really weird in our room at night. Beautiful Hotel. Great Location too... walking distance to the Riverwalk & Alamo. There are unexpected fees though. Either I didn't see it in the fine print, or it wasn't there, but they charged me $30/night for parking, and they even tried to charge me for internet access. I guess it's not included in a standard room rate, but fortunately the internet […] was part of my room deal from Hotels.com, so they couldn't force me to pay for it. Overall, our stay was pleasurable. Only two things that weren't up to par. First, when I booked on line the room, I asked for two double beds. When we wen"t up to our first room, it was a single bed. So I called down to the lobby and they corrected it right away. The only bad thing on the stay, was the cost of parking. Very high priced.

The hotel and room was great. The only things I did not like was the towels were scratchy and no toilet paper in the bathroom. They did the neat nip tuck, but left two used rolls and no replacements.

This Hotel is in a good location, right next to the Alamo, a block away from the river walk and the indoor mall. The hotel resteaurant can get pricey, but its a good thing that there are so many places to eat down on the river walk and the at the mall. They stuck us in a room that […] was next to the elevator and ice machine, which was loud, and also the teenagers constantly going up and down the hall all night. we complained, so they put us in another room, so it worked out for the best. THE POWER WENT OUT the last night we were there and was out for 3 hours. the hotel doesnt even have emergency lighting in the hall ways so you can see where your going, which was very dangerous. Had a great stay at the Yellow Rose. Right across the street from the Alamo, it's centrally located without being too loud/busy. Beautiful architecture, huge room on the 12th floor [get the 2 beds] and loved the heated outdoor pool open til 10pm. We had a great burger in the restaurant. Located a few streets away to riverwalk and convention center. […] I also enjoyed the foodie tour - available from a place 2 doors down. Although San Antonio was not what I expected it to be, we had a pleasant stay at the Emily Morgan. It is clearly a historic landmark of the tourist town and was convienent to all things 'touristy'. Luckily, there was a 'coaches' convention in town (not that I like coaches) but i feel if they were not around San Antonio would have been no mans land this […] early January. Other than the Alamo (15min attraction at most) and the Riverwalk (hit or miss chain like restaurants and bars) there wasn't much going on. The hotel staff were all very friendly and accomadating. Some downsides to the hotel were 1) different floors have different vending machines (evens with beverages, odds with snacks), 2) ice machine not located on all floors, 3) some stains in hotel room i.e on chairs, and 4) a game we began to play called 'how much will they decide to charge us for a cup of coffee today (each day it was more or less which was annoying). My boyfriend and I stayed at the Emily Morgan for New Years Eve and New Years Day 2011. The hotel was very cool looking on the outside and a very old feel on the inside. We found the staff friendly. Our room was large and roomy. It was also the very closest hotel to the Alamo. Our only issues were we went to use the hot-tub which was functional and […] open, but dirty and not very hot. It was outside and with the weather getting cooler we were really looking forward to it. Also we had the loudest family in the world next door to us the 2nd night! Possibly would be great not to book such a large party beside a couple. But rooms may have been all booked. The pipes in our bathroom had tape around them. Possibly there were old and leaking. We did have a nice breakfast in the morning of the 3rd but they did not seem to have enough wait staff on. We were asked if we would like to update our room free of change upon arrival and we did no that. The only lesson learned though, was never take a room close to the elevator! The hotel was having a New Years Eve party which was booked upon our arrival. We were not allowed on the roof to watch the fireworks, only the guests that paid for the dinner and party. Read more

Great idea to stay here, pay for valet and don't worry about your car the entire trip. Location is so close to everything, with 2 young children we walked everywhere with no problem and I knew my car was safe. The beds were uncomfortable and the rooms were a little small, but you can't beat the location.

Almost everything about the room was fantastic. When we checked our sheets, there was a bug underneath my boyfriends pillow. Also, the AC kept making a popping noise everytime it turned on which always made me wake up when I was sleeping.

Read blogs before booking. Very helpful; knew what to expect.. Hotel showing its age but got great deal on Exec King Suite so it made up for condition. Excellent location; superb service! But would NOT recommend hotel restuarant. Food mediocre and overpriced. Lastly, expect to pay over a lot for valet parking. Self parking is available but dubious.

We loved the room layout, and the breathtaking view of the downtown San Antonio skyline was beautifully framed by the almost wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows. Lavish wall-to-wall drapes could be closed for privacy. BUT the spa bathtub/shower combo left a lot to be desired. It was old, large, and the jets were inset in such a way that it would […] be impossible to clean them satisfactorily. In fact, there were stains all around the jets and obvious cracks in the tub had been crudely repaired. (My wife refused to use the tub/shower and resorted to a "sponge bath".) I would have insisted on swithching rooms, but we checked in very late after the fabulous UIL State High School Marching Band Competition. (I recommend the competition--held annually-- the first Monday/Tuesday of November at the Alamo Dome. Just remember next year, to VOTE EARLY so you can attend! By the way, we will stay at Emily Morgan again, but we will inspect the bathroom FIRST, before settling for the room. Read more

Hotel was in a great location and the service was great! The fridge in the room was not stocked with anything which was annoying! Bed was wonderful but the shower pressure was a bit soft for me! Valet was a bit steep but we knew going in! Overall we had a good experience.

I've stayed at the Emily Morgan multiple times and always go back, but this past stay may have me check out other options (there are so many) in downtown San Antonio. There were just a few things that were off. My thermostat did not seem to work completely (room was freezing although temp was not low), didn't have a blanket (but housekeeping brought […] one). My sink was not completely clean. My hairdryer was old and died mid drying on 2nd day. There were never enough bell staff, so my car would be present when I called it in, but no one was around (one time for more than 5 mins), so I had to wait for keys. There were accountrements for the coffee machine in the room, but no coffee maker. I reported it the first day and housekeeping brought a fresh pot of coffee and fresh half and half immediately -- even better. No coffee pot showed up that day, and the next day I had to quibble with the front desk staff about getting coffee in the morning. BUT the hotel is a great location and, frankly, I'm used to staying there. I'm going to try another hotel recommended by other parents (my daughter is at Trinity in SA) next time, but I'll probably return to the Emily, at least intermittently.
