Pockets of nature thrive in South Fort Lauderdale. The Anne Kolb Nature Center in West Lake Park is a haven for fish, reptiles, and birds. Nice rooms, loved the beach front view. Just cross the walkway and you are on the beach. Lots of good food and drinks close, so no need to drive!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I'd go again."
I liked the hotel and it's location. However the hotel needs some improvement, e.g., room could use some shelves sinces there was no bureau in the room. The bathroom had no shelves and no table to put things on. I had to use the toilet with the cover down, and the back of the toilet. The shelf over the sink was not even and didn't hold much. The sink […] in the bathroom filled up with water and drained very slow. The toilet didn't flush unless you held the handle until the toilet flushed completely. However we were comfortable in the room and I would stay their again. Housekeeping was very good and the staff at the desk very polite and friendly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location!"
Hotel Sheldon is great beachside location on the broadwalk. It's still under construction though, so some noise during the day is inevitable. A great place for the price, clean rooms, and a beautiful view of the ocean and Hollywood Beach.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is in a great location and is right on the beach. The hotel is very outdated and is currently under renovations which have been going on for over a year. The floors of the rooms are very dirty and look like they have never been cleaned. The staff is friendly. As long as you don't expect luxury then its a ok place.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Looking forward to post- renovation"
Not a bad overall experience. The hotel could use a little bit more "sprucing up". You know broken tiles all over the floor , wires hanging all over... These little things could be addressed even during Reno ...however overall great location, staff is friendly and helpfull. Not a bad place to check in for a nice getaway on Hollywood Beach.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel Sheldon close to everything"
The hotel was going through a remodel and so was the area outside the hotel. That took a little away with the construction starting at 8am. The rooms were clean sfaff was accomidating to any requests. Walk out the front of the hotel and your on the boardwalk with the a beatiful beach. They give you chairs & towels. Can walk to shops, resturants, or […] to trolley for $1.00 to downtown. I would stay there again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for.."
This is a great location on Hollywood Beach but amenities are non-existent and customer service the same. Hotel is still under renovation with no completion date in sight. Among other things, this means you have to park about a block away and haul your stuff. But if you're looking for a cheap place on the beach and don't plan on spending a lot of time […] in the room then this is the place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"August 2011 Visit to the Sheldon"
Before booking I read several reviews all bashing this hotel. I was about to skip on to the next hotel when I read a post from a guy who shared a different twist and I am glad I did. I booked my room. The hotel is under mad construction but that to be expected during a renovation. It's doesn't have all the frills and there are no telephones in the room, […] but who cares when you have the view that I had. For the most part I only saw three people during my stay and they all worked there. I was a little creeped out about being the only guest in the entire hotel. Luckily 5 other people checked in later. The room and bathroom were super clean. They give you plenty of towels not to mention towels and an umbrella for the beach. Did I mention that the beach was about 10 steps away. I spent a very relaxing night at the Sheldon and can not wait to return. I don't care if the renovations are still going on. All I needed was a fridge, a microwave and cable and that's is what I happily found in my room. There is an outdoor stage right next door and you can listen to the music from your window or walk over. One thing you should watch out for is the "late check out". When I asked about it the guy (really nice) told me it would be an extra $10 to check out at 3pm instead of 11am. When I went to pay the young lady with blond hair (these are the only tow that work there) told me it was $10 every hour over the reular check out time. I don't like surprises but I slept really well and I enjoyed my time on the beach so whatever. It might have been written somewher and I missed it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel Sheldon Hollywood Florida....Wonderful!"
Despite the clearly understood renovations postings and info made available to me at the time of booking, the location of this hotel and a great price had me take my chances. And boy did it pay off! Right in the middle of the busy season of Spring Break March 2011, I checked into a renovated and clean third floor room with a window facing right onto […] the beach. Spectacular. Forget past reviews regarding dingy bathrooms and unfinished rooms; it appeared to me all the rooms are either at or near completion. Still construction on weekdays, but it was no bother. No elevator yet, but it was all fine by me. Free wireless was only available in the lobby area. So big deal, I went to the lobby when I needed internet access. I was not here on business. Wonderful staff at the front desk helped me with a few extra things I needed. They are even mailing me back a jacket I mistakenly left in the room after check out. All the nearby restaurants and bars on the "broadwalk" were very nice, hip, and happening. This ain't South Beach, but very casual with a very comfortable element. Hotel Sheldon...not a four star high rise hotel if that is what you prefer, but highly recommended for good service, cleanliness, and great location! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just OK"
For the money it was just OK. Great location, but rude staff. Hotel is under a re-model but rooms are clean and roomy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Hotel Sheldon - Hollywood beach"
The hotel is a work in progress; they are working on the physical structure making some things inconvenient. The hotel staff, except for one, was not helpful, and were not interested in you as a guest. Hopefully as they continue the construction, they plan on refurbishing the rooms, I felt like I was in a motel from the 50's. The price was definitely, […] an advantage, but you do get what you pay for. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Location, location, location!"
There is outstanding potential for this older hotel to excell as a charmer! But for now, the degree of consturction makes it pretty challenging. You can imagine the art deco beauty, but.... Given that the lobby was like a war zone due to construction, the staff did a decent job. While we had to wait for our room, we were given beach chairs, umbrellas […] and towels to step out the door and enjoy the beach and Broadwalk. Terrific! Our room was adequate, but no more. Again, even the halls were construction zones. The entrance is on the "back" (non beach side) of the hotel and the entire place is lacking signage. More chairs on the back door deck or in the lobby space would help, while waiting around. We had to ask for a luggage rack and, with 3 in the room, it was crowded. It would help if there were hairdryers provided, too. The bathroom definetey awaits a reno. View is great. Wish there was an outdoor space (balcony or patio) to sit out and watch the world go by. I would recommend it due to the location and price, but there is currently no degree of luxury. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
