"Mom in Hipsterville"
I brought my elderly mother to the stylish, chic Andaz for a night before a move, and I was struck by how very attentive, considerate and kind everyone was. Loved the lounge-style check in, you sit on a couch and they bring an ipad over and do it all SEATED, brought us some cold sparkling water... We required a LOT of extra attention, and the kindness, […] intelligence and efficiency of the young staff was unexpected--both in the hotel and in the fantastic bar/restaurant. Everything went like clockwork--the room service came exactly at the ordered time, the second chair we requested came within five minutes, the wakeup call (non-automated) was on time, the valet was prompt getting my car out of the garage. Pricey parking $30-some, but in out, so worth it. Free wifi--the minibar was complimentary which I never heard of--all but the alcohol of course. They have their own tech people a phone call away. The room was very modern and spare, but still had a luxurious feel==great desk if I'd needed to work. It wasn't cheap but got a good deal on it and put her in a great mood (me too!). One doesn't normally stay in the hotels in one's own city, and this was new to me, but I would certainly recommend it--you'll have to cab it or drive to the clubs, or take the bus! Hyatt properties have been undergoing these disturbances for 2 years now and I was caught in the middle of one last week-it has to do with some of the workers using […] their free time to voice frustration over the unfair nature of the company's uniform contracts which aren't acceptable by every employee. This new Hyatt concept works: hip, casual, diverse clientele, great service, bar, restaurant; and, a rock sound track that plays over a great sound system in the public areas. The parking is advertised as $28 per day as of today. I believe when I first booked the hotel it was $18 per day. When I arrived I was told it was $32 per day which is outrageous. This hotel was fantastic! From the moment you arrive, you feel like a celebrity. The valet team is outstanding, and they take the pressure of parking in LA away by keeping your vehicle secured, and retrieving it at anytime of the day in a vet timely manner. We never waited more then 3 minutes for our car. They were even kind enough to call my room to […] inform me that there was suspicious dent on my rental car that hadn't been there the day before. I had been hit by another car earlier in the day while out and they wanted to make sure I was aware and even offered to call the police for me if I wanted to file a report. The laid back and hip lobby is a plus. and the conceirge and welcome team are all wonderful, informative and accommodating. The food in the restaurant is fantasic for any meal and the staff there too is great! Everything is high quality at this hotel, my friends and I kept pinching ourselves wondering how we were lucky enough to book this hotel! They even have a great gym with plenty of clean towels an strawberry infused water to enjoy. Possibly the best part is the free snacks, soda and juices in your room daily! This is the old Continental Hyatt House (aka the Riot House of Led Zepplin fame). Although it's been remodeled and modernized, it's still in a great location, right down the street from the Whiskey and the Roxy. It's a super cool hotel with really friendly staff.
