We never spend much time in our hotel on any vacation, so I have a hard time spending a lot of money on a room. I usually have an expectation of being disappointed with something. Not the case here!! When I made my reservations, I was excited that it was close to the Gaslamp District, even if it was a noisy hotel. On the Friday that we were supposed to check in, I called the hotel in the morning to ask if we could check in early. I was told, "No, check-in is at 3:00pm." I was told they would not make an exception. We arrived at 1:00pm and I asked […] for an early check-in again. I was told the same thing. I explained that my bf recently hurt his back and it was hurting from the 2 hour car ride. The front desk woman said that she did not have a list of available rooms and to come back. We finally checked-in at 2:30pm. I have never been told that I could not check-in early. Our room was so small that I called the front desk thinking that they gave me a double bed, but they assured me that it was a Deluxe Queen. The only sink in the room is at the tiny kitchenette. Our room faced the street and it was noisy. The area has a lot of homeless people and there is no soundproofing. The walkways are very small and you have to maneuver around cleaning carts (which housekeeping does not offer to move). Their elevator does not seem up to code - the certificate is from 2010 and a notice is posted from January 2012 saying that a new certificate is being processed. It is extremely slow to go up one floor. The courtyard is charming and the hotel is clean at least; however, the hotel service was very unaccommodating and the rooms are much smaller than advertised. We happenned to get a room on the 4th floor on the street side. It was somewhat noisy from the passing cars and airplanes on final approach to the San Diego airport. However after about 11 pm everything settled. Lots of channels on satellite TV. Reception desk personnel very nice and accommodating. The biggest plus for this hotel is it's location. It is close to downtown, Balboa Park, the airport, the Gaslight Quarter, and major highways. Our room was quite small, but with a comfortable double bed. There was a microwave , a refrigerator, and a kitchen sink however, the kitchen sink is the only sink in the room. The hotel staff was extremely friendly. The bed was so comfortable, as soon as we crawled in to it we passed out. The location was perfect, we would park the car and were within walking distance of a mall, bars, restaurants. Everything was so close to us. Perfect location, awesome staff..overall a great week!

First of all they don't have a parking lot. You have to look for a space out on the streets or use a paid parking lot across the street. The rooms are very small it reminded me of being on a cruse ship. Every thing else was fine. Room was clean and had everything it pictured. Don't think I'll be returning due to parking and room size.

The room was very small!!! There was no cream cheese for the thousands of bagels during the continental breakfast hours! Over all this hotel was good for a two night stay. I would stay here again, it was clean and the staff was very pleasant.

This place was an apartment building converted to hotel. If you are cool with just the basics this is fine. Definitely not something to brag about, but gets the job done. Additionally the planes fly directly overhead. All in all I was satisfied with my visit for just the one time, but would try something different during my next visit to San Diego.

Paper thin walls so if your neighbor wakes up at 6 so do you. No curtains on the windows so sun wakes you up bright and early no sleeping in. Hotel staff not pleasant at all lady at desk made me feel like I was a hassle because she had to stop playing on her phone and check me into the hotel. Booking this room for the weekend in gaslamp was awesome. Very small room but for a very small price. Me and my bf stayed for our anniversary Awww! :) there was even a mini fridge and microwave. The restroom had a brand new step-in shower with two seats. Nice toilet, the only concern was the bed. It might be a little uncomfortable if u have a bad back. […] We got a full size bed and when u moved around on it, u could hear/semi-feel the springs. But its okay cuz we're young and went the economical route. $5 cab ride to gaslamp and it was perfect for us. Would stay there again if we got the same great price!!! It's a nice hotel alright. And not bad to look at. But when you're ready to call it a night, whatever you do, don't stay in room 202. For the permanent residents in room 203 as LOUD AS HELL! The walls must be made out of paper. And old, holey paper at that, for you can hear the neighbors talk. Yu better hope they don't watch TV, becasue it's gonna be […] a looooong night.
