Life is a never-ending summer in LA’s Beach Cities. Redondo Beach and surfing are forever intertwined. On weekends, many Angelinos head to Santa Monica to relax in the ocean and hang out at the Third Street Promenade. The Getty Center, an art-world powerhouse, is nestled in the nearby hills north of Brentwood. Santa Monica’s neighbor, Malibu, is home to The Getty Villa and its antiquities.see all hotels in Santa Monica
"Nothing to write home about."
Small room. Noisy. If you're lucky enough to get one of the few parking spots they charge you $36 to park there overnight.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, but that's the only positive"
Hotel California is located very close to the beach, but that's the only thing that recommends it. The rooms weren't particularly clean (the bed linens looked fine, but there was a hair wound into one of the bath towels), there was no air conditioning (and no safe way to leave the windows open in the first floor rooms), and I'm hoping the decor was […] ironic (framed posters for "Escape from LA" and "City of Angels"). The staff wasn't super attentive, and the free breakfast was, well, free. It's not a hole, but I wouldn't go back. It's not a great hotel for a business stay, with a couch wedged into the room rather than a desk and the slowest wifi I've ever seen in a hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location, but................"
The location was perfect, the room was nothing like it looked like in the photos. We booked a king room which under the hotel description gave us a bed with a surfboard headboard (which we had) and a skylit jacuzzi. We had a shower that you could hardly fit in that had a 4 inch round circle of black mold on the roof, mold on the shower curtain and all […] of the shower floors and walls. "Only for hardcore surfers!"
Too close to the pier so never really felt safe rooms were small and you could hear everything going on in upstairs and next door rooms. There was sand in the bed even though we didn't go to the beach.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Spare yourself the curiosity"
My curiosity got the best of me so I had to try it out. The hardwood floors are nice for aesthetics, but between the hard floors and the paper-thin walls, you can hear every movement and conversation from surrounding rooms. The old doors make the building shake when closing. Got about 1 hour of sleep due to alll the noise. Spend the extra money and […] stay next door at Loews. Also, it is a disgrace to The Eagles that this hotel tries to piggyback on the famous song which does NOT reference this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Only a few parking spots. Very overpriced for what it is. Tiny dingy bathroom. No heater.Genuine Expedia guest review
"smells horrible inside rooms"
smells like they are trying to cover up a crime scene with gallons of ammonia. The bathroom is in poor shape with suspicious holes all over the place for critters to crawl in and out of. The parking situation is a nightmare and you have to pay $25 per car to park in their crapy lot or find parking on the street. The only redeeming quality is that it […] is right next to the Santa Monica Pier. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Hotel California - Santa Monica"
For such a small hotel, t was dissapointed that it took the more than one and a half hours past the normal checck-in time to have the room ready. The "junior suite" we rented was no bigger than a typical motel room, and although it had two queen beds it was very cramped in the room with only room enough for 1 chair, and even though it appeared to have […] been repainted sometime recently it doesn't look like the place has had a complete remodel (ever). For example, out of all of the electrical outlets in the room, only a few of them have been upgraded from the "2-prong" style that have not been used for more than 25 years, and the 2-prong style that remained have been painted over (into the plug holes). The houskeeping staff also seemed to have an inability to count as I had to go to the front desk (daily) and ask for towels and/or washcloths (4 people cannot make do with 3 towels & 1 washcloth. Once it was 2-T's & 2-WC's) The "available" parking was not what we were told either. There was not enough spaces for the amount of rooms they have, and had to (on several occasions) ask the manager to have EMPLYOEES cars moved from behind mine so we could get out of our "assigned" (@ $25/day) space. I also witnessed other guests checking in being told to park their cars either on the street or in a parking garage a couple of blocks away. To put it bluntly, this place is "ALL SHOW AND NO GO!". For (literally) a few dollars more we could have stayed in the LOWES hotel next door. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Happy location Unhappy sleep"
Great Location but run down- beds and linens leave alot to be desired. If they got decent bedding and wireless connections that actually worked half the time I'd consider staying- otherwise over priced and under delivered.Genuine Expedia guest review
restroom is too small. The water for shower is sucks. We can't control how hot it is. Other things are very nice.
